My God, it has been 10 years?!? I still remember like it was yesterday... album of the year was being given out. Alicia Keys finished up saying the nominees, including Taylor Swift's Red. A reaction camera was fixed on each of the artists nominated. As soon as Keys said "Rrrr" Swift's crew started to stand, then the three best words of the night came out of Alicia's mouth: "Rrrrandom Access Memories!" The look of disappointment on Swift's producers is something I will always remember and cherish. Those old f**ks' became so salty and seem to care about the winner of the Grammy. The only person who was applauding was Taylor. It was glorious.

In their later years, you can see how much they tried (and succeeded) to push new and interesting sounds in the EDM and house space. I remember there being like a limited podcast series coming up to the release of RAM. There was one where Giorgio Moroder talked about walking into the studio to record his lines for the song, it was just him and the recording engineer and he saw three microphones. One was from the 70s one was from the 80s and one was a modern microphone. He asked why he was recording the different parts of the song into different microphones and the recording engineer said that that's what Daft Punk wanted. Giorgio asked if anyone would notice and the recording engineer said "the listener probably won't but they (Daft Punk) will." I might be misremembering this but it's something that's stuck with me about the album.

My dad is a hobbyist musician and composer. Pretty good one at that. He likes old school jazz, 70s pop, some Latin music, and very little else. He gets pretty gate-keepy and serious about things, and that makes it hard to connect with him on a musical level sometimes. (I typically enjoy the stuff that he likes, but he hardly ever steps out of his comfort zone when it comes to music) Once, I was explaining to him the many reasons why Daft Punk is my favorite artist of all time. He had his speakers set up, and so I played Touch while we quietly listened together. He cried, and cried softly. It was one of the most beautiful and tender moments that I’ve ever experienced with my dad, and I’m so grateful for it. It felt as if in that moment that he understood me a little better, though that song. I’ll never forget it.

We both decided to hit play on it at the same time and text each other about it. He was an avid fan, I was nearly brand new to DP and this kind of music in general. Just bought this on vinyl I would call it a masterpiece of our time, I’m glad Daft Punk didn’t even try to go further and out do themselves with another album respectively. It’s incredible how many people actually participated on the making of the album shown in the liner notes

Without knowing this was coming up on ten years, I had just bought this on vinyl during the weekend and it was a very exciting and nostalgic listen for me. The time period in my life was filled with a lot of teen angst, it was my junior year of high school and things were… weird. As they are for any teenager. The year prior I was getting into Daft Punk, listening to everything they had to offer. And when this dropped, I was floored. It had swept me off my feet. It was on repeat for the next few months, and even a lot of the songs followed me into my adulthood. I was devastated to hear they broke up, but I have some solace knowing they left us with such an amazing piece of art. And you’ve summed up a lot of my feelings about the album here. Thanks for taking a look back! Awesome perspective.

Daft Punk had pretty much a flawless career. Banger album after banger album. They put their entire soul into their really well produced and fun songs
They might be gone but they have all out respect

This was the first album I had ever bought. I bought it digitally on Play music using my dad's credit card. The singles - Get Lucky, Lose Yourself.. and Instant Crush were enough to get me hooked. I cherished EVERY SINGLE track. I remember not being as enamoured with the ballads such as Within or Beyond but I soon grew to love them and their places on the album.
I think this album is crafted to perfection. Each production choice, from the way the acoustic drums are processed to the insane effects on the synthesisers, is immaculately executed to create a unique and holistic sound that never wears itself out throughout the album.
I also love the diversity of tracks and how Daft Punk manages to keep the same DNA within each one. Tracks as different as "Fragments of Time" and "Contact" both sound completely different in style and structure but manage to work harmoniously together on this record.
It's a love letter to the past, present and future of music while being distinctly Daft Punk. This is not only my favourite album, but in my opinion, the greatest album I have ever heard.

RAM was pretty much the epic feeling you get from 70s prog recods being brought to disco, synth-pop and electro, and it absolutely slaps.
It's pretty funny remembering how butt-hurt some people were about it not being a house album considering how much of a trend disco and synth-pop has recently become, people thought it was just a trow back but they were actually ahead of the game

I was always comforted knowing that I had that disk in the car. It represents a certain timelessness to music despite changing technology. It even felt poetic to listen to it on a dying medium (CD).

Album so good, songs so identifiable (as you said) that i now have the album script of fragments of time tattood on my right inner forearm. That song, and indeed the entire album encapsulates what I believe music to be. Creating memories and melodies that we can play back forever within our minds until we pass. Absolutely beatiful piece of artistry and a very fitting farewell. The perfect song is framed with silence...

The overly sterile production quality rubbed me the wrong way when I first listened, especially when compared to the digital rawness of their earlier stuff. But going back to it over these past 10 years, that “over production” almost serves to preserve this album and gives it a timeless quality. Pair that feeling, with the fact that this ended up being their final album. RAM is this perfect capstone to their entire discography. It’s an important album and an all-time classic imo.

Man 10 years. My feelings on daft punk have changed so much over those 10 years. I used to be a very casual listener, really only liking instant crush and get lucky of this record. but as the years have gone by and I've matured more in my tastes, I find myself going back to this album more and more. Starting actually from a video where giorgio by moroder was put to a clip of the regular show, I had to find out what song that was, and that's what lead my on my musical journey to what I feel confident in saying is my favorite album, not just by daft punk, but really of all time.
Random access memories was such an amazing album to end on and I'm glad daft punk got to end on such a high note. Not all artists do.

I remember hearing a review of RAM by an older musician, and it was so interesting to hear him pick apart the songs and talk about the accompanying artists different styles. Honestly I think the reason it sounds so clean was because of how many other people were involved in this and all of the real instrumentation they used instead of sticking to more synthetic beats like they typically did in their earlier albums. 10 Years later still amazing and one of my favorite albums of all time
