This was the first album I had ever bought. I bought it digitally on Play music using my dad's credit card. The singles - Get Lucky, Lose Yourself.. and Instant Crush were enough to get me hooked. I cherished EVERY SINGLE track. I remember not being as enamoured with the ballads such as Within or Beyond but I soon grew to love them and their places on the album.
I think this album is crafted to perfection. Each production choice, from the way the acoustic drums are processed to the insane effects on the synthesisers, is immaculately executed to create a unique and holistic sound that never wears itself out throughout the album.
I also love the diversity of tracks and how Daft Punk manages to keep the same DNA within each one. Tracks as different as "Fragments of Time" and "Contact" both sound completely different in style and structure but manage to work harmoniously together on this record.
It's a love letter to the past, present and future of music while being distinctly Daft Punk. This is not only my favourite album, but in my opinion, the greatest album I have ever heard.

Without knowing this was coming up on ten years, I had just bought this on vinyl during the weekend and it was a very exciting and nostalgic listen for me. The time period in my life was filled with a lot of teen angst, it was my junior year of high school and things were… weird. As they are for any teenager. The year prior I was getting into Daft Punk, listening to everything they had to offer. And when this dropped, I was floored. It had swept me off my feet. It was on repeat for the next few months, and even a lot of the songs followed me into my adulthood. I was devastated to hear they broke up, but I have some solace knowing they left us with such an amazing piece of art. And you’ve summed up a lot of my feelings about the album here. Thanks for taking a look back! Awesome perspective.

That song, and indeed the entire album encapsulates what I believe music to be. Creating memories and melodies that we can play back forever within our minds until we pass. Absolutely beatiful piece of artistry and a very fitting farewell. The perfect song is framed with silence...

It was strange how daft punk grew up with their reach to me when I was swimming in the pool of electronic music while I didn't really give any focus for them for most of the years.
I just thought that they didn't play out hard enough, even if the craft was like jewelers do with gem stones.
I never met them by the flows of musical rivers.
There is one dudde who basically had my ears for them for all those years.
As they were the easiest to listen while playing games.
Dp asks for me to give them time and thought and I couldn't handle that I would have to betray someone like that.
Still I really want to see someone take a stab and bring a bigger feast on the table of Valhalla, because that's how I would describe their works.
The one I had for my games... They are like fountain of youth, but it's just water. Their name is lapfoxtrax or halley labs, and I just love them.
I think tron goes D just because Tron is such a drag. Seriously having a movie, but only selling it because Daft Punk might have been there. :l
RAM was released during a change of period in my life, just like the drumless edition... It has special place, and not just a rank.
It's next to Gintama, and keeping up appearances. Sure all of these ascended productions have their faults, but I think I wouldn't have seen them without the cracks, because that's what is human. Imperfection, which is perfect.

    • @Jokervision744

I'm such a game nerd that I don't really have games to rank. Which is somewhat funny. Runescape is great, absolute beast, but not sure I would place it next to these giants.
I have to place Populous:the Beginning there, and Crash Bash.

What I am NOT fine with is the fact that we did not get a last Alive set mixing RAM. Alive 2007 was incredible and the mixes that came out of that set elevate all of their previous albums into something else entirely. All the songs came together perfectly.

A reaction camera was fixed on each of the artists nominated. As soon as Keys said "Rrrr" Swift's crew started to stand, then the three best words of the night came out of Alicia's mouth: "Rrrrandom Access Memories!" I remember there being like a limited podcast series coming up to the release of RAM. There was one where Giorgio Moroder talked about walking into the studio to record his lines for the song, it was just him and the recording engineer and he saw three microphones. One was from the 70s one was from the 80s and one was a modern microphone. He asked why he was recording the different parts of the song into different microphones and the recording engineer said that that's what Daft Punk wanted. Giorgio asked if anyone would notice and the recording engineer said "the listener probably won't but they (Daft Punk) will." I might be misremembering this but it's something that's stuck with me about the album.

The problem with albums as well-produced as this one is that they might sound a little thin if you’re not listening to them through hi-fi speakers or headphones. I didn’t realize what I had been missing in this album until I listened to it in a car with a high-end sound system. It transformed the album and brought it to life.

The year this album released I was 15, almost 16. My buddy let me download it off his Apple Music because he had pre-ordered it. We both decided to hit play on it at the same time and text each other about it. He was an avid fan, I was nearly brand new to DP and this kind of music in general. I'll never forget it, it was something special for me. It legitimately changed the way I perceived and enjoyed music from that moment on. It may sound hyperbolic, but I didn't listen to much music besides the popular radio hits occasionally. This album changed that for me and I'll forever have a special place for it in my heart.
