For y’all who don’t even realize, vivziepop does not animate Hazbin or helluva all by herself. She has animators to help her work on it. All of these animators have to draw in her style so that it’s consistent!! So if anything Phobia has a very high chance of being able to work with Vivziepop BECAUSE she draws that way!
Phobia could also work for her in the concept art team, she would totally be accepted, if she wishes to work with her in the future we should all give her support

I think there is a fine line with "Canon appearance" or cannon art style for an oc or fan au for your fan oc, an basically your art style is basically some one else's an you make your own oc worth said style an it has nothing to do with the show or original.

My high school art teacher told me that practicing in other people's styles is the best way to learn, and grow, and eventually create your own style. (And your art will always be different from the original you take inspiration from, or even copy, and that can be seen when we look at actual art fakes of famous, classic paintings. They always(?) end up notably different.) The artist in question's work reminds me of the stuff I used to draw when I was young. I LOVED a particular DA user's work, and I would really do my best to create the same look and feel they were able to create in their pieces. It helped me progress as an artist, and I eventually grew out of drawing in their style and into drawing in my unique way.
Yeah, it does. So does tracing. As long as you post post the tracing calling it your own, it can teach you how to draw something. I like to draw in styles I like as well and create my own style from taking in aspects of all the styles I like

My last art teacher said that every artist in all time have been "stealing" or as you say, take inspiration from each other. That's how you develop as an artist. It's not just in art we're "stealing" from each other, it's everything in life, fashion, makeup, houses, cars, lifestyles etc. :) Like you said. Don't copy just get inspired!
@gapple * So the thing about language--and especially the English language--that gives this discussion more depth is that the connotations of words can give even close synonyms very different meanings. Now, this means a few things. For one, you CAN say that insulting someone is harassing them, but... not really? Not on its own, usually. It has a lot to do with intent. It has a lot to do with persistence, too. And frequency. If you poke someone on the shoulder once to get their attention, that's not harassment. When you do it multiple times, trying to coerce them into doing something, that's harassment. Taking this back to the main point, here, bullying is not exactly the same as harassment. Anyone can harass anyone. Bullying implies an imbalance of power in favor of the offending party. You don't think of a bully as a kid with the exact same social standing and physical appearance as another picking on each other. (It technically still is, but that's not what you think of.) Usually when being harassed, you can push back and even match the offender. When being bullied, there's no real way to fight back. At best you can get someone bigger or more popular to help you out, but you can't reasonably retaliate, yourself. Also, I just wanna point out that it's weird you're acting like "harassing" is worse. I definitely feel like "bullying" has the more sour connotation, but neither one is really a good thing, so I guess it's all the same, in the end? Just my long, roundabout way of saying that we shouldn't cut words out of our vocabulary because those different words carry a different connotation for a reason.

Vivziepops style has had very notable stylization since day one, long before hazbin hotel, hell even before her old comic Zoophobia. So, no. As a mature (aka, someone in their 30’s) artist who has been involved in the online art world since the dinosaur age, I’m going to say that this girl is definitely inspired by Vivziepop’s artwork and has adopted her style to an extent. However, as a result, I’m assuming that she is young and just starting out on her artistic journey. At some point something will click and her style will develop into something more unique. Every artist starts out copying from their idols, then they go on to shape a style from all of their influences. Don’t worry about it.

Just looking at the comparison between Katie Killjoy and Phobia's character, I can see, yes there is inspiration, but they aren't exactly the same. Viv's artsyle rarely involves curves and circles, while Phobia's does. Yes, it looks like Phobia is inspired by Viv's artsyle, but she doesn't replicate it perfectly, as what Plex in the 'callout' video is trying to say.

Right? I used to do realism art and when I started branching out to anime, cartoon, semi realism and people were complaining that "style theft" was a thing. I was so confused. Like no honey that's not how any of this works. I've been ripping off all of reality and hundreds of artists before me if "style theft" was real. XD
I've seen cases when someone copies every single aspect of someone else's style, from the linework, coloring techniques, even the little personal details like the highlights in the eyes, and it even caused the artist they were inspired by losing clients because they could get essentially the same art for cheaper. However, I do agree that every single artist no matter how successful or popular, has been inspired and learned techniques from other artists and their idols.
I did a doodle of a character and I loved it so much. What I didn’t know until my sister pointed it out was that it kind of looked similar to another persons character, and I’m scared of posting her on social media because I don’t want to be attacked.

Not really related to the comment but I tell my sister a lot that your art starts from copying, it's normal. She doesn't draw a lot, mainly she does for school projects, but sometimes she likes to whip out a canvas and try painting. She's really talented, and I wish my sister can see that, even though art isn't a big hobby for her. Just a mild vent moment here I guess.
Man I learned SO MUCH from trying to imitate my favourite fanartist's styles. Viria, Sabertooth Raccoon, Elentori, and Cindersart, to name a few. I was 12 or 13 at the time and my art went from shitty scribbles to an array of experiments in style. And eventually around 15 years old I started to find my very own style. I branched out from only doing fan art and started making OCs with stories of their own. If I hadn't had that period of time imitating people's styles, I don't know what or how I'd be drawing!? I have no clue where my art would be but it deffinitely wouldn't be where it is now. It'd probably be a lot less coherent, a lot more unsure of its style, and a lot shittier all around, tbh.
literally the only way to copy someones art style is tracing- which is only wrong if you claim the tracing as your own drawing- (sometimes i’ll trace over other artists drawings in my free time, and then try coloring it as best as i can.) i just started art three days ago so my wrist isn’t really used to the... flicking? like drawing the lines smoothly. but i obv dont claim it as my own- i don’t even t r y and post it online

If you notice, Phobia’s work consists of more pastel colors, whereas Viv’s is more brightly colored. Not to say that these two don’t do the other way around, but there’s a clear difference. Either way both of they’re art are great 👍
Yeah, so I looked at her art, and they don't look the same. Vivzie's art style is more curves with sharp angles, while Phobia's all curves no sharp angles. Vivzie color is bright, while Phobia's color is warm and light. I fail to see the resemblance of the two.

It’ll make you look less like a fanboy, and it’ll even help others see what you’re seeing. Lots of shows have art style similarities, that doesn’t mean they’re threats to each other. Heck I’ve seen plenty of artwork that bares resemblance to Vivipop’s.

I've wanted to switch to a more "simplistic" style, by that I mean something that's not so... Constrictive with proportions and realism. Hazbin Hotel has been a big inspiration, and now this artist that he is shamelessly trying to slander will also be an inspiration. Art style theft is not a thing, if it were, no one would be drawing.

“Art Style Theft” is a terrible rephrase of the word ‘inspiration’. I’m not going to lie, when I was beginning to draw, I heavily referenced other artist’s style to help develop my own. Should I be ashamed of it? No, because I am fairly happy with my style, and I was LUCKY to never get back-lash for “Art Style Theft” I would have probably lost all my inspiration. For people shooting down beginner artists before they even have a chance, shame on them. My art style is similar only because I've followed Vivzie from when I began to draw. Art-styles form from inspirations and most and nearly ALL of the time its unintentional. No one owns an art-style.
I do remember having a artstyle taking some similarities from Viv's, tho I never posted them online. Ever. I just did keep them to myself, and I started it I believe last year, idk. Seriously my college level drawing class final project was to replicate the style an existing piece of work
For y’all who don’t even realize, vivziepop does not animate Hazbin or helluva all by herself. She has animators to help her work on it. All of these animators have to draw in her style so that it’s consistent!! So if anything Phobia has a very high chance of being able to work with Vivziepop BECAUSE she draws that way!

My high school art teacher told me that practicing in other people's styles is the best way to learn, and grow, and eventually create your own style. (And your art will always be different from the original you take inspiration from, or even copy, and that can be seen when we look at actual art fakes of famous, classic paintings. They always(?) end up notably different.) The artist in question's work reminds me of the stuff I used to draw when I was young. I LOVED a particular DA user's work, and I would really do my best to create the same look and feel they were able to create in their pieces. It helped me progress as an artist, and I eventually grew out of drawing in their style and into drawing in my unique way.
Yeah, it does. So does tracing. As long as you post post the tracing calling it your own, it can teach you how to draw something. I like to draw in styles I like as well and create my own style from taking in aspects of all the styles I like

My last art teacher said that every artist in all time have been "stealing" or as you say, take inspiration from each other. That's how you develop as an artist. It's not just in art we're "stealing" from each other, it's everything in life, fashion, makeup, houses, cars, lifestyles etc. :) Like you said. Don't copy just get inspired!

@gapple * So the thing about language--and especially the English language--that gives this discussion more depth is that the connotations of words can give even close synonyms very different meanings. Now, this means a few things. For one, you CAN say that insulting someone is harassing them, but... not really? Not on its own, usually. It has a lot to do with intent. It has a lot to do with persistence, too. And frequency. If you poke someone on the shoulder once to get their attention, that's not harassment. When you do it multiple times, trying to coerce them into doing something, that's harassment.
Taking this back to the main point, here, bullying is not exactly the same as harassment. Anyone can harass anyone. Bullying implies an imbalance of power in favor of the offending party. You don't think of a bully as a kid with the exact same social standing and physical appearance as another picking on each other. (It technically still is, but that's not what you think of.) Usually when being harassed, you can push back and even match the offender. When being bullied, there's no real way to fight back. At best you can get someone bigger or more popular to help you out, but you can't reasonably retaliate, yourself.
Also, I just wanna point out that it's weird you're acting like "harassing" is worse. I definitely feel like "bullying" has the more sour connotation, but neither one is really a good thing, so I guess it's all the same, in the end? Just my long, roundabout way of saying that we shouldn't cut words out of our vocabulary because those different words carry a different connotation for a reason.

Vivziepops style has had very notable stylization since day one, long before hazbin hotel, hell even before her old comic Zoophobia. So, no. As a mature (aka, someone in their 30’s) artist who has been involved in the online art world since the dinosaur age, I’m going to say that this girl is definitely inspired by Vivziepop’s artwork and has adopted her style to an extent. However, as a result, I’m assuming that she is young and just starting out on her artistic journey. At some point something will click and her style will develop into something more unique. Every artist starts out copying from their idols, then they go on to shape a style from all of their influences. Don’t worry about it.

Just looking at the comparison between Katie Killjoy and Phobia's character, I can see, yes there is inspiration, but they aren't exactly the same. Viv's artsyle rarely involves curves and circles, while Phobia's does. Yes, it looks like Phobia is inspired by Viv's artsyle, but she doesn't replicate it perfectly, as what Plex in the 'callout' video is trying to say.

I've seen cases when someone copies every single aspect of someone else's style, from the linework, coloring techniques, even the little personal details like the highlights in the eyes, and it even caused the artist they were inspired by losing clients because they could get essentially the same art for cheaper. However, I do agree that every single artist no matter how successful or popular, has been inspired and learned techniques from other artists and their idols.
I did a doodle of a character and I loved it so much. What I didn’t know until my sister pointed it out was that it kind of looked similar to another persons character, and I’m scared of posting her on social media because I don’t want to be attacked.

Not really related to the comment but I tell my sister a lot that your art starts from copying, it's normal. She doesn't draw a lot, mainly she does for school projects, but sometimes she likes to whip out a canvas and try painting. Man I learned SO MUCH from trying to imitate my favourite fanartist's styles. Viria, Sabertooth Raccoon, Elentori, and Cindersart, to name a few. I was 12 or 13 at the time and my art went from shitty scribbles to an array of experiments in style. And eventually around 15 years old I started to find my very own style. I branched out from only doing fan art and started making OCs with stories of their own. If I hadn't had that period of time imitating people's styles, I don't know what or how I'd be drawing!? I have no clue where my art would be but it deffinitely wouldn't be where it is now. It'd probably be a lot less coherent, a lot more unsure of its style, and a lot shittier all around, tbh.

literally the only way to copy someones art style is tracing-
which is only wrong if you claim the tracing as your own drawing-
(sometimes i’ll trace over other artists drawings in my free time, and then try coloring it as best as i can.)

If art style theft is a thing then everyone is guilty. I am not an major artist but I know artist get inspired by others inspired isn't the same as theft.
If you notice, Phobia’s work consists of more pastel colors, whereas Viv’s is more brightly colored. Not to say that these two don’t do the other way around, but there’s a clear difference. Either way both of they’re art are great 👍
Yeah, so I looked at her art, and they don't look the same. Vivzie's art style is more curves with sharp angles, while Phobia's all curves no sharp angles.
Vivzie color is bright, while Phobia's color is warm and light. I fail to see the resemblance of the two.

If you think there’s plagiarism going on, then try to explain why and be a bit polite about it. It’ll make you look less like a fanboy, and it’ll even help others see what you’re seeing.
And even if you do believe that Phobia was inspired by Vi, you have to admit that the response shown here is way too much. Lots of shows have art style similarities, that doesn’t mean they’re threats to each other. Heck I’ve seen plenty of artwork that bares resemblance to Vivipop’s.

I've wanted to switch to a more "simplistic" style, by that I mean something that's not so... Constrictive with proportions and realism.

“Art Style Theft” is a terrible rephrase of the word ‘inspiration’. I’m not going to lie, when I was beginning to draw, I heavily referenced other artist’s style to help develop my own. Should I be ashamed of it? No, because I am fairly happy with my style, and I was LUCKY to never get back-lash for “Art Style Theft” I would have probably lost all my inspiration. For people shooting down beginner artists before they even have a chance, shame on them.

Dennise Torres well no it’s the way she brings together all the traits that makes her style so distinctive. You can instantly recognize her style for a reason. Sure, certain things are borrowed from other artists but saying her style isn’t original is just false dude. And it’s clear the artist took heavy inspiration from Viv’s style and that’s okay! But claiming Viv’s style isn’t original ain’t it buckaroo.

My art style is similar only because I've followed Vivzie from when I began to draw. Art-styles form from inspirations and most and nearly ALL of the time its unintentional. No one owns an art-style.
I do remember having a artstyle taking some similarities from Viv's, tho I never posted them online. Ever. I just did keep them to myself, and I started it I believe last year, idk. But yeah, Phobia isn't tracing, copying, or reposting Vivs art. So Plex should leave them alone. And this is coming from a small artist who really isn't online with art much.
