Great pick guys!! What’s the next one we gotta check out?!?! Cheers friends! 🔥🤟🏻
I will not cease until you react to No One Together by Kansas.
Check out Great van Fleet or The Eagles
I don't think you guys have done Closer to the Heart yet. It's a quick one, but a great one as well.
Middletown dreams.
Ya'll just gotta do "A Man I'll Never Be" by Boston. It's the best they did after the epic first album.
Caress Of Steel……. terribly underrated Masterpiece.
Most of the time someone says underrated I think they’re over exaggerating. But in this case you’re totally right, this album is wayyyy underrated
@@jeremydraper733 It's a damn shame to. It should have been as big as 2112.
Could not have said it better myself!
@@markhaus2830 I think Caress is better than 2112 . . .
@@747panos I think I might agree with that by a slight margin. Absolutely brilliant album!
Now yall gotta do the b-side and listen to “Fountain of Lamneth”. Its a multiple part song and its one of their most beautiful pieces IMO. Jam on 🤘
Its brilliant.
Fountain is the ultimate deep cut. Farking BRILLIANT.
Love this song “Draw another goblet from the cask of 43... crimson misty memory... hazy glimpse of me.”
@@toddherklotz5970 Every time I crack a bottle of red wine. Every. Time.
Panacea the ultimate romantic passion song
When they released this album in '75, they were very excited about it, but the record didn't do well. When asked about the album years later, Geddy remembered the band being high a lot during the recording of the album. It was after the album's commercial failure that Rush were told by their record label to make their music more commercially accessible. Of course, they didn't listen; and 2112 was born.
Gotta Admit 2112 was an Artistic Masterpiece!! I loved their first album without Neil Pert but 2112 Totally Blew my Mind as a 15 year old back in 78 when I first heard it!!
To this day 2112 is the greatest middle finger in rock history.
Keep in mind this is only Rush's 3rd album and only the 2nd with Neil and he was still exploring his range and capabilities as a songwriter. By-Tor on the previous record was their first stab at a long form style of music and The Necromancer was merely the continuation of that. So it may seem a bit more basic than later offerings, but they were still trying to find their voice. And of course the next album's foray into this realm is the more polished 2112. But I adore The Necromancer. Its a long song featuring a young band rocking their faces off. Great pick and analysis, guys.
Caress Of Steel is a fantastic, and mostly underrated album....
Except to us Rush fans.
Rock 🤘
"Anthem" will smoke your ears off. Just a flat-out jam. Ask any Rush fan. Lifeson just tears it up. What a player.
Yep. Born from their first audition/jam with Neil, they discovered their unique chemistry with that piece. Anthem rocks!
This song has one of the greatest rock solos ever!
YOU HAVE TO DO CYGNUS X1-BOOK 1..THEN CYGNUS X1-BOOK 2!!! ONE RPIC STORY OVER 2 EPIC SONGS
They are SO GOOD!
Yeah, if your gonna do Rush epics, these 2 songs, Cygnus X-1, Cygnus X-1 Book II Hemispheres are a must.
Cygnus X-1 is Neil's greatest drum performance, IMO.
d0ublestr0ker0ll I think hemispheres (CygnusX1Book2) is their greatest display of writing& musicianship ever (especially when you consider the movie quality story, part 1 reference, and cinematic feel)
MasterZM10 yes!!!! Guys please do Cygnus 1 and 2 next for Rush Wednesday. You won’t be disappointed.
Hell yes. The deepest of deep RUSH tracks are both on this album. I’d highly suggest The Fountain of Lamneth next.
"Three travelers, men of Willowdale" is a tongue in cheek reference to Geddy and Alex's neighborhood in Toronto from which they hailed originally. It also sounds rather Tolkienesque, which is quite fitting, as The Necromancer was one of the various names given to Sauron in the Middle Earth canon.
Tis in fact about Sauron
@@IarwainBen-adar Alas, I always pictured it as happening at Dol Guldor as his wraith escapes in the end...
CARESS is underrated.
absolutely, couldn't agree more
Agreed, even among the Rush faithful its often regarded as weak. For me its a great chill album and its in constant rotation of records I listen to on a regular basis.
Plus ,one of the best titled albums of
All time! I mean come on...... CARESS OF STEEL! Fucking BAD ASS!
Not by me. It's my favourite Rush album and Bastille Day is my favourite Rush song.
id say if you had to choose their most underrated and overlooked, even by the band, test for echo would win
Hard to understand why Alex Lifeson isn't included when people start ranking the greatest rock guitarists. He's at least as good as Clapton, Page, et. al.
Better
To me his phrasing tends to be really off-putting, but I get why other people appreciate it
In the day, someone asked Eddie van Halen if he thought he was the best guitarist in rock today, and he said " I don't know, better ask Alex Lifeson" mad compliment since he was the media darling at the time
He's just overshadowed by the best drummer and best bassist ever - they're the f---ing best triumvirant
Agreed my Two Favorite's Hendrix & Lifeson. Great minds and imaginations make great Music.
I do think it's about time you guys start exploring into later 80's Rush. Distant Early Warning is a great one I feel you guys will enjoy
I hope the next piece of music you listen to by RUSH is Cygnus X-1 book 1 and book 2.
I think listening to them back to back would be great.
Oh, and I LOVED your reaction and review of this cool piece of music.
Cygnus X-1: Book 1's ending is Peart's most intense drumming ever, IMO.
@@d0ublestr0ker0ll and that bass riff is so much fun
Great choice guys. Doing a fine job of working your way through Rush. As always, requesting more YES! Yours is no disgrace would be a good choice.
One of my favourite rush songs glad you guys liked it
Have loved this song since it first came out, so happy to see you two enjoying it as well. I think Andy went off to the lands of the Necromancer, he was totally lost in the sauce LOL
I, for one, was there with him.
Ok, doing albums? Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres. When you complete those albums fully, you are well on your way to being who WE would call a real RUSH fans. Peace, Phil
philip grossman agreed. I have also suggested you guys simply do Cygnus X1: Books I & II (which are the end and beginning of these albums)
100% agreed! Listening to "Farewell to Kings" from beginning to end it's an amazing musical excursion. In my opinion, the most cohesive album; musicality, tone, lyricism... a true masterpiece.
They already Real RUSH fans. Done a LOT of their stuff. But they need to do all of CARESS of STEEL. Especially side two of the album and listen to "The Fountain of Lamneth" is their 2nd longest song and is their 1st side long "Concept song" . Six parts. The precursor to 2112, which they've done. And some of Neil's best drum work imo. The whole album really is an album of "deep cuts". Bastille Day really kicks ass as well and Lakeside Park is about a park that Neil used to go to as a kid. Then there's "I Think I'm Going Bald", good rocking tune about hair loss of all things, lol. If you're listening to deep cuts and enjoying them, you're a real fan. I was 13 when this came out in 1975. First heard it in 1976. Talk about going WOW. The Necromancer became one of my top 5 RUSH favorites and the album my 2nd favorite.
ruclips.net/video/MrqwZD7jMqI/видео.html
philip grossman remember, real Rush fans like all their albums.
Joe Schmoe , no kidding man just guiding the newbies one step at a time.
Yes! Thanks for doing this one guys!
Awesome guys !!
Do “The Fountain of Lamneth”
My Favorite!!!!❤️❤️
Yes! This is the one you want to do next.
BTW that’s Neil talking in the beginning
Many would argue that "Hemispheres" is Rush's best album, and I'm inclined to agree. You've already done "The Trees" and "La Villa Strangiato" so you may as well jump in the deep end and do "Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres". Unless you want to do "Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage" from A Farewell to Kings first.
Hemispheres to me is their crescendo. 18 minutes of sauce, like others have mentioned should do Cygnus book 1 (last song off Farwell to Kings) 1st.
Rush’s The Pass from the Presto Album... great song!
By far one of my top 10 favorite reactions ♡
Anthem. Banger. ❤🎵
That's Prince By tor. Lol. So glad you guys finally got to this awesome tune. I gotta say it, please do Fountain of Lamneth next. From same lp. You guys really get it. That's what's special. Great review. Andy is right. Dim lit room at night with headphones on. How I spent the late seventies and early eighties nights. They cant all be A +. A- is cool with me.
Didn't hurt to have a few puffs before puttin' them headphones on, either! ;)
@@charliemac64 that was when we got Acapulco gold around here. Shit would just creep up on ya after bout 15 minutes and I swear still the best buzz weed ever got me.

You guys need to Start the story of CYGNUS X1 Book 1 The Voyage which ends A farewell to Kings album and then carries on the Hemispheres Book 2 album Should be listened one after the other
MANHATTENMAN ! YES! 🙏
Cinderella Man from Farewell to Kings is also a hidden gem.
Rush'd again...always great to hear anything from them! Please review Marathon next and keep on rockin'! 🤘
'Caress Of Steel' is meant to be played in it's entirety! Each song and part intertwines perfectly with the whole. Rush showed immense creativity and originality with this early 'experimental' album, and it was a glimpse of big things to come from them!
Hell, just do “Fly By Night”, still great roots Rush . I think you need it .
And A Farewell to Kings
Yeah Fly by Night another good choice also Red Alert and Working Man. Red Alert is a warning for us all to stop destroying the world very true today and into our future.
Another Great Canadian Trio. TRIUMPH. Check them out.
When they mention Willowdale at the beginning it is not a random name they came up with...Willowdale is an area in Toronto. I lived there from 1995 until 2000.
Todd Kelly i was born and grew up in Willowdale 😃
Geddy lived in Willowdale, sounds like a Twilight Zone town eh?
@@uncletom618 Nope, it's just a boring suburb. But maybe that's the same thing...
Yeah I think they Are from that area
Also sounds like Lakeside Park another real area that the have been hanging around in their youth
Lord of the rings guys middle earth
apparently they were quite high at times while recording this album; nonetheless, a highly under rated and under appreciated recording, I personally put it in my top three, along with A Farewell to KIngs and Hemisphere.
Fortunately not so high as to have been baked and not able to create this masterpiece.
Those drums stopping and going in the middle put me on the edge of my chair.
I can't comment. I'm still grieving for Neil Peart.
Missy Frye I’m right here with ya.
@@EvonZundel me too :(
"Jacob's Ladder" by Rush
Camera Eye too!
Great album and one of the best tunes from Power Trio! Rest in Power "Professor"!
yeah this a epic track .for me it fuses Lord of the RIngs (Necromancer) and Rush getting back at their record label at the time, the 3 men of willowdale (the members).plus willowdale is in around where they grew up! and yes Byt or was mentioned.see these 70s groups had connected audio universes .just cross eyed mary and aqualung! great stuff guys
This is one of their underrated albums, it holds up pretty well with time
I still can't hear these songs without crying. RIP.
It is quite sad, indeed. Love you expressing your feelings. It will get easier to celebrate the gift of music left behind. Take care, paravarium.

Listened to "Jaws". Ooooh. I can see why you've been obsessing! The lyrics and atmosphere created... So beautiful. I'm hooked and can absolutely relate to what is being conveyed. This is a single and not part of an album, correct? I need to dig further into "who" is this group and other albums. Thank you for sharing!! Have a great day. :))
@@lisaw5604 Had no doubts you love Jaws :) yeah it was just released as a single, then they have two other short eps, and just released their first full length a couple of months ago. Everything is so good! A song like Nazareth i thought was decent but the last two days it's just grown so much. Levitate and Dark Signs were huge growers too. The night does not belong to god, the offering, sugar were all instant loves. Higher is my favorite by them for sure.
Love me some RUSH!! Way to go A & A!!! Great song and reaction. Camera Eye Should be next!!!🤘
The first 3 or 4 minutes have always reminded me of Pink Floyd, pretty cool. For more deep cuts try Fountains of Lamneth or Cygnus X Books 1 and 2. Even more epic!
I Hear "Have A Cigar".
Agreed. David Gilmore would dig it.
Dude the radio songs are the pretty face and this is the personality!!! Mind Blown. Perfectly said. I will say that out of their entire catalog Caress of Steel had been known to some as the least popular. The critics hated it and it didn't sell very well which prompted the record company to tell them to not write like this anymore. This is the album where they really started experimenting and finding their sound with Neil. It was a necessary album that shows the natural progression of where they would ultimately end up. They started in Fly by night and really pushed the boundaries on this one. Just remember 2112 would be the next album. 2112 was them giving the finger to the record company and continuing to do what they wanted. If it wasn't for this album they may not have been pushed or inspired to give us the Epic 2112. As a Rush fan I still love this album personally just saying it wasn't at the level of the previous Fly by Night or anything that would follow after. Totally agree with your ratings. Still top notch musicianship, but compared to Hemispheres? Not even close. You should really do Hemispheres! As always you both are on point!
This album gets so little love. Nice to see so many others here who also love it.
This is Rush’s first foray into an Epic style song....give them a break...1970’s!
For that time it was incredible....still is......A++++++++++++!!!
I would’ve probably put By-Tor and the Snow Dog as their first foray into that.
Now that you've done this one, you gotta do Fountain of Lamneth. Caress of Steel is one of my favorite albums because of these songs.
I knew you guys would like it! I was actually listening to this song on my way to class when I saw that you uploaded this video lmao. Caress of Steel is such an underrated album, check out The Fountain of Lamneth as well from the same album.
Great song breakdown by both Andy & Alex this week 🤘🏼 “The Necromancer” is truly another epic tale by RUSH. It’s not an everyday spin for me but definitely a treat when it’s time. A-
Whenever someone says that studio headphones makes a big difference in sound, I never believed them. That is until I got a pair, and omg it sounds so much better. This is one of my favorite Rush songs and there’s so many small details you can hear that you wouldn’t with normal headphones and it made the song feel more new after hearing 1000 times. The next songs you should check out from Rush are The Camera Eye (very underrated song from moving pictures with a great guitar solo at the end) Losing It from Signals, a very good song to listen to when you’re baked, and Open Secrets from Hold Your Fire, and has imo one of Alex’s best guitar solos. Btw love the channel I’ve prob watched about every 60s-80s rock video and shits gas
"Still with us, buddy?" You guys are so cute.

The groove that starts at 5:00 is NASTY. React to CYGNUS X-1!!!!!!!!
Cygnus X1 and Hemispheres Part 2 as a double header would be good next guys. Awesome as always
Wow, you guys are really going down the rabbit hole...great piece of work from one of the 🐐s!
Narration done by the late great Neil Peart...finally ...thanks guys!!.....hey what kind of whiskey you drinkin ? I agree the ending needed some more vocals and a better completion ....they were about your age when they cut this still learning their writing chops, I remember Alex said they played “Caress of Steel” for Paul Stanley of KISS , and he didn’t get it....and Alex said I’m not sure if we got it ...I think they were figuring things out and put it altogether for their masterpiece 2112, their next album
I do love Caress of Steel, it showed what Rush would become a bit. But it definately shows youthful growing pains. They got so much better in transitions. 2112 began to show it there
My favourite albums by Rush bring back so many memories from back in the day. This album played at every party I went to when I was a kid if it was a house party or a party in the woods great album. Heres another band you guys really need to check out Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush another great band out of Canada. Very underrated band and Frank Marino is one of the most underrated guitar players EVER
Just love that last part, all the 4 guitares during the solo, great!
I can’t believe no one has requested Closer To The Heart off Farewell To Kings! Great album. Xanadu is on it.
Thanks for doing this song! It's been a while since I last listened to it!
Rush???....I'm here!!!🇧🇷🇧🇷❤
I remember as a young man buying these early Rush albums and there was such anticipation when you put the needle in the groove because you never knew what to expect. I mean this track ..who would think it would start with a spoken introduction. Rush were truly a unique group of 3 masters of their craft. I doubt there will ever be anyone like them.
Took the words out of my mouth.
Cops at the scene of a late night accident: So, what happened exactly?
Driver: Well, I was listening to Rush's The Necromancer . . .
Cops: Say no more.
RUSH Warping teenage minds since ‘73!
Finally!!!
One of my personal favorite
I've been waiting for this one for a while and you didn't disappoint! Totally lost in the sauce for most of it which is how it was meant to be. Rock on!
love you guys. my favorite reactors, keep it up. 2112 side 2
The whole song is amazing, and I agree the " victory" section at the end is one of the most moving and satisfying of any song I've heard.
I'll sub for that.
This song is as mysterious, heavy, and haunting as the album cover.
You gotta love how it flows from side to side, feels like it's moving through your brain...
There are many theories as to why/how By-Tor went from the villain in "By-Tor and the Snowdog" to the hero in "The Necromancer". My theory is weed based.
guys,I watch you experience this,& I remember exactly where I was over 40 years ago when I first heard ,& was blown away by it. It only gets better through time.
Love that you guys are going deep! The entire RUSH catalog has a lot to teach us. They were clean and masterful!
I'm still waiting to see you guys react to OZZY solo stuff. Randy Rhoads is one of the best guitarists of all time and OZZY, well ya know Sabbath. Check out Flying High Again!
I can sing along to this. 45 years karaoke! It’s a beautiful thing.
OMG, thank you.
Enjoying your "Rush" rabbit hole adventures. Had to say I jumped over on my Spoofy account and listened to your "Feel the Love" song. Could not get that bass line out of my head. That crunchy bass line had a "Fleetwood Mac" feel to it. Thank you ;-)
Now that Neil's gone, all these more obscure pieces start seeing the light of day.
"The shadow of his nearness weighs like iron tears" - Neil Peart lyric from "The Necromancer"
This song for me shows how the vocals are used as the music to lead up to the verse which is the guitar solo. Alex’s solo at times has similar up-and-down inflections like someone speaking as if confirming what the lyrics said. I’m so glad you got to this album. For some reason unbeknownst to me it seems to get left out when talking of Rush. That last little ending bit that repeated three or four times had so much emotion in it. It was the story’s danouemen. Fading out saying it’s all done we’re going home we’re going home. And that my friends is how you make almost 15 minutes of engaging, dripping with talent music.
I REMEMBER SUGGESTING THIS! :)
The whole Hemispheres album is the one you wake up and say "Did I just dream that?"
They already did Strangiato and maybe The Trees if I remember right.
I loved the bass riff playing in the background while the guitar solo was happening! It was really groovy! But, I thought the lead singer was amazing, I forgot how good of a singer he was because it's been a while since I listened to Rush! This felt like three songs into one because there were so many mood and tempo changes going on, it's crazy!!! I thought the drum pauses with the guitar was a nice touch and it's that excitement of not knowing how long it's going to continue! But yeah, great song and great reaction video! Have a lovely rest of your day Andy and Alex!! :)
When Rush were recording this album they took a night off to go see Yes on their Relayer tour. They said they were so blown away by Yes that they did not want to finish this album. If you want to know what they were talking about then you need to react to the LIVE version of "The Gates Of Delirium" from the YesShows album. This is the definitive version of "The Gates Of Delirium". It MUST be the YesShows live album version. Big boy pants time.
Also recommend "Yours Is No Disgrace" from The Yes Album.
Oh, and way to dive deep with The Necromancer.
Holy Crap, that was incredible
Mark Jacobsen
I am still waiting for them to do "Close to the Edge." That song should come first before they advance to reviewing "Gates of Delirium." Unfortunately and much to their loss, I think Andy and Alex completely wrote off the music of Yes after they had such a negative listener reaction to the slick, radio-friendly, 80's Rabin-era version of the band when they did their review for the song "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Classic Yes with Steve Howe on guitar (1971-1980) is where it is at, guys. Give the band another chance by sampling some more of their great tracks.
@@Daniel-415-Ponce Close to the Edge, imo, is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. Some say Gates is their best. I say Close is, but both are amazing. Yes, I hope they review Close to the Edge. They will never be the same, if they do : )
@@Daniel-415-Ponce I fully agree with you, and in fact have suggested more accessible YES tracks from TYA, Fragile, and CTTE in other reactions they have posted. I am also aware of their seemingly writing off YES because of their mistake to review the less than mind blowing song "Owner Of A Lonely Heart". They did ask for suggestions on more prog YES at the time, but have sadly ignored them, and like you said - much to their loss.
As for my suggestion here for the live "Gates...", it was just so perfect to do since they reacted to a Caress Of Steel song, due to RUSH having shared that story about not wanting to finish CoS after seeing YES at that time (1975 - Relayer tour). Really, I was just planting a seed, because I know there are far more requests for Yours Is No Disgrace, Heart Of The Sunrise, Starship Trooper, etc. So, I would be surprised if they actually reacted to the live Gates before any of those. BUT, I do hope they get to it eventually, and as I have watched other reactions of theirs I think they may actually be ready for it now. Still, they should probably work themselves up to it with the other aforementioned songs.
@@Lightmane CTTE and Awaken are tied for the best Yes song, in my opinion. And let's hope they get to them sooner or later.
Hey Andy and Alex, my son told me about you guys and I have enjoyed listening to many of my favorite bands from the 70s-80s, most of them I've seen live many times. He is currently a Junior in mechanical engineering and also a great drummer. The best thing is he loves Rush, Boston, etc... so glad he told me about your channel. Anyway, I know back in the day over a year ago Andy did a solo Rush "Working Man" video, one of my favorites. Would love to see you do a retake with Alex. Camera Eye from Moving Pictures is also a good one. Cheers brothers and keep up what your doing!
