The Atheist Community of Austin is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas. The Atheist Community of Austin is dedicated to promoting atheism, critical thinking, secular humanism, and the separation of religion and government.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

No kidding. I have plenty of meaning in my life without Jesus. If you can't find meaning in your life without an imaginary friend, then I feel sorry for you.

@@E-s.thoughts It sounds to me that he was agreeing with OP. He started with “No Kidding” which is a response to “What a depressing mindset to have”. When he says “I feel sorry for you” he’s not referring to OP, he’s referring to an any and everyone that feels the way the quote referenced or having no meaning in their lives without Jesus. He knows OP doesn’t feel this way. Unless I’m missing something since the post was edited.

If you write in your comment "I feel sorry for 'you'" you are addressing someone directly and not talking in general. That's how it immediately came across to me, hence my reaction! It was just a well-intentioned mention on my part... nothing more.

We haven’t done a single activity together. I’ve never heard a God’s voice or shaken a God’s hand.
Never had a “God” come and help me mow the lawn or fix dinner after a hard day.

Or bring me jumper cables when my car would not start.
My fellow humans have made infinitely more effort to be a part of my life and give it meaning than any “God” has.
How foolish would it be for me to say that this absentee “God” is what gives my life meaning?
Let me educate you: YOU are not worthy of God's presence, so God gave you the Bible. You are to humble yourself, listen to the Word preached & the spirit will convict you of your sin and you will know you're in need of a savior due to your sin. At some point, you SURRENDER your life to God and follow his teachings. GOD WANTS TO BE PURSUED.

I would say that you fail to understand exactly who God is. He wants to be sought after. Why? Because he's worthy of our pursuit. His awesome greatness is beyond your comprehension. Prove God? Ok. You’re dying. Everybody you know is either dead or dying. Every human being, plant and animal in the last 10,000 yrs is dying or dead - never producing any NEW INFORMATION/ TRANSITIONAL NEW ANATOMY/EVOLUTION. So if you never produce any new information, your CAUSE can't be just more dying entities. Therefore, your CAUSE is "required" to be a NON-DYING ENTITY.
There is no “PHYSICAL OUTSIDE" of time-space. Thus, the cause of physical existence is necessarily NON-PHYSICAL/transcendent. Just like the CAUSE of “time” is required to be “timeless.” And if you’re “timeless,” do you have a beginning or end? All of these facts point to the cause of this world to be OUR INFINITE/ETERNAL/SUPERNATURAL GOD.

When there was a god, we chatted a lot. He liked to remind me that there was a place in the fiery pit for me, for a couple of reasons. I'm a musician, specifically a chorister. I have sung in different community choirs for decades. Some of the music that they do is religious, some of it is not. Most of the great composers wrote music for choirs that was set to religious texts or themes. If you're a singer there's really no way to get away from that fact. I choose to sing for the joy of singing, and don't pay attention to the words. But if I were in a choir that did religious music that was offensive to me, I suppose I'd find a different choir to sing in. 😂 Fortunately, most community or civic choruses are headquartered or sponsored in mainline Protestant denomination churches so you're not going to be singing about Christ's back dripping from the lash or other way too out there stuff. Beethoven's Mass in C, The Brahms German Requiem, and the Bach Cantatas are big in those groups. I also sang for many years in a local chorus that performed Handel's Messiah every fall. My mother was also a non-believing musician who directed many choirs and accompanied many church services on the piano or organ. I do agree that in a context of grooming someone to join your religion, the activity of singing as a group can be manipulated for ill.
In primitive tribes young men are inducted into the tribe using dance and music. This innate tribal propensity is why teenagers become infatuated with music.
I've gone to a Catholic church to listen to choir music before. Honestly, the Catholic traditions-the architecture, music, Latin, paintings and sculptures, etiquette, etc.-are so beautiful that I would absolutely be an active member if the whole religion was changed into some sort of performing arts thing. I'd be a habitual Mass attendee.

I agree, it is likely we are the only animal that has faith in a deity (although elephants practice a form of funeral ritual). All that means to me is that we evolved far enough to seek meaning in such things and invented gods to fill that void.

I'm atheist and I know it's only possible to believe in God by faith.
That's because you cannot believe in God by evidence, because so far, none has been presented.
And if all you have is faith, then that is a shakey foundation. Faith is not a path to truth. Faith leads people all around the world and all across time to thousands of different gods, so how do you know yours is the right one?
Life is purposeless and meaningless without a Creator. But the atheist cannot allow that conclusion because it leads to depression and even suicide. And so the atheist must change the definition of purpose and meaning from something real into a feeling or sense. Helping others will give a feeling of meaning and purpose. But it's just a feeling.

But let me do what you guys do and use the 2nd law of thermodynamics. It applies ONLY to a closed system. So if god is within our closed system, he will be subject to the heat death, so he WILL die.
If we are NOT in a closed system and god is somehow outside of our universe and not subject to the 2nd law, then he doesn't exist in our universe and does not exist.
Tell me ANY one human advancement that depends DIRECTLY on the existence of god. There's nothing. So there's not even a need to posit a god hypothesis, just like I don't have to posit a ghost to explain a bump in the night.
