    In our quest for seeking out a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle, we made a plan that includes zero waste living, tiny home living and full-time travel. We considered buying an RV, looked at trailers and airstreams but settled on doing a bus conversion for our off the grid, tiny house on wheels. We bought a 1996 MCI 102 D3 coach bus and with the Bus Demolition and Interior Shell complete, now we turn it into our Tiny Home on Wheels!
    Watch Season 2: Bus Demolition series here - • Bus Demolition - Rehab...
    Watch Season 3: Bus Build series here - • The Bus Build - Rehabi...
    Watch Season 4: Interior Build series here - • Bus Conversion TIME LA...
    In its previous life, our MCI bus was used as a school bus, although we don't think we can legitimately call it a skoolie. We are confident that converting our bus into a class a motor home will have challenges, but doing a massive overhaul and remodel on a motorhome / RV remodel didn’t seem to align with the off grid bus life we were aiming for.

    I am so happy for you. I remember when you left California and have watched for so long.
    Watching the cats is such a wonderful thing I know how important they are I have 3 and they are wonderful most of the time until they are mad are each other or me, mine also talk to me. They are such a huge part of my life. I cried at the part where you went to say goodbye because I know that pain also. I had one that I loved for 17 years and she was also a calico my heart still hurts for her.

Now your new and constant problem will be as it already is : ''Where the hell should we be going now ? '' LOL - Safe and happy travel to you ''gypsy souls'' (said Mel in one of the first videos). I watched a few videos when you guys had a plastic coach. I have a totally different impression of you since you starting doing this conversion. I respect the "Grit" you have shown. I have to admit that i totally misjudged you during your early videos. Conrats and respect.
    To clarify, not that i had a bad impression of your character but just not the type of content that inspired me.

    I know you have a delay from recording to release but if you have not done so yet, get roadside assistance that will cover your bus, Coachnet seems to be the most recommended. Based on lessons learned I won't leave the driveway without it.

    Apologies if someone has already suggested this. You might want to try to find a Little Giant Ladder. It's a telescoping ladder that folds into a 5-ft package. It's the only ladder you can fit into the front seat of a Volkswagen.

    Protip: if you get delayed and can't make your destination, at least get the RV on the road. You can always pull over and sleep in it somewhere. The act of getting on the road always turns stuff up. The sooner you try to leave the sooner you force yourself to pack *everything* and the sooner you find travel issues, if there are going to be any.

    What a wonderful adventure and beautiful story. You both have a gift for storytelling. Electrical tip: replace those single-use fuses with mini resettable circuit breakers. They plug right into the blade connecter slots and work just like home circuit breakers. As an aside, might want to consider booking a visit to the wonderful folks at Bus Grease Monkeys in TN when in the neighbourhood for a thorough checkup. If anything needs replacing, they encourage owners to pitch in in exchange for a discount on the labor.

    • @Rehabit8
      @Rehabit8  2 года назад +1

      Hi h5mind thank you for the tip! I had never heard of those. Will have to look them up. I think the bus freeze monkey only works on 71 and 92 series buses (?) I remember something about that watching his videos

    • @h5mind373
      @h5mind373 2 года назад

      @@Rehabit8 We're planning our own bus purchase one day so I've been a religious viewer of both your and Bus Grease Monkey's channels. AFAIK, Scott Crosby (the owner) works on pretty much anything bus-related. I imagine you have a four-stroke Cat, Cummins or Detroit Series 60. I've seen several later model MCI and Prevost go through their shop. BTW, they strongly recommend making sure whichever tire shop you use does NOT use those big 1,000 foot pound impact guns to do the final tighten of the lug nuts- they're only meant for breaking lugs free, not cranking them back on (unless, of course, they re- set the gun to your particular torque setting). The did a recent episode where a shop cranked on the lugs so tightly to a customer's bus it stripped lugs and even stretched the studs, rendering them unsafe. Luckily Scott caught it and the shop replaced all the lugs and studs. Hope this helps! P.s., did you include a torque wrench among all those amazing tools?

    We somewhat finished our huild with the money we had. Sold our house then we had all the money we needed to finish but had to leave the driveway...LOL
    So now weve been liv8ng in Olive for a month now. First day nonpower, propane leak and water leak. Finally got power later in the day after buying another power cord.
    Took 3 days to fix water leak and get city line hooked up. Although it wasnt strong enough pressure to keep on demand water heater going. Then we decided to fill the tank...another leak. Took 2 days to find acceptable tubing.
    Propane leak fixed on day 3.
    Now we are working on the extra stuff now that we finally have the money to buy them...installing ice maker, backup cameras, solar. We've bought everything. Waiting on the solar panels and batteries to be delivered this week.
    We are doing Swarm in the Smokies in October. This will be our first event! Its a skoolie group Skoolie Swarm.
    So ready to be done with all the "extras" and do our 1st trip!

    Well, if you guys are coming through North CentralTexas and need a place to stop and do some maintenance send me a note.
    We live in the Country about 25 miles north of Fort Worth. (11 miles west of Texas Motor Speedway)
    I've got a huge shop behind the house, and a dump station, plus a 50, 30 and plenty of 15 amp pulg ins you can hook up to. The shop is full of tools.
    I am currently rebuilding my 1989 Fleetwood Linited Class A. New Drivetrain, interior, solar panels and repaint once it's all roadworthy.
    Mela and my wife would get along good with their excersizing. (Wife just left for Yoga with her girlfriends.)
    We are retired so you won't be an inconvience at all. We'd love to see the Bus up close. And our cats would love to play with yours. Lots of rabbits and stuff to chase.......
    So keep us in mind.

    Just remember, adversity strengthens character,which takes a lifetime... the only thing that kills poison ivy is brake fluid the only thing I know... if you go north just be aware and I have been saying this all summer we're going to get an early winter so you don't want to get stuck up north in that just keep an eyeball on your weather I know most of the bus bills stay to the South or into the desert in Arizona around quartzite in the winter.. as with anything in life you have to roll with the punches never plan ahead 3/4 of what's great in life is stumbled upon by accident so just go with it

    Bon Voyage? Spelling? Have a great time, life is short, don't play with ur dream, take it and use it just what u both are doing now safe travel. Did u not think of buying an electric bicycle whenever u stop at the camp ground u could cycle in the town or city rather than using the bus?

    Okay, I've been binge watching all your videos over the last week from that start of the bus build and I'm done, so I have an advantage. Don't ask how many hours...LOL! Do you remember when your mechanic Joe in your Nov. 10th 2021 video said to check your fuses if your bus wouldn't start? :) Also, what model of Beyerdynamic headphones does Don use?

      🤣 he did! Joe is awesome. He has helped us solve many bus problems. He’s the best. Don is busy driving the bus right now but he says they are 550’s(he thinks) but he’s have to check to be sure…..but not right now obviously

      @@Rehabit8 Maybe the 770's? I have the 990's 600 ohm and they are a very nice headphone, but need a headphone amp to drive! I also love my Fostex T-60RP's, but I'm a headphone nerd...LOL!
