A very common concern among parents of children with autism is eating. In fact, it’s such a common concern that it’s become a diagnosis marker for the autism spectrum. Many parents want to pass healthy eating habits on to their children, but the limited diets their children prefer are causing severe malnourishment, weight gain or loss, and in some cases, impaired learning. The behavioral analyst approach is very different from the oral sensory motor approach, but whatever program you choose is not going to be very successful if the child isn’t tasting the food.

My son wont eat anything. Literally. He wont let food anywhere near his mouth. Its hard finding feeding therapy around here. Hes 100% gtube fed so i dont worry about deficiencies because i control his food. I do a whole foods blenderized diet for him. But id give anything to see him eat a friggin French fry or chicken nugget.

My great-grandson is 9 and all he will eat are chicken nuggets, plain waffles, pizza, and sometimes bread and jelly. He drinks only water and chocolate milk and some juices.

Thank you, this was helpful to understanding vitamin deficiencies. Can you provide tips on how to solve picky eating? For example, my 5 year old has a very limited diet, what’s a fool proof way to add foods with vit. D and C?

Thank you Mary for everything you do for us parents. I have watch your webinar today and purchased the book. My son is 3 still waiting for assessment but I’ve been working with him a lot myself. I’m polish and I’ve been talking to my son polish since he was born. We live in England so in the nursery they speak English. It seems to me English comes easier to him. He is not talking much just few words. Would you advise me to keep speaking polish or shall I stick to one language? I’ve recently purchased flash cards they are in English and not sure which language I should use to teach him now. I hope you could advise. Thank you 🙏

Thank you for purchasing my book! This is up to you, but I would recommend using English to teach him until he has at least 100+ words, then you can start teaching Polish words for things. I recommend English to start for your son only because that is the language used in the community and at school. We want to set our kids up for success.
