Oda actually has a quirk side of revealing important characters in the background. To the point some fans to this day theorize he did so with Luffy's mom.

This is concept that ofter goes unnoticed , but is very present and important for the overall story arc. Knowing this dynamic will allow you guys to get a deeper understanding of each move these big players will make in the future.
The live action wasn't sure it was going to be successful and get more than a single season, so they decided to include Garp to flesh out the other characters.
They werent sure they were going to get a season 2 so they spent half the time showing garp and koby playing go in a metal box. I know they were originally promised 10 episodes but the way they handled the actual story is still tragic

I love these reveals, The only thing I'd say is don't focus too much on the emperor's silhouettes, the information is good, but some of the silhouettes are very early designs and do change a little as you continue.
The timeline of one piece is so funny to be because in our world it’s been 25+ years but in universe it’s been only a few months at this point in the story lol. I’m sure you know what I’m referring too but the fact that there’s a future arc that took 2 years to air took place in about a day in universe 😂

Dang, this brings back memories of when you two finished the Live Action and contemplated watching the Anime up until where it caught up. So happy to see that thought short lived.
Its very understandable the change they made, since the reveal of Garp is also the reveal of Dragon. So if the Live Action gets to this arc, it maintains the impact.
Shanks being revealed to be in the top 4 pirates in the entire world, makes the flashback with the mountain bandits great. You now understand why his crew was laughing when Shanks got threatened and got drinks spilled over him, saying "He sure got you good, captain", upon which Shanks also laughs. That adorable little 8 million bounty bandit had no idea he was messing with someone of Shanks' stature.

Giving Garp+Koby stuff in season1 of the live action helped flesh out the world by showing good marines and a bit of the interaction between a Warlord and the Marines. And the scene between Zeff and Garp was just a fun addition.
The reason they're doing that is copyright laws. You basically have to make sure there's more of your own content than the stuff that isn't yours so long dialog between short clips of the show is a way to avoid Copyright strikes.

Just to clarify a bit. The Navy and the Warlords TOGETHER go against the Emperors, who themselves are all against each other. Each of the 3 is one of the 3 Great Powers but peace is only maintained by the Warlords and Navy working together against Emperors that have not joined forces. So this implies a lot about the power structure of the emperors and why the WG is forced to use the warlord system. And like you said, the Navy did not want Shanks and WB meeting on the off chance that they join forces and destabilize the power balance of the world. (Also the 4th emperor is near Garps legs but you have to look at the end of the animation where he’s not as big because he was originally covering up the last emperor)
I absolutely love watching new ppl fall in love with this story. The live action was 100% a success considering I’m watching so many new ppl upload reactions to the anime. The similarities between Roger and the crack head luffy himself never stop.
I like that Luffy *listens* when Robin explains something to him. With everyone else, its usually in one ear and out the other. Kukris are an existing kind of knives/short swords which originate in Nepal. They are most famous for being used by the Gurkhas, an Elite Type of Soldiers which fought in WW2 and still has existing Units in the Indian, Nepalese and British Armies.

This is one of the best episodes of the series because it drops so much crucial info: vice admiral Garp is Luffy's grandfather, Shanks is a pirate emperor, the "training with Ace", Koby is suddenly a competent marine trained by Garp, and Luffy's father is Dragon, the mastermind behind the freaking revolutionary army!
Just a minor detail that u guys must have overlooked. 17:43 Luffy is made of rubber yet the punches he is getting from Garp is giving him pain, which should not be! Another attention to detail that Oda just throw on our face and sometimes we never notice. Anyways the answer for this u will get soon hehe!

Shanks being revealed to be in the top 4 pirates in the entire world, makes the flashback with the mountain bandits great. You now understand why his crew was laughing when Shanks got threatened and got drinks spilled over him, saying "He sure got you good, captain", upon which Shanks also laughs. That adorable little 8 million bounty bandit had no idea he was messing with someone of Shanks' stature.
If you remember on first episode of live action there is scene a man wear a green cloak on roger execution, yes that's Dragon
11:50 I think in an interview it was said that they did it for engament reasoning. Oda was working closely with the producers and had to greenlight everything, if i remember correctly they said this was the one thing that he was really hard to persuade into allowing the reveal this early. i cant remember how they did it tho :D

Oh Shanks is a BIG deal. None of the East blue characters knowing him speaks to how back water that part of the world is. He's the most legendary figure of his generation other than Dragon maybe
Giving Garp+Koby stuff in season1 of the live action helped flesh out the world by showing good marines and a bit of the interaction between a Warlord and the Marines. And the scene between Zeff and Garp was just a fun addition.
I'm glad you two just watch and react rather then the constant pausing and over-analyzing a lot of reactors are starting to do.
The reason they're doing that is copyright laws. You basically have to make sure there's more of your own content than the stuff that isn't yours so long dialog between short clips of the show is a way to avoid Copyright strikes.
Very frustrating when a reactor pauses to go on a 20 minute crackpot theory only for the next 5 seconds after they hit play to make that rant pointless
It's funny how because of the live action people "like" or "know" more Helmeppo, but when I first saw this scene I was like: "who are you? And I hope I never have to see you again" xD
The world building of One Piece is so insane just a mention of Roger's name and interactions makes you excited and really feels he has that legendary status

Luffy and Robin have such a wholesome relationship, especially after Enies Lobby. Luffy is perfectly comfortable asking her to explain things to him, and Robin willingly does so without condescension, while also keeping things simple for her captain.

Just to clarify a bit. The Navy and the Warlords TOGETHER go against the Emperors, who themselves are all against each other. Each of the 3 is one of the 3 Great Powers but peace is only maintained by the Warlords and Navy working together against Emperors that have not joined forces. So this implies a lot about the power structure of the emperors and why the WG is forced to use the warlord system.
And like you said, the Navy did not want Shanks and WB meeting on the off chance that they join forces and destabilize the power balance of the world.
(Also the 4th emperor is near Garps legs but you have to look at the end of the animation where he’s not as big because he was originally covering up the last emperor)
I absolutely love watching new ppl fall in love with this story. The live action was 100% a success considering I’m watching so many new ppl upload reactions to the anime. The similarities between Roger and the crack head luffy himself never stop.
I like that Luffy *listens* when Robin explains something to him. With everyone else, its usually in one ear and out the other.

This is one of the best episodes of the series because it drops so much crucial info: vice admiral Garp is Luffy's grandfather, Shanks is a pirate emperor, the "training with Ace", Koby is suddenly a competent marine trained by Garp, and Luffy's father is Dragon, the mastermind behind the freaking revolutionary army!
Just a minor detail that u guys must have overlooked. 17:43 Luffy is made of rubber yet the punches he is getting from Garp is giving him pain, which should not be! Another attention to detail that Oda just throw on our face and sometimes we never notice. Anyways the answer for this u will get soon hehe!

I loved seeing Halo's shocked face when she saw Luffy eating in his sleep. Also, I'm glad that you guys agreed that revealing Luffy's family relation here was done better than in the live action where they spoiled Garp being Luffy's grandfather. And yes Oda does deserve a round of applause.
On Episode 313, when Garp punches Luffy, they said "it hurts? what do you mean it hurts? physical attacks dont work on rubber". Basically, Garp's fists hurt Luffy but all the others cannot.

If you think back the live action series, now you can understand why long-time & retired pirates -- such as Chef Zeff -- could figure out Luffy's relationship with Garp. They have the same surname (Monkey) and the same initial (D.). It's all in the name!
The reason it was revealed in the Live Action so early was because they didn't know if it would get to that point. they changed alot to cram things in to a few episodes.
