My absolute favorite (pretty obviously) is the Deino line, because the dex entries for the three paint an interesting story: First, you have Deino, whose dex entries are basically just talking about it being blind and always hungry. Then there’s Zweilous, whose B2W2 dex reads: “The two heads do not get along. Whichever head eats more than the other gets to be the leader.” Aka, in its second stage, this random extra personality basically appeared out of nowhere and is now competing with the old personality for food and leadership. It’s even crazier when you get to Hydreigon. According to the dex entry from White: “The heads on their arms do not have brains. They use all three heads to consume and destroy everything.” This implies that only one of the heads evolves into Hydreigon, and the other either disappears or becomes a puppet arm. Further, this implies that a Deino could evolve, gain a second personality, lose to that personality, and end up disappearing because the other personality got to evolve. Which is pretty damn dark if you ask me.
Stonjourner's is based on Stonehenge. The monument is believed to be created as a pagan tribute to the summer solstice - the sun rises and sets in line with the stones. So every June 21st people gather around for the sun rise and set (it's also the only time you can touch the stones for pagan rituals).
During the first two-three gens I believe the Pokemon world was supposed to be our Earth, but with Pokemon being discovered alongside normal animals. The first gen's region is named the same as the real region of Kantō, Japan.
The bugs that Horsea shoot down are of the technical kind. This is how most of the post-Gen 1 games have less in-yo-face bugs and glitches, and why Missingno. are now extinct: the Horsea line is the aquatic division of the ZDS (Zygarde Defensce System).
Talking about real-world places existing in the pokemon world: in the first season of the anime, Las Vegas is said to exist, which implies a whole host of stuff (since Vegas is the city it is today directly because of the nuclear tests done there)
Bewear's pokedex is entry is a reference to what actual red pandas in real life do be intimidating to scare things away. Bewear do the same thing. Red pandas stand on 2 legs and raise their arms in the air to be intimidating. Only that red pandas are to cute be intimidating while Bewear is 6ft and will end you.
the drapion hippowdon thing is especially cool to me bc hippos are bar none the apex predator anywhere they're found. no one picks a fight with a hippo, the fact that a hippo is the only thing drapion wont fight draws cool parallels to real life
I like how the pokedex references the anime e.g. dragonite in one of its paldean pokedex references the island ash & goh visited & pokedex covers like meowth approaching pikachu 😂
Gorebyss in Sapphire has to be one of my favorites! I still remember its entry word for word just to remind myself how hardcore this swimming mosquito is! “Although Gorebyss is the very picture of elegance and beauty while swimming, it is also cruel. When it spots prey, this Pokemon inserts its thin mouth into the prey’s body and drains the prey of its body fluids.”
I always loved how Papa talks in his videos. At certain points while talking and explaining, he slows down the words and sounds unsure🤣🤣 it's so comical
The Appletun one is kind of funny. I could see Lechonk trying to eat it. I know one of Appletun's Gen 8 dex entries says kids used to eat parts of its back. Also Jigglypuff's CDs being near the bedding section LOL. Also people buying their CDs isn't that weird...some people use music to help them fall asleep.
**EDITED TO INCLUDE THE DEX ENTRY** Blue Flower Florges' Scarlet entry takes the cake for me. "Though usually compassionate, Florges will hunt down anyone who vandalizes its flower garden, showing no mercy even if they beg for their lives." That is WILD 🤣😅
Cacturn is like a hyena then! A scavenger/opportunist. it can't hunt that well so it waits until it's prey can't move so the hunt is easier Fitting for a dark type and incredibly ominous
Only stripped hyenas are primarily scavengers, spotted hyenas kill most the things they eat and normally have to worry about said kills getting stolen from them by lions due to being more successful hunters then them… and all predators are opportunists.
Ive never liked the nitpicking about the speed stat vs dex descripions. Theres a difference between movement speed and combat speed. Someone could run really fast but be slow to attack or dodge an attack.
I love dex entries. Especially because every gen there are changes made, which allows for all types of lore and headcanons! Even the contradicting entries give a bit of insight in the thought process of the writers. What I also like is how some of those murderous pokemon are also just pokemon that people in the game own/can own. Which seems unwise. But sure, let me have a horde of murderbunnies in my backyard!
Pokedex entries videos are such easy listening for pokemon content because almost all if them are unhinged or interesting in some way that makes for fun discussion.
Doduo probably runs faster because it's the pre evo. It would be much more vulnerable to predators who want some chicken dinner so getting out of dodge as fast as possible is probably what's kept it alive long enough to become a creature that can fight back
Yeah, but it would be cool if you could actually see them doing the mentioned things in the overworld instead of mostly just being there and nothing else, making the dex entries kind of just seem kind of pointless, I suppose, especially if it wasn't for the anime and whatnot
I think the explanation for the real world refernces was just in the earlier years Pokemon were written to give a more objective comparison to things for concept and the degree of how much fantasy Pokemon was, wasnt established yet. As of they were like just super powered animals or real world legends (who so many prey on children or hunt for prey at all.) They did that a lot in Gen 1, and its also stated in the Mewtwo Strikes back movie too that Mew was found in "South America." I think old Gen 1 Pokemon cards had real world references as well similarly. Old guidebooks said that Wheezing's smell was compared to be worse than Skunks and Rotten Eggs (where would those come from in-universe? Its just easier to imagine those things to compared to using another abstract Pokemon.)
Did you know Venonat was a vicious killer ever since Gen 1, and that Venomoth is the ONLY moth Pokémon that has been stated to be an actively vicious predator (the other moth Pokémon are herbivores that are either really protective or unintentionally harmful)?
Aye I was thinking the same thing like is it that one Jigglypuff from the anime that gets paid or do they divide it among however many jigglypuff participated in making it or is someone just taking all the money while the Jigglypuff do the work 😂
The Doduo and Dodrio entry makes sense. Just because you evolve doesn't mean everything gets improved. Think about it like getting older. Most people as they get older aren't as fast as they were when they were younger. Evolution can have a lot of positives but it still has it's negatives.
So, if Magcargo got the "Dry Skin" ability, it would be totally OP. and I think it should get it. Dry Skin would make it IMMUNE to water and restore it's HP. but then it would get a "weakness" to fire, thing is it's typing makes it very resistant to Fire.
in the OG anime they're canonically in a country called japan, whether they just took the name or it's the real japan i have no idea, so i don't doubt that south america could exist as well

A Pokémon's stats are random and arbitrary and have nothing to do with their PokéDex entries.

"Birds arent even real anyway." That just sends me.
It's true. Google it. There is a movement to expose the truth! There are a few youtube videos that explain it fully.

So every June 21st people gather around for the sun rise and set (it's also the only time you can touch the stones for pagan rituals).
The diary entries in Cinnebar Mansion specifically mention Mew being found in Guyana, which is a country in South America.
Also the Indian elephants

Mew and Xatu’s Pokédex entires confirm a South American region. Maybe they’ll change the Pokédex with the region’s name in the future.
“Freedom units,” “Birds don’t even exist anyway,” and I’m only 96 seconds in. Bro, you are killing it today!

Hippoes are herbivores.

Note to self:
Never take Turtonator to Taco Bell
Turtonator brought a whole new meaning to explosive diarrhea
Maybe that’s how fast Dodrio likes to run normally when it moves around looking for food, while 60 mph is Doduo's maximum speed?
I always loved how Papa talks in his videos. At certain points while talking and explaining, he slows down the words and sounds unsure🤣🤣 it's so comical
Its cool how even though there's not an obscene amount of dex entries new and obscure facts always get discovered even nowadays
For Mew’s pokedex entry does Far Away Island = South America?🤔

Famous example Swampert in Emerald states that it can swim as fast as a jet ski but it is completely slow in battle
If Rellor makes a ball of Turtonator poop, it can use it for self defense.
Flittle revenge involves spawning in every inch of the map and being as annoying and inconvenient as possible

Does Xatu even see the present? Can it only hear and feel it?
I was just thinking about how annoying it would be to have to either live in constant delay or vision you cannot interact with. What a nightmare.
Did you know Venonat was a vicious killer ever since Gen 1, and that Venomoth is the ONLY moth Pokémon that has been stated to be an actively vicious predator (the other moth Pokémon are herbivores that are either really protective or unintentionally harmful)?
They need to scientist at Game Freak to ensure no entires make no sense, break laws of reality, and/or create paradoxes.
You can see Metagross fly (more like levitate) in the movie Destiny Deoxys.
It also sort of levitates and attacks in the older 3d Pokémon games like colosseum
07:44 I believe that’s a reference to the Stone Henge!
Flittle’s revenge is Speed Boost + Calm Mind + Stored Power.

Best Pokemon yt W
I must now nickname any cufant or copperajah I catch "Copper Jaw"
I don’t blame Drapion. If Hippowdon is anything like real life hippos, they’re nature’s killing machines
I’m so baffled by Pokédex entries in general. Why would they make them so god damn weird/oddly specific and cause so much lore questions?
It’s more fun that way :D
Is jiggle puff Elvis Presley ? 😂
Well, Dodrio has an additional head making it heavier. Thus it doesn't reach the same speed anymore.
it has a higher speed and that doesnt make much sense
I always saw flittle as a tissue box
Xatu is likely based on something from Aztec culture so it could be why they said its from South America in early games.
You had a rather odd cadence in this video, kind of stop and start. It reminded me of the old Captain Kirk memes.
1:27 ill have you know that cacturne is one of my favorite pokemon >:( (offended)
Dude, did you call Copperajah Copper Jaw!?
I'm starting to think that the speed stat has absolutely nothing to do with speed
