I remember there being like a limited podcast series coming up to the release of RAM. There was one where Giorgio Moroder talked about walking into the studio to record his lines for the song, it was just him and the recording engineer and he saw three microphones. One was from the 70s one was from the 80s and one was a modern microphone. He asked why he was recording the different parts of the song into different microphones and the recording engineer said that that's what Daft Punk wanted. Giorgio asked if anyone would notice and the recording engineer said "the listener probably won't but they (Daft Punk) will." My dad is a hobbyist musician and composer. Pretty good one at that. He likes old school jazz, 70s pop, some Latin music, and very little else. He gets pretty gate-keepy and serious about things, and that makes it hard to connect with him on a musical level sometimes. The problem with albums as well-produced as this one is that they might sound a little thin if you’re not listening to them through hi-fi speakers or headphones. I didn’t realize what I had been missing in this album until I listened to it in a car with a high-end sound system. It transformed the album and brought it to life.
Horizon, the bonus track included in the japanese version, is one of Daft Punk's best songs ever. So emotional. When they announced that the group was over, Horizon turned out to be the saddest and most beautiful outro of any musicians career.
"Giorgio by Moroder" is so beautiful. Moroder's storytelling not on beat with the melody and rhythm gives it life. The cork pop-chef's kiss. The drop-insane. A wonderful way to pay homage to the inspiration with contemporary production.
Get Lucky and Instant Crush are two of my favorite songs off the album, they still slap even 10 years later!!! Such a fantastic album and one of the best of the 2010s for sure.
The album helped me get through my parents' divorce. No piece of music has ever had an effect on me like RAM has, I'm eternally grateful to them because of it.
I regrettably only listened to bits and pieces of their work before they broke up. I liked them, but I was definitely a casual fan. But when I watched Epilogue, I immediately fell in love with the track they used at the end. That song, of course, was Touch from R.A.M. and it made me finally give the album a listen from start to finish. Not only would I call it my current favorite album, Touch is one of the most life-affirming pieces of music I have ever heard. I've legit bawled my eyes out listening to this song.
This album is real important to me as I became a huge daft punk fan right before the rollout of this album happened so you can imagine my joy as the teasers were released. Still love this album to this day.
That marketing campaign was genius. I mean just a new Daft Punk album would be enough to generate traction, but the promotional stuff really made it all the more special
Get Lucky was one of those radio hits that you couldn't get away from but you would *still* let play out, no matter how many times you heard it. I swear only Daft Punk had that power
Sometimes I imagine how Get Lucky and Lose Yourself would’ve sounded with George Michael instead of Pharrell. I feel like that would’ve been a perfect match.
This was a coming-of-age album that defined a new stage of my adult life. For that, it will always hold a warm, nostalgic place in my heart and record collection.
My classic rock phase is kinda where I fell in love with daft punk so I wonder if that's a pattern or just a coincidence. I think it's a pretty easy path to follow from one to the other though
When this album came out. I was so obsessed with the song "motherboard" & to this day this song has been my ringtone since 2013 (from the mark 4:08). It's like heaven's gates open up, total eargasm.
This album is so important to me. I was in college, struggling for various reasons and this album was on loop for that school year. It really pulled me through it.
Every time I come back to Random Access Memories I’m always discovering (pun intended) new instruments and details about the record. Such a phenomenal album, and with it being their final statement, what a way to end their run.
Just listened to the whole album and I loved to death Touch ```ifloveistheansweryou'rehome``` doesn't need any explanation Also, Giorgio by Moroder is *incredible,* I adore the grand musical voyage it sucks you in and the way it's perfectly put together (also, the monologue is very beautifully inspiring)
Yeah. Was beautiful when it came out and still shines as bright. Fragments of Time is one of my favorite Daft Punk tracks and it stands out so definitively from the rest of their catalog. So many tracks just trying to explore different facets of music on this album. It's a celebration just like you said. Happy to be celebrating 10 years later.
RAM is my favorite album of the 2010s, and it means so much to someone whose dad grew up listening to disco, electro, soft rock, R&B, prog rock and other genres featured on it that Daft Punk helped revitalize and recontextualize after being rejected and/or forgotten in the public consciousness
Sometimes I forget just how spectacular this album is. Even the worst song on here is a great one. Near perfect record, a love letter to music is such a good way to put it.
can not beleive it has been 10 years. i got heavy into daft punk and electronic music in general in high school. starting making music. then I was obsessed with this album with it came out. would listen to it with headphones in the dark and do nothing else constantly. 10/10 i think motherboard is my favorite track. or Giorgio by Moroder. but the rest are so close behind.
Human After All shines most during their Alive 2007 tour in which they use the HAA tracks as a backbone to the entire set list that also fuses together live remixes of classic tracks from their first two albums. Television Rules the Nation combined with Crescendolls is amazing and immediately had myself questioning my own negative opinion of HAA.
Agreed, the first day this album dropped my friend and I drove to lake Casitas our senior year and listened to this the whole way there and back and that memory is forever planted in my brain
Just bought this on vinyl I would call it a masterpiece of our time, I’m glad Daft Punk didn’t even try to go further and out do themselves with another album respectively. It’s incredible how many people actually participated on the making of the album shown in the liner notes
Without knowing this was coming up on ten years, I had just bought this on vinyl during the weekend and it was a very exciting and nostalgic listen for me. The time period in my life was filled with a lot of teen angst, it was my junior year of high school and things were… weird. As they are for any teenager. The year prior I was getting into Daft Punk, listening to everything they had to offer. And when this dropped, I was floored. It had swept me off my feet. It was on repeat for the next few months, and even a lot of the songs followed me into my adulthood. I was devastated to hear they broke up, but I have some solace knowing they left us with such an amazing piece of art. And you’ve summed up a lot of my feelings about the album here. Thanks for taking a look back! Awesome perspective.
Wow its been 10 years Daft Punk had pretty much a flawless career. Banger album after banger album. They put their entire soul into their really well produced and fun songs They might be gone but they have all out respect
This was the first album I had ever bought. I bought it digitally on Play music using my dad's credit card. The singles - Get Lucky, Lose Yourself.. and Instant Crush were enough to get me hooked. I cherished EVERY SINGLE track. I remember not being as enamoured with the ballads such as Within or Beyond but I soon grew to love them and their places on the album. I think this album is crafted to perfection. Each production choice, from the way the acoustic drums are processed to the insane effects on the synthesisers, is immaculately executed to create a unique and holistic sound that never wears itself out throughout the album. I also love the diversity of tracks and how Daft Punk manages to keep the same DNA within each one. Tracks as different as "Fragments of Time" and "Contact" both sound completely different in style and structure but manage to work harmoniously together on this record. It's a love letter to the past, present and future of music while being distinctly Daft Punk. This is not only my favourite album, but in my opinion, the greatest album I have ever heard.
the album that I use to test every audio system including head-fi gears for years. it's just "perfect" digitally or analog, excellent hybrid recording. a million dollar recording that sounds like million dollar. I love all tracks but Fragments of Time, it's perfect. if you love the album, get the vinyl record. and get 2.
RAM was pretty much the epic feeling you get from 70s prog recods being brought to disco, synth-pop and electro, and it absolutely slaps. It's pretty funny remembering how butt-hurt some people were about it not being a house album considering how much of a trend disco and synth-pop has recently become, people thought it was just a trow back but they were actually ahead of the game
This album is incredible. I was introduced to it a few years ago and had never really listened to house or dance music before and this was a perfect introduction. Each song is simply incredible. Feels like an album of singles that could've been amazing on their own, but combines to be almost perfect.
RAM is one of the best albums in history in terms of production, composition, arrangement, interpretation, mixing and mastering. Can't describe it yet. My main inspiration to become a music producer. Each time that I listen to it I discover new things that I've never noticed before.
Man. It truly is a masterpiece. No flaws. No skips. Have to listen to it from top to bottom. For me it was also the last CD I bought. I was always comforted knowing that I had that disk in the car. It represents a certain timelessness to music despite changing technology. It even felt poetic to listen to it on a dying medium (CD).
listened to it yesterday 3 times. i gave it a 7/10 back in 2013 but i bumped it up to a 9/10 now. this album is incredibly beautiful and has aged very well. think i will buy the 10 year anniversary lp.
Album so good, songs so identifiable (as you said) that i now have the album script of fragments of time tattood on my right inner forearm. That song, and indeed the entire album encapsulates what I believe music to be. Creating memories and melodies that we can play back forever within our minds until we pass. Absolutely beatiful piece of artistry and a very fitting farewell. The perfect song is framed with silence...
The overly sterile production quality rubbed me the wrong way when I first listened, especially when compared to the digital rawness of their earlier stuff. But going back to it over these past 10 years, that “over production” almost serves to preserve this album and gives it a timeless quality. Pair that feeling, with the fact that this ended up being their final album. RAM is this perfect capstone to their entire discography. It’s an important album and an all-time classic imo.
I get a tingly sensation that he assumes that the acronym for RAM (like the one related to computers) stands for something other than Random Access Memory by calling it a "cute little acronym". That's what it stands for in IT industry as well!
Hard agree. I miss them, so much. I can't argue with their discography. All of their stuff is iconic and influential and, most importantly, great to listen to.
This album was like discovering a portal which I just passed across and never got back. I remember listening to it at work, and my day became enlightened. It made me smile that day, ten years from now and it makes me smile today. It is the soundtrack of one of the best periods of my life. Represents freedom, friendship, love and music. Still can’t express how important it is, but this is my shot. RAM ❤
This is the kind of album that evokes nostalgia of where exactly you were in life when it came out. It is an absolute classic, and is so visceral to the human experience. Truly a work of art.
I remember finding a random itunes gift card on the street for 20 bucks. Surprised it actually worked I bought the first album on iTunes I saw that day. Thank God it was RAM and the impact each song has had over the years cannot be put into words.
It grew to be my fav album through the years. The very essence of life is in there, it feels like this album knows me and everyone and it's just so comfortable of a listen, just incredible
Man 10 years. My feelings on daft punk have changed so much over those 10 years. I used to be a very casual listener, really only liking instant crush and get lucky of this record. but as the years have gone by and I've matured more in my tastes, I find myself going back to this album more and more. Starting actually from a video where giorgio by moroder was put to a clip of the regular show, I had to find out what song that was, and that's what lead my on my musical journey to what I feel confident in saying is my favorite album, not just by daft punk, but really of all time. Random access memories was such an amazing album to end on and I'm glad daft punk got to end on such a high note. Not all artists do.
daft punk are and will forever be my favorite musical artists of all time, the praise for RAM will never get old to me. it’s well deserved and i recommend it to anyone and everyone. a genuine masterpiece in my opinion.
Glad to see you revisit this, easily one of the best albums I've ever heard. How many other albums can you complain about the production being too clean? As much as I miss the robots, it's hard to imagine topping an album this pure in vision and execution.
I remember hearing a review of RAM by an older musician, and it was so interesting to hear him pick apart the songs and talk about the accompanying artists different styles. Honestly I think the reason it sounds so clean was because of how many other people were involved in this and all of the real instrumentation they used instead of sticking to more synthetic beats like they typically did in their earlier albums. 10 Years later still amazing and one of my favorite albums of all time
The Human After All hate will never ever make sense to me. While it may be stripped down and raw, all you have to do is listen to Alive 2007 to understand its power. It also started one of the great electronic eras ever in the subsquential bloghouse movement. In some ways I feel it's still ahead of it's time.
The last track Contact is the most amazing of whole album. That's an ultimate experience on psychedelics. It's literal journey into infinity. LITERALLY. It induces God's experience.

It's really been growing on me lately, I appreciate it more and more with each listen
Lose yourself to dance is still my favorite song on that album, it feels endless
This was a coming-of-age album that defined a new stage of my adult life. For that, it will always hold a warm, nostalgic place in my heart and record collection.
My dad fell in love with Daft Punk because of this album. He was 52 at the time and pretty much only listened to classic rock.
3:08.. Glad you came around on literally, arguably, the best track on the entire album.
Nile Rogers is a genius. He and Daft Punk together was one of the better ideas in music.
Just jammed this album the other day, and it still rocks. It's just timeless and filled with such incredible grooves. Glad it's getting attention
The cherry on the cake is that we now also have “Infinity repeating”
And "Horizon Ouverture"
Just listened to the whole album and I loved to death Touch
```ifloveistheansweryou'rehome``` doesn't need any explanation
Also, Giorgio by Moroder is *incredible,* I adore the grand musical voyage it sucks you in and the way it's perfectly put together (also, the monologue is very beautifully inspiring)
Yeah. Was beautiful when it came out and still shines as bright. Fragments of Time is one of my favorite Daft Punk tracks and it stands out so definitively from the rest of their catalog. So many tracks just trying to explore different facets of music on this album. It's a celebration just like you said. Happy to be celebrating 10 years later.
RAM is my favorite album of the 2010s, and it means so much to someone whose dad grew up listening to disco, electro, soft rock, R&B, prog rock and other genres featured on it that Daft Punk helped revitalize and recontextualize after being rejected and/or forgotten in the public consciousness
There will never be a duo more iconic than Daft Punk, I can’t see anyone being able to fill the vacuum they left behind
Sometimes I forget just how spectacular this album is. Even the worst song on here is a great one. Near perfect record, a love letter to music is such a good way to put it.
Instant Crush never gets enough love.
can not beleive it has been 10 years. i got heavy into daft punk and electronic music in general in high school. starting making music. then I was obsessed with this album with it came out. would listen to it with headphones in the dark and do nothing else constantly. 10/10 i think motherboard is my favorite track. or Giorgio by Moroder. but the rest are so close behind.
Human After All shines most during their Alive 2007 tour in which they use the HAA tracks as a backbone to the entire set list that also fuses together live remixes of classic tracks from their first two albums. Television Rules the Nation combined with Crescendolls is amazing and immediately had myself questioning my own negative opinion of HAA.
Instant Crush, Lose Yourself, Touch & Get Lucky. My favourite 4 songs run of all time
Agreed, the first day this album dropped my friend and I drove to lake Casitas our senior year and listened to this the whole way there and back and that memory is forever planted in my brain
Just bought this on vinyl I would call it a masterpiece of our time, I’m glad Daft Punk didn’t even try to go further and out do themselves with another album respectively. It’s incredible how many people actually participated on the making of the album shown in the liner notes
Without knowing this was coming up on ten years, I had just bought this on vinyl during the weekend and it was a very exciting and nostalgic listen for me. The time period in my life was filled with a lot of teen angst, it was my junior year of high school and things were… weird. As they are for any teenager. The year prior I was getting into Daft Punk, listening to everything they had to offer. And when this dropped, I was floored. It had swept me off my feet. It was on repeat for the next few months, and even a lot of the songs followed me into my adulthood. I was devastated to hear they broke up, but I have some solace knowing they left us with such an amazing piece of art. And you’ve summed up a lot of my feelings about the album here. Thanks for taking a look back! Awesome perspective.
Wow its been 10 years
Daft Punk had pretty much a flawless career. Banger album after banger album. They put their entire soul into their really well produced and fun songs
They might be gone but they have all out respect
I will die on the hill that Human After All is actually a GREAT album. I love the consistency and the grime it's got.
@@ricardofigueroa7716 even their weakest projects arent bad
Yoooo that’s crazy he put out a video about this because I randomly started listening to this without even knowing it’s ten years old. Out of nowhere
It's been my Album of the Summer for the past ten years. An absolute classic.
This was the first album I had ever bought. I bought it digitally on Play music using my dad's credit card. The singles - Get Lucky, Lose Yourself.. and Instant Crush were enough to get me hooked. I cherished EVERY SINGLE track. I remember not being as enamoured with the ballads such as Within or Beyond but I soon grew to love them and their places on the album.
I think this album is crafted to perfection. Each production choice, from the way the acoustic drums are processed to the insane effects on the synthesisers, is immaculately executed to create a unique and holistic sound that never wears itself out throughout the album.
I also love the diversity of tracks and how Daft Punk manages to keep the same DNA within each one. Tracks as different as "Fragments of Time" and "Contact" both sound completely different in style and structure but manage to work harmoniously together on this record.
It's a love letter to the past, present and future of music while being distinctly Daft Punk. This is not only my favourite album, but in my opinion, the greatest album I have ever heard.
Daft Punk da 🐐 no 🧢
The only guy to not like instant crush. Yeah, man, you keep thinking your class. Your own music that you write is woeful.
the album that I use to test every audio system including head-fi gears for years. it's just "perfect" digitally or analog, excellent hybrid recording. a million dollar recording that sounds like million dollar. I love all tracks but Fragments of Time, it's perfect. if you love the album, get the vinyl record. and get 2.
RAM was pretty much the epic feeling you get from 70s prog recods being brought to disco, synth-pop and electro, and it absolutely slaps.
It's pretty funny remembering how butt-hurt some people were about it not being a house album considering how much of a trend disco and synth-pop has recently become, people thought it was just a trow back but they were actually ahead of the game
Was actually just listening to this today. This and discovery are 2 amazing albums and this album specifically feels like a celebration of music
This album is incredible. I was introduced to it a few years ago and had never really listened to house or dance music before and this was a perfect introduction. Each song is simply incredible. Feels like an album of singles that could've been amazing on their own, but combines to be almost perfect.
RAM is one of the best albums in history in terms of production, composition, arrangement, interpretation, mixing and mastering. Can't describe it yet. My main inspiration to become a music producer. Each time that I listen to it I discover new things that I've never noticed before.
Beyond, Fragment of Time & Motherboard are for me underrated & Instant Crush is a 10/10 track
“Marterpiece”
Gives it a 8/10
Man. It truly is a masterpiece. No flaws. No skips. Have to listen to it from top to bottom. For me it was also the last CD I bought. I was always comforted knowing that I had that disk in the car. It represents a certain timelessness to music despite changing technology. It even felt poetic to listen to it on a dying medium (CD).
listened to it yesterday 3 times. i gave it a 7/10 back in 2013 but i bumped it up to a 9/10 now. this album is incredibly beautiful and has aged very well. think i will buy the 10 year anniversary lp.
Album so good, songs so identifiable (as you said) that i now have the album script of fragments of time tattood on my right inner forearm. That song, and indeed the entire album encapsulates what I believe music to be. Creating memories and melodies that we can play back forever within our minds until we pass. Absolutely beatiful piece of artistry and a very fitting farewell. The perfect song is framed with silence...
The overly sterile production quality rubbed me the wrong way when I first listened, especially when compared to the digital rawness of their earlier stuff. But going back to it over these past 10 years, that “over production” almost serves to preserve this album and gives it a timeless quality. Pair that feeling, with the fact that this ended up being their final album. RAM is this perfect capstone to their entire discography. It’s an important album and an all-time classic imo.
I get a tingly sensation that he assumes that the acronym for RAM (like the one related to computers) stands for something other than Random Access Memory by calling it a "cute little acronym".
That's what it stands for in IT industry as well!
Hard agree.
I miss them, so much. I can't argue with their discography. All of their stuff is iconic and influential and, most importantly, great to listen to.
Their last album was a banger.
I think I know what I'm listening to today, thanks melon!
This album was like discovering a portal which I just passed across and never got back. I remember listening to it at work, and my day became enlightened. It made me smile that day, ten years from now and it makes me smile today. It is the soundtrack of one of the best periods of my life. Represents freedom, friendship, love and music. Still can’t express how important it is, but this is my shot. RAM ❤
10 years, and still a great album. Then shortly after, the release of Daftside - Fragments of Time... absolutely a vibe
giorgio makes me want to cry it’s so beautiful and emotive whilst being a fucking banger
Nile Rogers' guitar rifts here is so cool, it's impossible to not have a nodding head if you hear it.
Touch is definitely my fav song off this great album
One of the most important albums to me that has come out during my lifetime. Very inspirational and motivational.
This is the kind of album that evokes nostalgia of where exactly you were in life when it came out. It is an absolute classic, and is so visceral to the human experience. Truly a work of art.
Ram being a 8/10 might be fantano’s worst take. Shit is easily a 10/10
Daft Punk just knows how to express a lot of deep emotions, sometimes even without words. This album and Discovery are masterpieces.
I remember finding a random itunes gift card on the street for 20 bucks. Surprised it actually worked I bought the first album on iTunes I saw that day. Thank God it was RAM and the impact each song has had over the years cannot be put into words.
to think we had no idea it’d be their last album, love this record.
Well you said it best, Anthony. 10 years, still a 10/10. Should be a top 100 album for virtually everyone who’s a fan of music
It grew to be my fav album through the years. The very essence of life is in there, it feels like this album knows me and everyone and it's just so comfortable of a listen, just incredible
It was one of the last big "pop culture albums", I feel like something changed drastically after 2013
Man 10 years. My feelings on daft punk have changed so much over those 10 years. I used to be a very casual listener, really only liking instant crush and get lucky of this record. but as the years have gone by and I've matured more in my tastes, I find myself going back to this album more and more. Starting actually from a video where giorgio by moroder was put to a clip of the regular show, I had to find out what song that was, and that's what lead my on my musical journey to what I feel confident in saying is my favorite album, not just by daft punk, but really of all time.
Random access memories was such an amazing album to end on and I'm glad daft punk got to end on such a high note. Not all artists do.
daft punk are and will forever be my favorite musical artists of all time, the praise for RAM will never get old to me. it’s well deserved and i recommend it to anyone and everyone. a genuine masterpiece in my opinion.
I'll keep saying it forever; The Weeknd biggest, absolute flex was to bag the last 2 tracks ever produced by Daft Punk.
Glad to see you revisit this, easily one of the best albums I've ever heard. How many other albums can you complain about the production being too clean? As much as I miss the robots, it's hard to imagine topping an album this pure in vision and execution.
I remember hearing a review of RAM by an older musician, and it was so interesting to hear him pick apart the songs and talk about the accompanying artists different styles. Honestly I think the reason it sounds so clean was because of how many other people were involved in this and all of the real instrumentation they used instead of sticking to more synthetic beats like they typically did in their earlier albums. 10 Years later still amazing and one of my favorite albums of all time
this album is an all-time great, maybe the best of the decade
The Human After All hate will never ever make sense to me. While it may be stripped down and raw, all you have to do is listen to Alive 2007 to understand its power. It also started one of the great electronic eras ever in the subsquential bloghouse movement. In some ways I feel it's still ahead of it's time.
The last track Contact is the most amazing of whole album. That's an ultimate experience on psychedelics. It's literal journey into infinity. LITERALLY. It induces God's experience.
Lose Yourself to Dance is a bop
This album was extremely important to me. I listened to it all senior year of HS when it came out.
I got to miss on seeing Daft Punk live and to hear this album in 2013 was a breath of fresh air. Todd Edwards said it best, they're modern classics.
