Your little note about Vintage Crochet Patterns helps me understand why I started a doily and then gave it to the cat after I couldn't make round 14 make any sense whatsoever.
yeah, it used to be a good site, but they re-write the patterns and don't get them right more than half the times , I stopped using that site a while ago
Oh my goodness! I watched this mystery video yesterday and went to a local thrift shop today. I found a vintage crochet book at the thrift shop, bought it and brought it home. I started flipping through and came across the original pattern in the book!
I recognize this pattern. I made it when I was around 12 or 13. ( I'm 76 now). I never made enough squares to make a bed spread. I would loose interest before I got a big project completed. My crocheting aunt made several large projects, bed spreads, table cloths, and especially those starched table doilies that resembled tutus.
I recognize it too. My grandmother made it. She tested out a couple of different colors. I have a couple of her samples in cream, green and gold, My sister has the blanket-My grandmother eventually decided on just cream
Awesome to hear of others that started so young with crochet. I also started at the age of 12. My father one day out of the blue said let’s go to the store. Bought me crochet and knitting hooks and a few colors of yarn. He showed me some of the basic stitches of knitting and crochet. He said he learned it from watching his sister while growing up. I fell in love with it then. I have taught 3 of my grand daughters so far. 1 is amazing me so. Just after the learning basics stitches, she went in full speed ahead. Thats where the internet came in. If she wants to learn a pattern of something bad enough she goes hunting and then shocks me with the results. I have 2 more grand daughters. 1 is sparking interest, so soon she we be following our footsteps. By all means take the time to pass it down to the young.
Just read your story I'm 63 and my greatest hope as a child and as an adult, is to do what you described. Sadly I have no one to pass along this wonderful and useful handicraft. Saying all this to say .... Lucky you. Enjoy every moment as I'm sure you do
I'm brazilian and Círculo - the yarn brand you used - is a really popular and well known brand established in 1938 in Brazil. I make amigurumi and love their 100% mercerized cotton yarns. The piece turned out really pretty despite your struggle with the confusing pattern.
Well now, didn't that just turn out perfect! I have a ton of different styles of granny squares in totes here, might as well add this one to the mix!! Gonna have to go back and rewatch and hopefully don't make any mistakes along the way. Everybody needs more bedspread squares in their lives...right? 😂😂
My mother-in-law made a gorgeous bedspread with this pattern… She gave it to my sister-in-law and included extra squares for repairs. After my MIL passed away, I was given one of the squares framed, and I look at it every day. This brought back all those memories ❤
I really love your mystery crochet patterns I learn a lot from them. I love how you keep your videos real with your mistakes. You are a beautiful lady inside and out. God bless you and your family and your sweet fur baby too such a super cute dog. My husband and I and and our bible study group on Skype are all praying for you dear ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m stopping the video on the second round in. If it was a “chain 2” instead of a “chain 21”, it would be the beginning of my “signature pattern “. It is squares with popcorns and clusters for a bedspread. Ok going back in to see how this drama plays out. Ok edit: This did turn out to be the same pattern I’ve been doing since I was 17 in the 70’s. I ran out of money to buy thread part way through this bedspread and I turned it into a fringed poncho (1972 was high style then) Since then I have used this pattern to make all kinds of things. When the squares are put together, it makes a square lattice/ diamond design. It is very striking. You nailed it, but now my “signature pattern” is out if the bag. It’s ok, because it was old when I adopted it in the first place.
I made a poncho out of this pattern in the 70’s. (It was meant to be a bedspread, but I never got that far. Turned it into a poncho with fringe instead).
I scanned the QR code thingy and eventually got to a place on the site where I could register my email address to get access to a bunch of free downloadable fiber craft booklets and patterns. Embroidery, crochet and so on. In English! Thanks for thinking to share that. Now to watch the mystery unfold over my coffee. ETA: I was taught a long time ago by a Navajo sand painter that a "mistake" must be intentionally (or not) incorporated into each painting in order to avoid trapping spirits (beneficent or malignant) in the work. "You don't have absolute control over what might be trapped in there, so it's better not to chance it." I've adopted this idea into all my creative endeavors ever since. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)
This was fun Corinna though I’m not a fan of popcorn, it’s a yarn eater, good job 👍 You may enjoy a video by Elise Rose on the history of crochet, very interesting 🤔
I made about 4 in the 50's. Came out of pattern book that I taught myself stitches. Title might have been "I Made It Myself". Used it 'till the cover disappeared. Still using it.
Hi! I'm Brazilian and I'd like to tell that Anne is a yarn that's been around since at least the 70s, I remember my grandma made a pink bonnet with it for my doll and she also taught me how to crochet with it. Such sweet memories. The colors have been updated and expanded, but the yarn itself is still pretty much the same
I really enjoy your videos! I crack myself up because here I am watching and talking to you like you can hear me helping out and pointing at the pattern. 🤪 These are such fun mystery patterns! 🧶💖
Your "mistakes" have taught me so much so please keep making them. I have learnt how to try and see ahead of what the end goal of the stich pattern might be and if it doesn't make sense step back and re-think what you are doing. I am still a beginner and learning that has made me improve so much more than just watching someone do the basic stiches over and over again. Got cocky enough to try and translate a vintage pattern and give it a go, didn't work well but am still working on it. Would live to see it as a mystery pattern if only to understand where i went wrong 😂

Hi Corinna! i was doing a crochet doily when I started watching the video and guess what? I am using Anne too! What a coincidence! I am brazilian, and Circulo is one of the biggest yarn and thread companies here in Brazil. I recommend to you their cotton thread Clea, its even thinner, you have to use a 1.25mm hook. Hi, Corrina. Wow, I am impressed at the way you figured the beginning of the pattern out. It just shows your experience and expertise in working and reading patterns, at the ch.21 misprint I would have gave up. 😂. I really liked the pattern once you figured it out. 😊, I also would like to find that Anne cotton yarn from Brazil, and try it. Anyway you impressed and 😮 delighted myself with this video. ❤, keep up the good work! See ya soon on the tube. Oh, yes you are right on with that A.I. flood. 😮.

I'll frog my own mistakes endlessly, but if the pattern has big errors (ch2 vs ch21?!?) I just implode and frog it all. 😂 Re: AI, OMG yes, totally agree! I love science and history content, YT is now filled with AI-generated hogwash that's nothing more than click bait. I don't envy YT as they know if they demonetize someone who uses AI due to a speech impediment or thick accent 💩 could hit the fan. Also, how to define "creative"? My son (23) will use Blender to create digital objects that make me go 🤯 but for him it's NBD. That same son will watch me make a quick scarf using all DCs and cowers from my witchcraft. Neither of us feel we're being overly "creative". I think I'll just continue being my old Luddite self... I don't own a dog *big* enough to put in the AI fight. 😂

I made a Cardigan for my sister in that yarn & it turned out beautifully & washes so well. I have several balls from the same company & love it ❤️❤️👏👏🇬🇧
Beautiful work Karina! You really nailed it!😊 My aunt had made a blanket for me back at early 80’s with a very similar pattern and thick cotton yarn. It’s a very beautiful blanket and a treasure for me.
I had several patterns similar to this one back in the 90's. Made up a bunch of them, starched them, and added hooks for "snowflakes" for my Christmas tree. They look just as charming now as they did when I made them. Hmmm...I may be inspired to make more now for my daughters' Christmas trees. Thank you for videos!

This one almost feels like deja vu.... or am I imagining things.... again? Very pretty. Still want to try this sort of pattern in a 3 weight yarn.
Can you start off with the magic circle. I like the look of the center that way.
This is a nice pattern that you havendone.
Yeah, I think that's perfectly fine :)

I love these Mysteries.
When I first learned crochet many years ago, my first crochet items were doilies made with thread. I love to see you figure out a mystery pattern.
That is awesome!
This is a beautiul square. I could never keep up enough interest to make enough squares for a bedspread. I love the mystery patterns!!
Im the same way, but if made using #4 yarn or even a bulky yarn, you would only need to make like maybe 8-10 squares :)
Oooo a bedspread made of these in different colors!!❤
That’s gonna be my next “stash buster”. Using up my many balls of left over thread.
I scanned the QR code thingy and eventually got to a place on the site where I could register my email address to get access to a bunch of free downloadable fiber craft booklets and patterns. It takes a really serious mistake to make me frog a work in progress. I’m pretty good at hiding mistakes.
It's beautiful, it reminds me a lot of the Chenille bedspreads we all had in the 60s and 70s.
Reminds me of the farmhouse granny square! In a farmhouse, with granny, having popcorn... nothing wrong with that!

This would make a beautiful bedspread!
I made a Cardigan for my sister in that yarn & it turned out beautifully & washes so well. I have several balls from the same company & love it ❤️❤️👏👏🇬🇧
I love it!❤
Beautiful work Karina! You really nailed it!😊 My aunt had made a blanket for me back at early 80’s with a very similar pattern and thick cotton yarn. It’s a very beautiful blanket and a treasure for me.
That is awesome!
Good morning 🌄🌞 blessings ☕
Good morning!

I really like this too. It would make a very nice bedspread.
Very pretty.
Love it. Thanks.
This was really pretty. Yes definitely make a pattern for it please. It would look really good in a thick yarn .
