i can't believe a single word susan says and i think the platform is already well biased towards anti-freedom of speech and you know it
What you said about viewers only using the dislike button to hate is absolutely untrue. I typically only use it on creators I enjoy that have put out a video I'm not really a fan of, whether it be I dislike the style of video, the argument presented (politics etc), maybe a person they collaborated with.
I've also noticed that many creators will test out a new style of video and rely on their like/dislike ratio to see whether their audience enjoyed the change in content. It's absolutely a valuable tool and RUclips would become an echo chamber without it.

Hundreds of content creators, including me, have pictures of the minute-by-minute drop in views that happens exactly when a video gets demonetized. I can't believe she's still denying this.

Am I the only one who feels like she doesn't really know what she's talking about? I feel like she was just trying to talk circles around a lot of the questions..
If an issue is brought up to her, i.e. the lgbtq+ demonetization, she shouldn't just answer with "This issue is inexistent, next". Maybe think about having homophobic content-reviewing staff? What a joke.

Videos that have kids with disabilities get their comments section shut down and their channel gets suppressed. I was told it isn't a mistake, it's working as intended, so they did mean to throttle accounts with kids with disabilities. Why does this happen when videos can help people feel like they belong, and they can learn to deal with the issues that come with a disability?

I think the dislike button is useful and I don’t agree that people who dislike a video haven’t actually watched it. It’s a good way to put across your opinion plus your audience aren’t going to like every single thing you create.
i think that the like and dislike buttons are a way for consumer to have freedom of speech and opinion
But why PewDiePie is not in YT Rewind anymore?!?!

Given RUclips are a video channel I’m really surprised that there’s a constant buzzing sound during the interview. 😬
RUclips Rewind was initially to review the top moments of the year but it became the most disliked video on the platform because it changed and became a new political platform for pushing a one-sided agenda. People need a breath of fresh air and just a single moment where they don't have to think about politics.
I click dislike if I don’t like a video. Just because I’m subscribed or watch some creators channels/ videos doesn’t mean I like all the items. It’s the same as unsubbing. I’ve disliked some of your vids to maybe show I didn’t like the direction you were going. It then went onto unsubscribing and I thought I’d unsubbed all but this one got away but was interesting.

But why is the RUclips channel named *speacial books for special kids* demonitized. All that channel is doing is educating and creating awareness for different types of disabilities. *why susan* .
YT isn’t fair anymore. The creators who made YT great have been tossed aside like rotten cabbage.
Also the community guidelines are NOT clear. Creators who want to adhere to the guidelines are still demonetized because the standards are not crystal clear.
Also the appeal process for demonetization isnt fair for creators like Tim Pool and Philip Defranco. By the time they’re remonetized most of the traffic has already seen the content and moved on.
56:00 *A good Solution to the dislikes* is to Implement a "Must watch a % of video before a Like or dislike can be given" This ensures the accuracy of whether the User actually watched the video and the Voting of the content for that video will become more accurate.

I liked that she explained the advertising point of view more. I actually work in the advertising industry and I know that 99% of advertisers want a 99,9% brand safe environment for their ads. And most of them have a detailed list with hundreds of keywords which are not allowed in the content with their ads on, so it might not necessarily be RUclips who has a keyword for demonetization, but the advertisers indirectly make those videos demonetized. But most people only see the side of creators and why their videos get demonetized, but the only way youtube can pay creators is to put ads on their videos, simple as that. In turn, why should a creator get paid for a video where no advertiser is willing to put their ads on? And like she said, the advertiser most likely chooses a set of channels which put out videos in a certain context/field. Another way for them to choose the videos they want to be placed on are search keywords. No advertiser would choose an unsafe keyword list for their own ads, so therefor these kinds of videos most likely won´t get ads and probably get demonetized.

I call bullshit. You can't say it's to keep kids safe when you pick and choose who you turn comments off. It either one way or another not a channel with 10 million viewers still have them on.

Re: the like and dislikes...I personally watch all of your videos, but I don't always click like. Not because I dislike them, but I save my likes for videos that really resonate with me. So, like this video today, brought about discussion with my sister and I about what we see and hear in the RUclips world. So I have clicked like on this one.
Please keep doing what you do and don't change it.
I still feel she skirted round the issue regarding lgbtq demonitisation and didn't really answer the question.All she said was that this shouldn't happen and that they have an appeal process but who reviews and why does this happen.I also feel Alfie could have given examples here and pressed a little harder .I think she brushed him off!! Interesting though and congrats Alfie.
In regards to your comment, I Actually do dislike videos from creators that I do enjoy if I did not enjoy that particular video as in if I didn't find the content relevant & enjoyable. So it's not necessarily always just to be hateful, but as in my case here to give honest feedback to the content creator.
I know this may sound silly but maybe there could be a system where creators put a date when they’re coming back like something similar to the automatic email you get when someone is out of office for a certain amount of time but in video format letting viewers know when you’re coming back rather than them not knowing if you are going to come back. I don’t know if that would work just a suggestion.
that's a good idea, knowing exactly when a creator is returning is much more likely to help retain audiences rather than leaving it open-ended.
But who is reviewing because sometimes it gets appealed and rejected wrongly

Great job Alfie; I appreciate you asking questions that got at key issues of the community. I feel some of Susan's answers were a little vague, but I am glad that she agreed to do the interview, it's a step in the right direction to see more communication for sure.
I think the conversation around "Music videos do Parkour and get monetized but I don't when I film the same thing" was an interesting one. For me, coming from a film background, it could be as simple as films or music videos go through strenuous amounts of paperwork and Health and Safety clearances for executing stunts or actions like that, and will have consent from every building they film and touch. The RUclips creator on their own, on the other hand, may not be implementing the same level of paperwork and double checking and clearance of use etc. This means that their content is at risk of causing harm in a manner of speaking, were the music video isn't. If their was a way to show RUclips and advertisers your clearances and paperwork for you parkour (or anything really) videos within your description, or as a separate aspect of the upload itself, it may encourage people to go about things as safely as possible, and assure the advertisers that your care level for the channel, and in turn, their product is of high standard. It does mean for the creator on their own, that's a heck of a lot more work for one video, but if it's guaranteed to not be disputed? Could be worth it :)
Haven't finished the video yet so not sure if this has been addressed, but I would like to ask her about the demonetisation of sexual education content eg the channels sexplanations and hannah witton
I mean, she said with the LGBTQ content that it's usually 'adult content' that gets demonetised. They haven't get figured out a way to decipher what's vulgar and what's educational, which is totally messed up. I fell like it should have been spoken about more as opposed to saying as little as possible to make audiences happy

I haven't finished watching yet, however, I would like to advice that even though she's the CEO + a front facing person of Google atm, there is a level of technicality that in my opinion she doesn't completely understand or can't explain very well? Given this, I'd say in future interviews it'd be great to have an engineer or tech lead or someone with technical depth to be able to pitch in a few cents on the algorithms and/or AI that accompany any issues/complains, hopefully in a way that a non technical person can understand.

Super informative! It makes me have high hopes for the platform and for the first time I truly believe that creators are a top interest of the executives.
There have genuinely been videos from creators that I enjoy where I actively disliked the video but would happily come back for another video from the same creator. I know that I can say in the comments if I didn't like a given video without smashing the Dislike, but I don't feel like mentioning it in the comments is very noticeable whereas the Dislike is a concrete metric that a creator can see and track.
For the videos that have children in them maybe RUclips could do an approval algorithm for the comments. If the computer picks up on certain key words or a link in the comment then those comments aren’t publicly posted. And then a person reviews what the comment says and if it’s something inappropriate then the user is blocked from the channel. And if they create another account and do the same thing, the IP address is blocked. I’m not sure that all of that can even be done but if they’re #1 concern is child safety then the user really shouldn’t even able to even view the video at all.

The one thing that I have noticed about youtube is the fact that with the other youtubers that I follow, i notifies me when they upload videos, however it diesnt notify me when they write something on a community post or when they post stories
I actually will watch a whole video and then dislike if I don't enjoy the content, not to be mean but just to voice my thoughts on the content. I do feel a lot of people use the dislike button for the reasons you stated.

If you read the comments than answer a question for me. Atwood vlogs hasbyoung children and is allowed comments but Gilroy vlogs which also has minor children is not allowed comments. One has 3 million subscribers and the other is like 600k. One has children as young as one the other is 4. Neither have questionable content regarding the families. This is a case of unfair abilities
it would be nice if youtube gave content creators the option to turn on comments or turn off comments. ie family channels and whatnot

Oof... RUclips as a company is stuck in a hard place. imagine building a robot that learns languages it would need a massive amount of data to speak back to a human fluently, the machine learning algorithm is flagging videos for demonization that have to be checked by 10000 humans to get a type of consistency. Then the machine learning can be tweaked little by little to be more accurate....tough....really tough
