If you haven't heard this yet today, I love the way you screw things up. You created an entirely different motif, and personally, I'd rather have the afghan made with your motifs. Keep going, gurl, you are fierce!
I had a rather heated argument with an Australian English professor she said, "rugs belonged on the bed!" I of course argued they belong on the floor.
Back in the day we Brits would've called a blanket/throw a rug...not as in carpet. I'm not sure we'd have known what an Afghan was apart from a dog with long silky hair!
blanket/throw is rug like biscuits are scones. different words meaning different things in US v UK English. Just like our crochet stitches.
And since the 70’s were highly influenced by the Beatles from the 60’s and other British groups & actors, it probably was the popular slang that was used for Afghans.
If you go back about a hundred years a rug in the US can also mean a heavy lap blanket, like you’d need in a sleigh or open car (automobile).
@@littleblackcar ah, yes it's the passing of time that changes the meaning of some words.
Anything rugged we called a rug like a fat chubby coaster for under a pot was called a rug or a thing you put on the side board. . I always thought of it as a rugged peice of something. We had lots of small rugs that got used in lots of different ways and none of them were on the floor expect the parlour rug! The tea pot had a rug under it and it was usually something you wouldn't snuggle up with like a blanket but you moght put it on the sofa at the bakc like an antimackasser ...
Round 7 has some stitches that work into round 5 as well. Still very pretty! Groovy!
It's so nice to watch you crochet a pattern written by someone with a brain. You were so much more relaxed, and so was I. Don't beat yourself up over the mistake, it was easy to overlook, and the result is still beautiful.
In round 7, the quad trebles should have gone down to the 5th round, much like round 6 down to the 4th round.
Way to go girl. Giving us "Two for the price of one". I love your design and your choice of colours.😀
I love your end result more than the intended pattern. Both are pretty, but yours just makes me happier. 😊
Flower Power 😊, that's what we used to say back then.
We called them African flowers back in the day :) They are beautiful!! I guess a chunky yarn would make a nice rug?? You did great!!! Beautiful!! Thank you, this made my morning! ❤
Official request for more Merlin content ❤
Even though you missed a step I really like what you created. I love watching all of your mystery patterns.
Your videos always make my day! I get withdrawals when there isn’t a new one posted 😮
I want to make a granny square cardigan out of these so badly.
I like the way both look. Can't wait to see the next batch of mystery patterns too!
According to the Oxford English Dictionary- The earliest known use of the noun Afghan rug is in the 1870s. Afghan rug - Any of several types of hand-knotted rug, produced in different tribal nomadic and urban contexts, with repeated geometric motifs. So I guess calling a blanket an afghan is another Americanism? 😃
That difference between the dialects can really get ya. It is a blanket, the reference to a rug could also mean a throw or a lap blanket. It’s the British equivalent to a small blanket for your shoulders or to cover your lap/knees.
Hiya Corinna, I think its a lovely flower pattern, I was excited as it grew. Thats Crochet Artistry for you. Well done I say❣️
Your version looks super cute too! And with these squares you can do whatever you want 🙂
I love listening to you and Merlin. ❤❤
"When weather happens" in Arizona - I suppose here in England, we can't appreciate what you mean by that! 😅😅
Such a prety crochet Corinna, thank you for all you do to bring us fun. 😊😊
You are so sweet! I'd love to have you as a neighbor ♥️
I really like the color of the ice yarn. It's really pretty 😊
Love this! This would be so groovy as a poncho.
I like yours a lot better! Obviously it's a 70s pattern so I get the whole "flower power" motif but yours it's much more timeless. ❤
I also wanted to comment, with the colors you chose and the way it worked out, it reminds me of a pretty purple pansy - one of my favorite flowers. So cute!
I have so much fun watching your mystery pattern videos. BTW I made your Titanic Shawl from 1908 and it turned out great!😊
I just love your videos. You are real and funny and I adore it.
I actually prefer your motif to the one in the photo. Very pretty.
Well even though you may have not did it exactly right it still looks beautiful
I like yours better. The proportions are nicer. I love this, its so 70s :) rug == throw in UK english
I agree with others here, your version is better.
By the way a rug can also be a type of woollen blanket as well as a floor covering.
I like the way yours came out. Nicer than the original pattern
Just love how you explain the pattern. It always looks so easy. Just love your voice.😊
Corinna, it still turned out super cute! I SO depend on images when I am following a pattern. :)
I was just waiting for the lightbulb to go on! I too like this pattern but so not a fan of afghans made up of single motifs. I tried back in the late ‘60’s early ‘70’s to make a granny square afghan and gave up when I realized I would have to make 5,761,300 squares (not really quite that many but it was a lot!) and then sew them together. 😉
We are only human making mistakes. It was pretty anyway😊
The color story you chose is gorgeous!
Love both motifs, can't wait for the next mystery.
I'm gonna be honest, I like your version better than the 70's one. :-)
I like both too.🎉
I am so glad pattern instructions have gotten easier to read compared to even the instructions from the ‘70s, which wasn’t that long ago.
hiya corinna! jeepers, youve done it again - i like yours much better!
PS- …. And your nails look great!
It's still groovy!!! I love it!
I don't quite know what you did wrong but what you made is beautiful
I think that 4 means a size 4/F hook, which is sometimes 3.5mm and sometimes 3.75mm. ❤
I actually prefer your version. Those would look stunning made into an Afghan. 🙂
Still came out pretty❣
I really like both! Your mistake and the intended
I get so excited every time you post one of these! 💜
your version especially the colors is so lovely.
I love this! And the colors you chose are gorgeous! This reminds me of a pansy (my favorite flower!).
P.S. I love it more the way you made it! ❤
I like yours much better!
Hi, C! In the second to last round your very first set of trebles are only doubles. It's ok. It's super pretty & I love your colors. Thanks for this leap into spring. Threadheads to the end! Hugs
Maybe it’s not the same but it’s as cute as can be! Great job!
“Rug” (I believe) is a UK term for blanket or cover. I listen to a lot of audiobooks set in Britain and have heard rug used when the author was referring to a blanket.
I dunno if ireland is the same as UK but anything rugged we called a rug. I always thought that's where the word came from. Like any chubby fat rough thing that wasn't quite a snuggly blanket but a tougher sort of thing could be felt or hessian or under the kettle or on the back of the couch but was rugged. My granny would always get rough bits of yarn or fabric and say they would do for a rug. But apart from the parlour rug none of the rugs we had went on the floor. They were things for the paint stool or a tea tray or anything really. But always rugged like tough ..so I always though rug was short for rugged!
I'm old enough that I remember the flower design 😂 I'm going to make it again and I'm going to make an Afghan using your pattern design "mistake" 🥰 I love it 😍
I really like your version best lol. 😊
I really like how yours came out! It looks like one of those cool spiky spring flowers. I think either motif would make a great afghan!
I actually like yours better! ❤
I love the way it turned out!
I love the colors you chose! 😍
I really like yours better its beautiful
Despite the mess up it is very pretty, I might use this pattern for a cardigan, once I‘ve translated it to German that is 😅 On smaller pieces I can work with UK or US stitch names, but this is a little more complicated.
I absolutely love your work, it‘s always interesting what our forbearers in crochet cooked up.
It's gorgeous. I like it better with the short petals!
Still cute 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love your motif! I can imagine a red/orange with black and a yellow/green with indigo all together on the rug/afghan. so pretty!
Still pretty. I have a bunch of my grandma patterns from the 40’s and 50’s. I’m holding on to, but most are of clothes and I tend to stay away from clothes. Some children and some womens.
Totally groovy! ✌🌸
Both patterns are pretty. Your way works too.
I actually prefer your version to the proper way 😊
"Rug" (oh I see that's pointed out by others below, heh) can be an afghan in UK-speak. I like your happy accident though it looks kind of like a tie-dye pattern.
So pretty!
Also love these colors❤❤
Have to make it! Thanks for sharing ❤
Definitely a win win and so versatile! And would make a great rug or afghan.
Good job love it 👍
I love them both but yours best! ❤
Two designs, one pattern! I love them both! And yes, I was talking to you in round six. 🤭
I think the motif you made is very beautiful! It's like a snowflake or a Tudor rose. An excellent mistake.
I like both ways and the colours (as always)are so beautifully matched, great work 🤩
Love both! Lol, you’re a pattern designer too! Good job!
Good afternoon and blessings crocheting 🧶👋🏾🤗 awesome 👍🏾
I like your version better. Yours looks like a bouquet of spring blooms. Sweet!
Wow!! It might not be the same... but I love what you created!
I love the way your motif looks.
You do know that "rug" can mean a blanket as well in UK English. Like in travel rug. A covering blanket usually in thick wool
I like it your way! But the other is pretty also! All things considered( translating pattern, dog barking 😊) You did a Fantastic job! Thank you, this was fun!
lol! I like yours better!
Love the pattern it turned out to be . I will give it a try. Using the color that you used. Love it! 😊keep up the laughter 😊
I like your square. No mistake made.
The one you made looks like a snowflake ❄️ 😊
I actually like your "happy" mistake much better!
I actually like your first square better than the actual pattern! ❤
Honestly, I really like your version better! Thank you for doing these. 🤗
I never realized you were in Arizona!!! I am too
Very pretty, love the colour combination!
At minute 14ish, it looks like a parrot/macaw eye to me. Really pretty color combination.
Flower power! I like yours too!
It was a gorgeous mistake. Love the colors!!
