⛵️The WORST part of living on a SAILBOAT Ep.288

- We sailed from Guadaloupe to Antigua in the Caribbean, a place with soooo many super yachts and different boats. It was amazing to see all these incredible boats.

We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it www.oddlifecra...
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

I would never have one, hehe
Such a nice place.

Cool, come to Holland😊
😊 we have been to Holland last year. We are going back in November ☺️
Love it y'all! The family your traveling kind of together is so cute. But breaks my heart at the same time! Y'all are so good!! Love visiting UNESCO sites. I cant count how many ive seen. I like ODD better than all the Super Yachts. There is heart in ODD! The others may have fancy things, but ODD has LOVE from bow to stern and keel to top of the mast!!❤❤ 💥❤️🇺🇸🇧🇷⛵️👣😊
😊⛵️💕
Another great video. I am seeing such amazing things. Thank you so much for sharing all this with us. Odd is a beautiful boat and a credit to your hard work over the years. I look forward to your videos every week. Keep well and safe. James.

Enjoyed your channel! Just Subscribed.I’m trying to convince my wife that a circumnavigation is a great retirement project and went so far as to even start a little channel (@NavalGazingatCampDavid) to sell her on the life style….desperate times and all that. Lol. Thanks again for the great content. I have a whoooole new appreciation for the time and care it takes to create these episodes!
You guys already have a super yacht, since you are super nice people.
😁

The way those children are loving on Duca you should wonder how long before he becomes papa... Be safe out there sailing friends... Peace...
Sunday is Odd Life Day. I hope you will get a chance to stop by Anguilla on one of your adventures. This is old Caribbean at its best. Some of the greatest beaches in the world.
You always get a good wind for sailing in the Caribbean.
Stay well, be safe and sail on.
It’s so wonderful to see you enjoying your dream. Envy and love.
💕
scrubbing the bottom is tough, but the speed while sailing is improved ⛵
And Odd looks nicer.😘👌
great update 2x👍
We just had the Tall Ships Race calling into our local harbour, the boats look fantastic under full sail.
😎🥰⛵️
I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A SAILBOAT,MAKES ME CURIOUS WAT THE INTERIOR LOOKS LIKE.BTW, I'M NOT YELLING @ U2,HAD EYE SURG.& HARD 2C😀
You got me curious as well 😁 www.starclippers.com/eu/explore/virtual-tours/royal-clipper-virtual-tour.html
Ya Folks need a Water-maker & avoid the worry😜 Continue to Stay Safe and Enjoy😎
It’s on the list of things to install for sure
In March my wife and I spent a week in the forest near English Harbor ate at the Pillars Restaurant and then spent 2 weeks on the island of Montserrat. Antigua is beautiful, but to many people. Montserrat is absolutely beautiful and quiet!
It's indeed a busy place. I think the best option to be around Antigua is on a boat
Adorei vocês dançando no barco💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻…
😊😊💕
The Star Clipper ships are a Cruise line . As a booked passenger, you can just relax and enjoy the cruise or you can participate in the actual work of sailing . Magnificent ships and a magical opportunity to experience the glorious days of old .
Thanks for the information, we didn’t know that 😊
they do sell a battery operated large rotary brush , Delos has one, they cost about $1300., but I think I remember a clip where he said 1 hour for 53 ft boat, nothing for boats is cheap, I hope you get the compressor working cause you waste so much time just getting another breath of air...cheers always love the videos
My favorite ship has 35 sails ! ( Kruzenshtern )
If that's the only thing that's a drawback to living aboard a yacht I think you're doing pretty good lol.
Some of the places you have been visiting are beautiful.
Have fun you guys!
Davis 4400 Scrubbis Underwater Hull Cleaning Kit
Have you tried it?! It seems to be a nice thing. I don’t think it would work for the bottom part of our hull as it would be hard to reach that part
You need some cheap FRS UHF 2 way radios to share with friends when travling together under sail, or in port, or on excursions.
They work great up to about 7miles. Are cheap so if it breaks or gets lost no big deal.
get a cast net catch some bait use that to fish on a smaller hook under slow sailing speed 3.5 knots max. or under a cork in close to shore
❤👍
💕
Duca And Roberta I Think I Have Found Something That Might Interest You. It, Is Called " SPECTRA WATERMAKER". I , Am Sure That They Might Have A System That Would Fit Odd , And You Wouldn't Have To Rely On Rain Much Longer. Love , The Videos.
Bom dia casal!!! Vocês são incríveis, que experiência de vida sensacional! Dúvida, pq atravessar o atlântico e não cruzar o canal do Panamá e rumar para a Polinésia Francesa?
Bom dia! Planos futuros, hehe. Logo logo falaremos do assinto 😉
Just as an aside, I was watching a recording of an Andre Rieu concert from Brazil. Did I see Duca in the audience??
hahaha. No
I recommend a long pole with a scrubbing pad attatched to bottom. Then from dock, its easily accomplished 1 side at a time. I saw a vid.
The problem is that the pad doesn’t take the barnacles out 😬
@@OddLifeCrafting i liked but didnt see your video 😄 but the other person said same 😄 its very effective on the plants if you use a stiff brush. Like for scrubbing cement clean.
In the UK we call them telephone boxes or just phone boxes. In the 80s and 90s many were replaced by vandal proof stainless steel ones.
Quite a few red ones still exist but very few have phones in them. Many now house defibrillators.
Metal haul, you can make a cleaner which will stick to the haul with magnets and randomly orbit scrubbing
An-ti-ga. Learned it properly on a day sail with an An-ti-gan captain.
pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficheiro:En-us-Antigua_and_Barbuda.ogg I'm pretty sure the locals say Antiga (in Português antiga means old)
@OddLifeCrafting I believe the pronunciation gradually changed beginning when Antigua went from Spanish to English control.
The Royal Clipper is the worlds largest sailing ship.
It is amazing www.starclippers.com/eu/explore/virtual-tours/royal-clipper-virtual-tour.html
Pretty sure Bezos new sailing yacht is the biggest.
@@jeffatkinson3288 Might have been old wiki article I sourced.
@@Bill23799 well...🤔 Bezos yacht is EXTREMELY new 😉
@@jeffatkinson3288 But Bezos yacht is not a full ship. Royal Clipper is designed after the Preussen, a German full ship from the beginning of the 20th century.
👍👍👍👍🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
👍👍
Ice tea or matte 🦁? That’s the real question 🤣🤣
Iced matte tea 😁
In most ways, ODD is the most beautiful boat in this episode! Except it doesn't have a washing machine...
It's always something. 😊
Cheers from Alaska
PS I wonder if ODD's bottom paint is getting old? It seems like a high quality bottom paint would reduce the need to scrub the bottom so often.
😁 there are some places on the bottom that we already can see the primer, the paint is off. We have a hard paint, so we need to scrub the hull from time to time to clean it
The Caribbeans islands have so many tourism that is not fish enough to resist c shiny boats.
Bottom cleaning is a job but it’s not the worst. There are other jobs that are much more unpleasant.
🇹🇷👍👍👍
👍👍
25 main sails, and 10-11 jibs , that a lot of canvas to haul out and up. Back when ships were wood, and the men were iron.
😬⛵️
You all are great, thanks for sharing. A sude question, why don't you hang your dingy off that great arch?
We tried ruclips.net/video/l4dmUalz1QM/видео.html the arch is too weak to hold the weight, we would need to replace the arch
@@OddLifeCrafting thanks for catching me up. Have a beautiful week.
Didn't you guys have an electric underwater cleaning disk for your boat? If not such a thing exists. What you really need is an underwater Roomba - with yours it could use magnets to stick to the hull. I have something like it that cleans the bottom of my swimming pool and it uses suction to climb up the walls. I'm sure it could be modified for a boat.
So when are you getting a water maker? Can't imagine not having one in this day and age. Just revisiting the subject.
Future plans 😁
I know its a pain - but you really should take the motor off if you are going to tow the dinghy - way to easy to flip over with a bad wave and all that weight
I found a solution to never cleaning my hull again. I call Blind Gator Hull Diving here in South Carolina, USA. He keeps my bottom clean and replaces anodes as needed.
Glad you found a solution 😁
Why don't you get a tea jug and tea bag's and make sun tea while sailing or anchored. Beautiful area be safe stay healthy.
We do, but it’s not the same taste 😬
A few years ago we were chatting with some crew from one of the large yachts which was berthed in Capri, Italy. The cost was $5000 euros/night. Yikes!!
😬⛵️
The Royal Clipper has 26 square sails and 16 schratsails. 227 passengers and 106 crew. Such a cool ship, designed after the Preussen, a German full ship from the beginning of the 20th century!
Locals pronounce it "Antiga" . One of the key destinations in the Caribbean when coming from Europe. When you are returning to Europe is better to sail more Northeast like to the US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico and then head North west to the Bahamas and Bermuda. I visited English Harbour many times.
Yes, They call those winds, "Los Vientos alisios" Trade winds.
There is a route to go to Azores leaving from Antigua.
@@OddLifeCrafting I know that. I sailed those waters for more than 30 years. What I said was that it was "better" to go the route through the Bahamas and Bermuda. If you go the Antigua route you would miss the rest of the Caribbean and my beautiful homeland of Puerto Rico.
may i give a suggestion . some walkie talkies for you and your freind that travels with you would be a good thing. you guys could talk to eachother with ease and mabey a mile apart. just a suggestion
As I've said before on a previous video.....next time USE PETITE TRINIDAD BOTTOM PAINT! You'll be happy with it's performance.
They don’t suggest to use it on steel boats 😔
@@OddLifeCrafting That's what barrier coats are for.....
I am beginning to think that you will never cross an ocean.
Do you treat coppercoat under the ship, which saves fouling on the boat, so little maintenance. Live your dream....
We have a steel boat and we don’t trust to have copper on the bottom as it can reacts with steel 😉
You would think there was a roomba like robot with magnetic feet that could do that...
Let us know if you find it 😁
@@OddLifeCrafting ruclips.net/video/VJrprjETAfA/видео.html
they do exist, seems expensive though since it's basically a ROV.
Nemo hull cleaner and YachtGrabber much faster.
It doesn’t take the barnacles out 😬
I bet a cheaper store inland more
Correction, $1US = $2.7EC
Ups 😬
At 12:24 You can see a sign that says "Los Cabrones" I think it's a bar. and from the name, the owners have to be Puerto Rican. They won't allowed a bar named Los Cabrones here in Puerto Rico.
🤷🏼♀️😁
After a couple of years waiting to see you splash Odd, I hope we don't have to wait another year to see you cross the Atlantic, but I know you have to go where the weather lets you.
Stupid question from a novice, doesn't your antifoul keep the hull clean?
As a Brit, the only point of sailing somewhere is to occupy that country. Caribbean, already colonised most of those countries, so no point in visiting.
