What do you think?! Which is the best way to go... in terms of exciting content and lap times!
Did you see DDE is selling their 2 GT race cars ? Think about it.
Might as well get a Volkswagon
Gt350r
Totally depends on your intentions. If you want to do wheel-to-wheel racing go with the Dark Horse R. Its a turn-key race car and has everything you need to go race day 1. If you just want to have some fun and do track days here and there, build a Mustang however you desire. You can even do time trial in that and be competitive.
The moment you go full race car though (talking full roll cage, fire suppression etc) you can't really come back from those mods and return to stock and you might as well have just bought the Dark Horse R to begin with. Not to mention all the factory support you'll get with the R.
At the end of the day what are your intentions with the car? If you don't plan on racing I'd build. If you do want to race then buy, you can even scoop a used race car from sites like bring a trailer though I'd personally feel more comfortable buying new from Multimatic to go racing.
I think building out a Dark Horse would be better and here is why. You can do a a base line run and then do step by step modification process which can show what works and what is just hype. It is great for content as well. Also, buying the pre-done race car is sort of like buying a lower level GTD. Kind of repetitive. You can also compare your finished product against the GTD, cause we know your getting one. Be a nice product and price comparison.
He doesn’t mod cars. Ever.
He may not mod them himself, but he could have it done.
Personally, I believe more people are attracted to the dark horse because it’s more affordable. Therefore people will be more interested in watching the content vs really high end cars that is way out of the budget. Make some mods, and give a wider audience your thoughts and of course drive that thing 😅
@@johnrocksvold9105 he’s never had it done. All the cars he’s had and he’s never had any of them modded. I think he’s just talking to talk. I’d highly doubt he’ll buy something and kill the warranty
Just get a shelby gt350r
Built not bought is always more rewarding, provides great content and give you a chance to see what works and what doesn’t.
That’s my vote.
The average owner has to worry about warranty. You modify a vehicle too much and start having issues, you are most likely going to be on the hook for repairs. Sometimes there is something to be said about getting a production car that is already all set up for the track and not having to worry about being out of pocket if/when something breaks.
My opinion, I think it would be awesome to get the Dark Horse with the Ford Performance installed Whipple package. Add whatever the aftermarket can provide and see what that would be able to do when stacked against a GT500 or your old GT350. If you wanted to spend the money, go all out on the Dark Horse, get the carbon rims and the matte wrap.
Mach 1 have all the goodies from both generations
Because of production constraints there are always compromises. Aftermarket, shocks, headers, cat back, wheels and brakes for example when added can make such a phenomenal difference.
Aftermarket seemingly has such a large bandwidth.. You can get away with such powerful upgrades which would not be allowed from the factory. I often see builds with massive front splitters, wings, and more! Just look at global time attack
I'm so excited to see that new GTD racing around the track
I'm glad you feel the same way! Can't wait to put it against the GT500 Track Pack to see how much faster it is too!
if people have the means then go for a bought car and have fun. For me there is something freeing about building a car from the ground up with the mindset it's a dedicated racecar. no payments, no worries if something breaks. Would love to see you do a build series on something like an older s550 GT. Start out stock and keep building it step by step till it's an ultimate track weapon. Maybe building your own GT500
I find both built and bought interesting for different reasons. Build one if that's what you like or if you want to build those skills and have a personal investment into your vehicle. Buy it if you don't have the time or inclination to build, but you have the money. It's like asking someone how to live life. Live it how you want, not based on other peoples thoughts.
For you, it'd seem that building would give additional content to intersperse with your bought content. So a win-win the way I see it.
Darkhorse R is right up your alley...!!👍
Mach 1! Great platform and you don't see much dedicated track coverage on it. Plus it's tunable if you want to go that route
Speed Phenom Great Video I think it would be awesome to see a Dark Horse track build on the channel along side your possibly upcoming GTD so you'll two different forms of Mustang track content like you did before
I would go with a Dark horse R , in fact I have inquired with multimatic about getting one , just glad I did not give them any deposit money as there not getting many of them out . I have a 21 mach 1 that I added a back roll bar, 6 point belts , and seats , its getting close to being none street legal but don't think I can do it . And as far as building out a car you need a place to keep all the take off stuff , and lots of time , and I don't think it would be as safe as a race car dark horse R comes with fire suppression, full cage , and really cool camber adjustability.
My thoughts anyway 😊
I'm a huge fan! I'm building my 2021 gt500 track pack. Rollcage and all. Recaro podium red.....and so much more....I was at the same fork in the road. Either get a reckless driving charge or track car only. So much sexier!!! So I'm choosing track car. I think do the car that you love and make it in race car
Austin, you rock! Congratulations on your graduation! Peace
Just get a base GT with Performance Pack so you can get the additional cooling and better rear diff. That way you can upgrade swaybars and coilivers to your liking along with wheels/tires. You will save money and weight while having the track weapon dialed in the way you want.
Build the Darkhorse.
I think if you are to build a Mustang, get the cheapest lowest spec. The Dark Horse's suspension cannot be as good as the best after-market setup. For example, you don't want to pay a premium for a car to just change out its high-end factory suspension that you've paid top $ for. The only issue with a base GT I guess it doesn't come with a Tremec which I'm sure you want as I gather, you're only into circuit stuff and not straightline. But maybe you can put a Tremec or another awesome track manual transmission in a base GT aftermarket and still come out on top in terms of overall $.
I CAN'T WAIT,,,TO SEE WHAT YOU DECIDE TO GET,,,,✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
I say buy what ever is quicker to actually get to the track
Whatever Mustang you get send it to Fathouse to modify it. Their work is incredible, check out the Code Red Mustang they did, beautiful machine.
You guys haven’t been following. He doesn’t mod cars
More fun/interesting: Build a Darkhorse
More economical: Buy a Darkhorse R
Boss 302 Race Car
GT350 and go nuts with it!!
Mach 1 or Dark Horse
Gosh... I really do love the Mach 1! The Mach 1 is lighter too... Which do you think?
Get the stock mustang and put go fast parts in it
Just got a 2023 Mach 1 w/ the HP with only 3K miles on it. Probably saved $20K over a comparatively equipped Dark Horse. AND the DH is going up in price again for 2025. It's not about how much it is, it's about what you're getting for the price. Imo you're not getting much of anything in a Dark Horse over a Mach 1.
Drag times already got his gtd allocation. You get one?
Dealer option.... You can put a Whipple on a Mustang.
Go To the parts department. And look under Ford motorsports catalog.😊😊😅
Buy a dark horse and have the dealer install the ford performance whipple. They are saying 810hp without voiding the factory warranty.
Really?? I did not know about that one! Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to research that!
Gt350 lemons
Just first 4 yrs 😂
Factory race dark horse!
GT-500 is the closest to the GTD we've got right now that's not $300k and can easy be modded to make reliable 800+ RWHP and would surely run a circle around any darkhorse model...
...SpeedPhenom...love the channel, but were you drinking before this video recording? If not, my bad & apologies... Just worried about ya bud!
The GT500 isn't even close to the GTD. ..LOL
Adding 300 hp to a GT500 doesn't mean it would come close to the GTD on a track. Your kidding. Lol
I would build out a dark horse. I can’t see spending over $150k on a mustang. Boy times have changed. I have a blast with my STI on laguna and all I have done is better pads and brake fluid. Not the fastest at all but damn I have some fun!
Times have changed, cuz they never made factory track-ready cars in the past. It's not 150k for a mustang. It's 150k for a factory built track ready monster.
I have many friends who run Civic Type-Rs, BRZs, Toyota 86s, and more. They always tell me how much fun it is to track their cars! Consumables costs are seemingly way lower too. Thank you for your feedback!
Or the new gt500
GT500 Track Pack
$146k DHR
Shelby snake price😢
Dark Horse I think Justin 👍🏽
Gt350
I think the GT350 may be my all-time favorite Mustang... I love it! :)
@@SpeedPhenommake sure you get a 2019 lol. That’s the only year that didn’t have a recall 😅
Just get a shelby gt350R and forget the dark horse
The real problem here is these cars - although these look and sound wonderful - are being out gunned by the POS electric cars like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N. It's a terrible thing but as real as Mac and Cheese.
GT350R suspension, okay, but not great. My Z28 is so much better without any modification. Ford is so far behind on making a production race ready, Mustang. The dark horse has 500hp nothing special. A gt350 better bang for your buck, but still a lacking race suspension. I blame Ford for not updating the suspension technology. If you want something better, you have to build.
Awesome to hear about your Z28! I don't see those very often anymore. Do you still run the carbon ceramics? The GT350 is an amazing bang for your buck... 526 horsepower and starting at less than 50,000 dollars a few years back! Thx for your feedback.
@SpeedPhenom Yes, it does have carbon ceramics, but it does not stop as good as the GT350R, which is surprising. I have a lot more confidence in a corner with the Z28. The GT350R suspension gets a little mushy in the corners. GM's suspension has better geometry, giving a lot better feel. With the GT350, I tightened up the rear suspension and added adjustable camber and anti hop bars. The car does carve but could use stiffer shocks. I hope you get the GTD. It will be one hell of a car!
Whatever mustang u get dont get that gay ass automatic
Dark Horse R 🔥🔥🔥
