Maddie. As a retired science teacher, I found your video excellent. It explained everything I wanted to know about the types of honeybees in a hive. That said, it raises a question. If most bees are solitary, how do they reproduce? Without a hive, a queen, workers, nectar, food, etc., where do the larva - pupa - hatched bees come from? If you've made a video about this, please give me its name here. Thanks

7:01 "At the height of summer she [the queen bee] can lay up to 2000 eggs a day." Yikes, that's a lot of eggs!
Let's see: 24 hours a day multiplied by 60 minutes in an hour multiplied by 60 seconds in a minute is equal to 86,400 seconds in a day; and divide that by 2000 eggs laid in a day, and that equals to the average of one egg being laid by the queen every 43.2 seconds. Now that is a BUSY BEE!
And yes, I did come over to watch Maddie's video via the link from Matt's video " Why Do Bees Make Rhombic Dodecahedrons?" at his Stand Up Maths channel.

Correction: I just watched another of Maddie's videos called "Honeycomb Under a Microscope" and at the 29th second of the second minute, Maddie says: "In the spring, she [the queen bee] can lay one egg every 20 seconds. That's 2000 eggs a day." So THAT answers my other question: Does the queen bee sleep? So according to the math, if she actually lays one egg every 20 seconds, then that means that she spends 40,000 seconds a day laying eggs and can rest for the remaining 46,400 seconds of that day.

Nice. I’ve seen the black honey bees at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Are these a subspecies of Apis mellifera?

Hello. So, if they lay the eggs in the cells, how do you know you're not taking the ones with eggs when collecting honey? Do they only lay eggs at a certain time of year? Also, how many get killed when you are removing and replacing the frames? Thanks. Great videos.
