I hand dug a well down to 35 feet. At about 25 feet I hit a rock about the size of a football. Used a mirror to put a beam of sunlight down the hole and shot the rock with a .338 Winchester Magnum. The bigger the caliber the better. It shattered the rock with one shot and I kept drilling away.
Still working on part 2. Just had more and more cave in issues but have come up with a way to case it as I go. Trouble is I have hit a rock and can't seem to get by. Not giving up yet...
I discovered a trick to those rocks. Take the auger off have another small joint of pipe with a blunt point to attach to the end instead and use the whole thing like a rock bar. As long as its not just one solid rock you can keep going. I have dug 3 well like this so far and hit iron ore on two of them. Without being able to pound on it for a little while I would have never made it. Shame I didn't discover that trick until the second well.
Thanks a bunch I think I well buy one and try it. My water table is only 15' down through red sand and clay. My grandpa said their is a under ground river that runs under the whole valley here in Leflore co. Poteau Oklahoma
I took a large concrete bit cut it in half and welded it to conduit. One piece on each end. Then I used my electric impact driver and turned the rocks into pebbles. With couplers you can make it any length.
The basket unscrews, you add a pipe with a threaded coupling. Hard to unthread pipe when you have a load of dirt and 20 feet of line to deal with so I made a quick disconnect. 1/2 inch rod inserted inside the water line sticking out 6 inches. I then drilled though the water line and rod about 2 inches down the line on each side and inserted a 1/4 inch bolt like a pin. Then all I had to do was pull the pin and the pipe would separate without having to uncrew the pipe thread connection.
For any future shallow well enthusiast you can always take a PVC pipe or galvanized pipe 3/4 to 1 in for the solid brass high pressure hose nozzle on the end of 1 pipe and a threaded end for your hose on the other end of the pipe and you can cut through mud stand dirt it will help too break up the dirt to get around boulders and it works really well for doing this type of a thing going under sidewalk the running sprinkler line for what it's worth
LOL did that when I was going up on the farm. we went 80 feet on one well trying to hit water. we pulled up it up and used a peacon tree beside us to lean it against it until we got the dirt out then lower it back down.
I've used this same auger method to put in 3 wells. It lessens the chance of stripping pipe and coupling threads because there is less pounding. In hard pan I drop a heavy wrecking bar down the hole to break things up so the auger can pick it up. I augered a well in yesterday and in less than an hour I was in ground water. Good system.
It is 3/4 water pipe so I had the hardware store cut and thread a few shorter sections, say 3-4 feet, so that adding them didn't make the whole system too awkward to handle. When it got too deep to pull the whole thing out intact I added a quick disconnect by welding a pin that slipped into the pipe and then drilling a hole though to add a bolt. Lift it up, hold it, pull the bolt, lift the next section. Did I explain it ok?
I did mine the same way. Bored until i couldn't get any dirt out of the ground (tooooo wet) I used a 6 inch schedule 40 PVC pipe as a casing and an electric jack hammer (for pounding pipe) I'm 18 feet with a 5 foot sand point.
Could be, the silts and stuff. I have seen wells dug that way, this is simply another way. Since we have so much gravel I am not sure how effective it would be overall.
you can use a hand mirror to shine the sunlight down the hole.. Sometimes you can turn the auger backwards for a few turns and move a rock that is sticking out of the side to another place where the mud matrix will hold it back in the side.
Perfect Video. But if you can add your tools on our portable drill rig AKL-40, that will help you more efficiently and faster to finish your drill project there.
What is the tool you are using? I need to dig my own well because everyone is charing 30k for a well. That’s not feasible, I don’t have that kind of dough. So, I have got to do this on my own.
Thailand digging deep water artesian they used a big giant screw driver being pushed by heavy duty motor & out then go back again until they hit the main water stream then install a 8 inch in diameter pipe with a thread sealed in white teflon,..

en algerie on ne trouve pas une tariere manuelle dans le marché .; ce qui existe c'est des tariere avec moteur .. et ce n'est pas evident de fabriquer un tel outil .. la soudure peut ne pas tenir ..
Id be sending caseing down as you dig. But first , I would of put all those tailings through a sluice. Thar might be gold down thar. Maybe atleast enough to buy you a few beers when you get hot and thirsty. hehe
From looking at it in the video....Does the handle just screw off at the T, and then you added a 3/4" straight coupling and then screwed on a section of 3/4" pipe??? Thats how it visually looks too me....I didnt know the exact measurements until you just mentioned it.....Now the last part..the added quick disconnect...Was that to remove the handle & add more pipe?? Im not comprehending that part! Thanks for the reply back! I have a cabin a few miles off road, it would be nice to have water!
good video, after drilling do you simply fit a PVC wall casing from keeping it collapsing? And you said drill holes in the bottom of the pipe to make it semipermeable for the water to pass in and fill it. Im going to be this in Southern Colorado. How do you draw water from the well? I want to use a water pump that brings it directly into my cabin, please let me know your thoughts
Oh ok! I found 2 different types of seymour post hole augers. One is a 6" diameter hole auger and the other is the same thing "but" its adjustable to where you can adjust the head to 6", 7" or 8"....I comprehend the head removal & the connecting of the 3/4" dia pipe..Now im trying to comprehend the last part! The whole idea is to remove the auger head by using a pull pin to make it easier? Also did you remove each section as you came up out of the hole or every other section or lifted it all up?
why wouldn’t he put an extension instead of bending to ground. And the larger the handle, the more power to turn easier. Auger at end of first pipe section, wider width handle with one or two pushing it might have busted the rock. Or a sharp point under basket. Though manual, using some of normal well drilling techniques might help, put threaded pipe in hole and add as you go along to keep sides from caving. Plus at sometime you have to put a pipe(s) in so it would be easier to start while shallow and keep screwing on next section as you go.
Just watch it and you see what we did and why. I never understand comments like this. Also if you try to put the extension on to early then the whole thing is too far in the air to comfortably turn. While it is easy to screw in an extension while it is in the hole it can be very hard to to unscrew the handle to add them. Eventually I made a quick joint at 10 feet to make this easier. Trying to unscrew extensions while removing it to dump the dirt is both frustrating and ineffective as all the dirt falls back down with the jostling.
hook a water hose to the top of the spudding bar and you can jet the hole on down. the extra water will soak into the sides and make for a more stable hole-side.
And once you have your well Doug and you want a inexpensive water tank you can always use a plastic 55-gallon drum that you can use you can also get a bulkhead to put on the side of your tank as well after you cut a hole in it that is here's a link to my setup it's a little different but it may give you some ideas ruclips.net/video/EDALWqeGsHQ/видео.html

Great videos. My seymour auger just came today. I had previously tried to use the water drill method to wash down a 2" PVC pipe, however I kept hitting a rock. The auger had me optimistic I could power down deep enough for a shallow well. Tested it out a little bit tonight and it takes rocks out fairly easy that are within the 6 inch diameter hole, the rocks that are "half in" and "half out" of where the hole would be are troublesome. How do you get these out? Saw you had a lot of rocks.

Yes, pull a pin and it comes apart. I put one about every 8-10 feet, more than that was too hard to deal with. Mine was the 7 inch auger.
The basket unscrews, you add a pipe with a threaded coupling. Hard to unthread pipe when you have a load of dirt and 20 feet of line to deal with so I made a quick disconnect. 1/2 inch rod inserted inside the water line sticking out 6 inches.
