Funny this video pops up in 2024 like this. A few weeks ago while looking for something my 5 year old and I stumbled across my old PSP 1000 which he was enthralled with. When we visited Santa he asked for a Red PSP (guy was lost had no clue what he was asking for) Fast forward I found one on Ebay for him ($22) and ordered it a new shell in red, IPS Display and installed ARK 4. I think he's going to be really excited Christmas morning.
At this point, I think everything has been consolized except the one handheld I have wanted. But this mod is really neat and a huge show of effort by its developers. Makes me want to try this.
It's weird when they consolized a handheld that's already been consolized by the company themselves Super Game Boy/Player, PlayStation Vita TV, Nintendo Switch, Sega Nomad, Turbo Express, etc
You can sort of do this with a PSPGo as well, for anyone interested in another option. You can't use any controller, and you can't play UMD's, but you can pair a DualShock 3 with it and use the dock to output component video. Your display may have scaling issues from the weird output resolution and aspect ratio, so a scaler may also be required (unless you have a PlayStation 3D Display! It has a mode to handle it correctly).
I was thinking the same thing about the PSP Go. Another drawback to the PSP Go is that it used those M2 memory cards. Those max out at 16 GB [if you can find one].

Agreed. One of my biggest pet peeves is when an idiot just destroys a perfectly functioning device to do trendy mod. If a person can't use a broken "donar" device, they shouldn't be destroying perfectly working ones. Etsy artists were infamous for doing this to a lot of retro hardware.
Feel like this would benefit from a HDMI mod. I know there is one already out there but I feel like that one is just it gets the job done and could be a lot better
No need to mod HDMI output on to the system, the site where you can buy the PS Placable parts and units also sells AV output cables that provide a HDMI port on one end whilst the other end uses the stock AV combo output plug for the PSP itself. Literal plug-n-play solution that can be used for both the consolizer and stock PSP unit.

@@alexyo3927 the PSX (PS2 DVR) had XMB before the psp or ps3. And graphically it looked close to the ps2, but it wasnt really as close as it seems, it was a lot of trickery.
That's a really cool idea, and 100% agreed on retaining physical media. In fact, I have no clue why so many mods/modders seem to have a hatred to it, always eliminating optical drives specially. Keep the drives always! If the intention was to dump the drive, no need for a mod, just get a PSP Go after all. Regarding the mismatch on the ribbon cable connectors, a very simple solution to the problem in a future board revision is including both size connectors in parallel. As simple as that, you just populate the needed one. Hope the mod's creator sees this or has already thought of that.
Hey it is people like us that this mod is for. I always laugh when people think I don't know emulation exists. Sometimes the best things in life are the most challenging. I wanted to use the games I own, not steal the iso files and run them through a virtual console. As for the connector, we picked the way we did to both save board space and to let the separate pin outs of the 2000 be used. The 3Ks have a 7 pin cable and the 2ks have a 10 pin. So one connector lets us use both options. :) Not sure we will make a change to it but I am always open to ideas :D!
some people do this type of mod as a way to get a second life out of a broken console. lots of optical drives at this point are nearing 2 decades old, some with hundreds of hours on the original laser.. I do agree it's a nice touch for the PSP specifically to retain the UMD drive as it was a curious format that should be preserved.
@@HittTheDekk hit the nail on the head, its 99% of the time easier to dump the optical drive and run an ODE or boot games off an external drive when portablizing something or attempting to give new life out of broken / for parts systems
The psp was so cool at release. It really did feel like they were able to cram a whole ps2 into a tiny handheld. At the time graphics like that on a handheld were unheard of and I didn't think it was even possible.
Well, finally! I'm really excited about this since I heard about it. I'm following Stephen Cooper I guess a full year now and then Benergy Live. It's actually impressive how the project was evolving and now we can not only use Bluetooth controller on the PSP but rather make a full consolize version that is pretty straightforward. Kudos for all the people involved on this, and as always thanks to Tito to show this to the masses 🙌 PS: I can't wait to bring this to Uruguay and start playing!
Not just that, with homebrew you could do the same thing over a USB cable to your PC and just play the games on a big screen that way or you know buy the cable to hook it up to your TV that only works with the same models of PSP this mod works with... seems a bit scummy if you really think about it.
That's so cool. I always thought back in the day Sony should either do this themselves or even add a PSP slot or drawer to the PS3 console so we'd have a better option to play at home
@@mortemomnia because LTT is spreading their aids by sponsoring some of this channels content. Of course, I'd doubt your anything but a mindless consoomer.

I love the PSP scene man. I was wondering if these ideas were being worked on at all, and color me surprised. I'd only wish that someone figures out a way of de-letterboxing the original component/composite output with a simple line doubler for CRT users that doesn't include buying an OSSC.

With a modded PSP as the donor, that is a bona-fide portable media hub capable of emulating most 8 bit - 32 bit systems, movies and of course PSP games.
Couple thoughts: 1) Having a front-mounted pairing/power buttons would be good 2) small touch, but using a small extension cable to replace the hole the AV cable comes out of with an actual port would be a neat detail to include I think both of these could be integrated without making the build too complicated & would elevate this mod quite a bit
About the button mapping: Since you are already playing a PS1 game on a PSP, you can change the trigger/shoulder buttons with the PSP's original built-in PS1 emulation app. PSPs have a PS1 compatibility built right in. You can play PS1 games you bought from the PSN store or if you have a softmodded system, you can convert your PS1 game to PSP format easily. You are on your own on this one, google is there to help you (even though it's no longer your friend).
PSP emulation has been in such a good place for so long, it's hard to put a use case on this device. No uprez alone is tough for me. I guess the physical game compatibility is neat.
The ribbon cable mismatch could be resolved with a ribbon adapter, specially-made. That, or provide a jig to help people cut between lines with a craft knife / razor where applicable so the unused lines are omitted completely, which would make it a _semi-destructive_ mod but the ribbon could be easily used in-whole when reverted, and some tape wrapped below where the ribbon jig stops would prevent further shearing.
Pro tip, in the home button menu for any PS1 game, you can change whether the analog left/right is bound to L2/R2 or L1/R1. Whichever you choose, L/R gets bound to the other pair. Not super relevant with the button mapping features available here, but it’s worth knowing nonetheless.

You have unsurprisingly good taste in UMD movies! Kaneda would approve
Man been watching you for a minute pretty much since you started 'll never get tired of that intro!
Agreed. One of my biggest pet peeves is when an idiot just destroys a perfectly functioning device to do trendy mod.
If a person can't use a broken "donar" device, they shouldn't be destroying perfectly working ones.
Etsy artists were infamous for doing this to a lot of retro hardware.
Oh now this is the project I didn't know I needed to start this month.
I love this mod, I really really hope they implement an HDMI option in future revisions.
Thank you for being upfront with the prices!
I love that they gave instructions on how to have PCBWAY build the PCB. That will ensure the project will always live.
22:45 This game looks a lot like fluidity on the Wii and 3DS. The motion controls are part of what make that game cool so I'm not sure how good this game would be but yeah.
I seen like all these mods video not to mod but to understand how all this works and how people figured out how it gets moded is very interesting
Just picked up a Psp 2000 with a busted screen about an hour ago!!!
Looks like ill be ordering the Shell, and Kit next week (If they arent sold out by then)
Yout content never ceases to amaze me man this is awesome I really wish this video would blow up and everybody would see that because I never even knew anything like this was possible like my childhood dream
Great work. I love the ps2 style shell and integration of the umd.
Personally I'll stick with the PSTV, but this is a nice alternative =)
Congratulations. Your coverage of this has dramatically increased the price of not only this modkit and its pre-builts, but also PSPs across the board, including broken ones.
What is that saying? The road to Hell is paved with the best of intentions?
Awesome, awesome mod. I'm speechless. This idea is so ingenious and still so appealing. Kudos to everyone involved and to Tito, of course.
Should be called the PS1.5 Since the PSP is somewhere between ps1 and ps2 capabilities
Nah it was way more advanced that the 1 or 2 it also has the xmb like the ps3
It's actually more on par with the PS2 itself in terms of specs
@@alexyo3927 the PSX (PS2 DVR) had XMB before the psp or ps3. And graphically it looked close to the ps2, but it wasnt really as close as it seems, it was a lot of trickery.
Yes handhelds are usually always in between the power of two generations of consoles. Since they don't have to run games at higher resolutions.
@@andreigtx1711 fine, I'll concede to PS1.75 😂
Welcome back, PlayStation TV.
@@benergyliveowning physical games are a illusion. Disk rot is actually a thing.
@@HittTheDekk hit the nail on the head, its 99% of the time easier to dump the optical drive and run an ODE or boot games off an external drive when portablizing something or attempting to give new life out of broken / for parts systems
the drive has to be removed because it causes errors. Nobody cares if the drive is there or not and most CFWs support physical media.
The psp was so cool at release. It really did feel like they were able to cram a whole ps2 into a tiny handheld. At the time graphics like that on a handheld were unheard of and I didn't think it was even possible.
My man reppin' Dissidia in the intro, you a real one Tito
Another banger video by the homie, Tito! Keep up the good work, brother!
this thing is RAD!
Kudos for all the people involved on this, and as always thanks to Tito to show this to the masses 🙌
PS: I can't wait to bring this to Uruguay and start playing!
I like this mod, but the one thing I would have done different is use a USB-C connector for the power rather than the PSP barrel connector.
I think for simplicity sake they tried being as stock as possible but that shouldn't be hard to add yourself I've seen a few different kits for that
My dude, I love that you keep covering cool stuff like this. 😃
I think psp consolizer was called ps vita tv
A. you can't play UMD games on the Vita TV and B. This gives older psp 2000 and 3000s that are broken or busted and new lease on life.
@hudsonball4702 yeah, i know, i am just joking
my psp 2000 power cable is broken so no not really
Kudos for highlighting the accessibility improvements with this mod; gaming for everyone!
Is there lag?
I really like the project you really gave the PSP a new look it's like a Modernize one 🔥
At last! After all this time!
Its really cool! And the shell mimicking a slim ps2 is perfect
Basically a more expensive PSTV...
Do you know how much PSTVs are going for?
Not just that, with homebrew you could do the same thing over a USB cable to your PC and just play the games on a big screen that way or you know buy the cable to hook it up to your TV that only works with the same models of PSP this mod works with... seems a bit scummy if you really think about it.
A pstv is a vita, not a psp.
@@Haltedboyit's not scummy? It's a mod that is optional for people who want it lol. And it does add on BT functionality
@@Haltedboy god forbid someone puts time and effort into a project they like and asks money for all that work!
That's so cool. I always thought back in the day Sony should either do this themselves or even add a PSP slot or drawer to the PS3 console so we'd have a better option to play at home
Just wanted to say LTT sucks. They've completely lost their way
Who asked?
All they do is show off money now. Oh look at this 5000$ setup none of you can afford anymore.
@@mortemomnia because LTT is spreading their aids by sponsoring some of this channels content. Of course, I'd doubt your anything but a mindless consoomer.
Same thing could be said about your life
@@SauceCrusader-kr9hu Man. Is your personal identity so tied into LTT that you default to your emotional defensive responses of insulting others?
This is such a fascinating mod! Did you know the PSP almost had a phone feature at one point? Love learning and sharing these fun tech stories.
I’VE WANTED THIS FOR SO LONG!!
I love how the case is inspired by the PS2 slim. I've been waiting for this mod for a while now.
I'd loved to see a video where you talk about which modded retro consoles your play the most. I think it would be interesting
Absolutely gorgeous work! I suggest the developer of this mod to add usb C power port + hdmi port + an upscaler and it would be a complete art.. much appreciated work done by the developers ❤
How delightful! Absolutely majestic!
I'm glad there's still access to the SD Card slot. Both PSPs I have (1000 and 2000 series) are both modded.
This looks like it's VERY close to the PSP consolizer of my dreams :)
Another generation or two of these and they'll be fantastic.
I was debating getting this after this video. Except I also have a PSTV that's modded... Almost no use at that point. AWESOME product regardless.
I love the PSP scene man. I was wondering if these ideas were being worked on at all, and color me surprised.
I'd only wish that someone figures out a way of de-letterboxing the original component/composite output with a simple line doubler for CRT users that doesn't include buying an OSSC.
This is hands down the best console mod i ever seen 😮
Thank you SO MUCH for the soothing piano music, its so calming. 👍
A leitmotif for this channel;
Let's take consoles and make them handhelds, and let's take handhelds and make them consoles.
I haven't watched nacho macho vids in over a year. And coming here from somewhere else and instantly going full screen I didn't see that it was a macho nacho vid.
So when he introduced himself as Tito I suddenly sprouted "Isn't your name Macho Nacho?"
I like how there's always some new thing coming out all the time, never-ending passion for our past!
With a modded PSP as the donor, that is a bona-fide portable media hub capable of emulating most 8 bit - 32 bit systems, movies and of course PSP games.
I have been waiting for this
This channel is a GEM! 💎 Glad it found me! Thanks 😊
This is so freaking awesome ! 😲
A great MOD that I look forward to in the future!!
Couple thoughts:
1) Having a front-mounted pairing/power buttons would be good
2) small touch, but using a small extension cable to replace the hole the AV cable comes out of with an actual port would be a neat detail to include
I think both of these could be integrated without making the build too complicated & would elevate this mod quite a bit
I’ve been wanting this for years and trying to make one that uses PS2 controllers. This is fantastic.
Now this is the coolest project i've seen in a long time!!
Well it is 20 years old since 2 days ago if you count from the japanese release. The psp go has become my favorite console ever! Great video!
Tito - you are fast approaching legend territory.
Really neat little project
PSP emulation has been in such a good place for so long, it's hard to put a use case on this device. No uprez alone is tough for me. I guess the physical game compatibility is neat.
This mod kit is wicked cool! I definitely want to make one.
The ribbon cable mismatch could be resolved with a ribbon adapter, specially-made. That, or provide a jig to help people cut between lines with a craft knife / razor where applicable so the unused lines are omitted completely, which would make it a _semi-destructive_ mod but the ribbon could be easily used in-whole when reverted, and some tape wrapped below where the ribbon jig stops would prevent further shearing.
it should be kapton tape
Pro tip, in the home button menu for any PS1 game, you can change whether the analog left/right is bound to L2/R2 or L1/R1. Whichever you choose, L/R gets bound to the other pair. Not super relevant with the button mapping features available here, but it’s worth knowing nonetheless.
I'm definitely buying this kit. It's affordable, easy, and I have a psp with a broken screen
The Mod Community is going in good way 👌
