The Herd of Storms is MOSTLY half-giants like Grog, but they do incorporate some members of other species. The guy you were asking about with the beard is likely a half-orc (hence the shorter, broader frame and the tusks as well as the facial hair).

Grog pointing out that Wilhand was not a fighter - they are very careful that Grog only killed people who attacked him first. And we speculate that little flash of light that caught Grog's attention was from the Everlight, who had originally called Wilhand to her flock years before. She is the goddess of redemption, and may have seen in Grog the chance for his own.
The Herd of Storms isn't just half giants, but humans, orcs, and more. "Moustache" was an orc or half-orc, not unlike Doctor Dranzel.

The Herd of Storms was formed by a core of half-giants but even from the start they would take in anyone who could fight and was willing to take what they wanted by force.
Species or heritage doesn't matter to them, which is why you see half-giants, orcs and half orcs (like 'Moustache'), humans, elves and half elves among their numbers.
Roaming around and taking what they want from those weaker than them by force is pretty much their whole deal; it's their version of a life of freedom.
Kevdak isn't their first leader, but he is one of the strongest they've had. Both because he's unusually big and strong even for a half-giant, but also because he's cunning and ruthless.
Getting the Titanstone Knuckles just made him even more powerful.
It's not brought up in the show, but the reason Kevdak allied the Herd of Storms with Umbrasyl is because he has ambitions to become a warlord, not just a raider. He intends to rule Westruun as a warlord vassal under the Chroma Conclave.
Pike's hair became white/ash-blonde due to trauma/stress much like Percy's hair. Another viewer mentioned exactly how that happened in another comment. :)

    • @caffeinedelusions

It's strange that she knows the spells, has had one cast on her even, but she acted like it never would have occurred to her to try if Kash hadn't taken lead. (it also means they're ignoring that Pike had already cast Revivify on Grog before)

I dont think she was completely unfamiliar, she only said she had never tried it before. Healing and resurrection is more limited in this version of the world, so safe to say Pike _dosent_ know those spells and Grogs death in the Kvarn fight didnt happen in this canon.
I will hazard a guess that shes going to have to finally learn more about those spells next season.....

@@sybariticcupboardrat3763 Show Pike & Campaign Pike are basically two different characters, power-wise. Even in your own comment you acknowledge that Vox Machina had Pike resurrected by an outside party when she died, so why would you think she'd have knowledge on how to perform the ritual? She explicitly states in episode 3 when Kash suggests reviving Vex that she's never tried it before. She's simply casting Cure Wounds and/or Lesser Restoration on Grog here, since he, y'know, wasn't killed.

In the campaign (before the stream), Pike had black hair with a purple streak. She died and was resurrected and her hair turned white. It is also where her scar across her eye came from. Ashley Johnson was not at the table for the Liam and Laura birthday game. She came in later, but that session Travis Willingham (Grog) wasn't able to make it. So her character came into the game looking for Grog who had seemingly got lost. So her backstory got tied in with Grog's. He went to live with Pike and Wilhand.

Originally, Ashley wasn't around for some of the next section and they incorporated her in quite a bit. They also said the tail end of this next season, the amplified from the original so it should be a stronger impact. I don't want to give you any clues to it, but it's allegedly going to be a bigger end than we are thinking. This next season is going to be incredible.

She was away for big sections of seasons 1 and 2 so that shouldnt be much more of a change from what we're now used to.
From the trailer and interviews we can start to see the shape of some specific changes, like the trip to Hell is not only in a differnet location but looks to be happening earlier in the timeline, and Pike seems to be getting a completely new arc involving the mission there.

@@DevilWearsAdidas I mean incorporating Ashley isn't news when its what they've been doing since episode 1, I was just giving more context on why its actually somthing to look forward to. But sure I'll get rid of the rest.

Earlier I made a comment about being upset that you guys said Pike was the one healing Grog when from my perspective the scenes/writing seemed to indicate it was someone earlier in Pike's family line that healed him saying "grandfather" over "great great grandfather" and I was apparently wrong. I wish to apologize for that comment and have since deleted it.
I'm not sure if I'm missing some context or additional scene time from all the cutting that happens in these videos, but to me it seemed like the writers were trying to illustrate that it was two different people and Grog had become attached to Pike as part of becoming a part of her family, not just her, and while that could still be true it was apparently a much more straightforward encounter over what I thought the writing was saying.
Again, I apologize for my original comment regardless of if you saw it or not.
