Great explanation! The one nuance I would offer is that after the initial light, I do not tamp with the same pressure as the final packing ramp. Once fire touches the tobacco, it is just about flattening the stray strands and ash so the ember stays together and doesn’t burn itself out after each additional light.
You explained this perfectly, exactly how I do it and get a great smoke every time!
Glad to hear it!
My biggest problem is keeping it lit. I have a sneaking suspcion it was my pace. I packed my pipe the same way and used the pinch method of testing moisture to be sure I wasnt boning that up. I mainly used wardens. Always interested in trying different things. Appreciate the video Wilson.
Genius! Best way i seen demonstrate how hard you press it down. Just say you should pack or press first layer softly dont mean duck if you dont have or give any references point. From now i gonna call this way, Marshmallows packing!
Thanks🔥
Hi Wilson, I’m just now seeing this video, I’ve been very busy lately. That was me that sent you the Festivus blend last year around Christmas. I’m glad you’re enjoying it, I smoked a bowl of it a few nights ago as well. Great video as always, take care!!
Thank you my friend! I'm grateful for the gift!
Wife ordered me a vintage Missouri cob pipe today for my first pipe glad I found your channel to learn. Also cool u do theology videos :)
Congrats man!
Excellent, excellent vid SP. Thanks a lot. Have a great week-end.
My pleasure and you too!
… my “ah-ha” moment came watching Per George Jensen explaining how to pack a pipe, for some reason the 3-step method just wasn’t gelling in my brain until I watched him, now I watch videos like yours and figuratively smack my forehead going “of course !!” … but i tend to over think everything I do
Good review, for all pipe smokers! Thanks for sharing!
You bet!
Great video. Thanks
Stuff it and Puff it 101. Great video brother
glad to see you use the micron pens! Thanks for the video Wilson!
Good eye! Yes, I've bought several packs of em. My go-to for note taking in Bible and books.
Hello Reformed Bro! I'm also a piper: not just the smoking kind, but also the cat-strangling kind.
Great video! You explained it perfectly! Looking forward to more tutorials
Thank you Tom!

I'm here for the debate about the density of different marshmallows :)
😂
Very helpful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video..interesting.cheers
Thanks Matt
Great tutorial, thanks. I am new to pipes and still trying different pipes and tabacco. Question, how damp/moist should the tabacco be? Thanks
Glad to hear it Ralph. Quick answer- pinch a bit of it between your fingers. If it sounds crackly, like crunching leaves, it's too dry.
If you you pinch some together and it stays together, it is too wet.
That is a quick guide. I'll try to cover a video on it in the near future.
@@TheSpurgeonPiper thanks for the reply. Great advice, I thought I might be smoking too wet tobacco.

Hey!
I'm new to the hobby and I've been struggling recently with keeping my pipe lit. Either the tobacco seems to burn out way to quickly or it doesn't stay lit. Any advice guys?
Do you have any resistance to the draw? When I pack like this I feel there is zero resistance, and maybe that is correct. Just checking. I feel like I am continually going out if my cadence isn’t pretty fast and therefore it starts tasting ashy. I don’t feel like I can pack it any lighter. Thoughts?
That is something I wished I thought of covering in the vid. Your draw should feel like your sucking water/soda out of a straw, so no empty but not like a milkshake.
Sounds like you are packing it too light. But that is ok! Keep at it!
Do you keep tamping down as you smoke? Or just the first time?
As you keep smoking
