i know people are saying it's not a katana but it is a katana. And one made with the particular style of a particular bladesmith, too, though that is a mutually exclusive fact. people just don't realise that if this tech were available Japanese bladesmith back then would totally use it. I really like the full still aspect of it though I wonder if those parts make it any heavier than if they were standard copper(?). I also wonder what all those Japanese characters say?
Historically, the fittings were made from a variety of metals, not just copper. Pretty much the only fitting that was never made from iron or steel would be the habaki. But iron was often used for the other fittings, and pre-Edo era tsuba were often big enough that the balance wouldn't be noticeably different from this one despite the former having habaki not made from steel.
Freerk, that must be a defining moment for you when you acid etch those blades and to see that tear drop pattern come to life. What a piece of jewelry that you created. I wish that I could afford such a work of art.

Да, это не совсем катана. Но мсполнение и оригинальный дизайн засоуживают похвалы. Мастер проделал действительно большую работу и получилось по своему красиво.
Awesome work man! What tool do you use to remove the wood to place the tang in? I’m using chisels, but I can’t get it come out right to where the tang fits.
Beautiful but wouldn't it have made more sense to hollow grind the bottom of the tang versus the top to increase integrity and shock resistance? My understanding is that katana are forged with amile steel spine and a hard cutting edge so that the spine absorbs the impact to the blade. Wouldn't it make more sense to adjust the weight and feel of the sword to adjust the weight by hollow grinding in line with the cutting edge and not put a ptential harddned spine into the tang?
Beautiful craftmanship, and very nice effort. However it is not a Katana, and the 漢字 does not make any sense at all. Its like engraving"twinkle twinkle little star", very bizarre.
Nice one sword. Its a katana, through its blade is slightly wide, have no hamon. In fact, it has some charcteristics of chinese sabers such as handles, profile of blades.
Beautiful work like usual but a katana has a special system to stick the blade to the handle that is not like normal swords are done, you might want to look into it.
This sword is not a katana. It was "folded" into 3 parts at each stage and is made of the same metal. It's just a crooked sword without the "shigane" core, which is responsible for absorbing impact and providing malleability.
@@user-kh7kking There is the word "katana" in the title of the video. The sword is made like a katana, it looks like a katana. maybe it was worth making a katana and not a craft similar to it?

Why do they always give it the Damascus title? Damascus steel was lost on pages of history. No one knows actually how to repeat the process to do a Damascus Steel... The blade you did in this video is just steel folded many times to give it a special pattern of "damascus". In it self it's not even as strong as supposedly damascus steel or having her properties.
Another member of the secret magic Damascus steel sect. The secret of Damascus steel was not LOST, it was THROWN into the dustbin of history as unnecessary. The damasking method was needed when steel was extremely heterogeneous in carbon composition (the result of imperfections in metallurgy at that time). It was necessary to repeatedly fold and reforge the workpiece for an acceptable distribution of carbon over the workpiece. after they started smelting better steel, damasking simply became UNNECESSARY. and the "famous" Damascus steel pattern was a byproduct of imperfect polishing techniques and materials.
It's not a katana. He misnamed the video. It's a 2-handed saber of some sort which resembles a katana, but has a significantly wider blade and a completely different handle design.
Oh No…! 😱 Quick…you need to jump on a plane and come to Tokyo immediately to tell the managers of the 日本美術刀剣保存協会 (you’re clearly an expert on the subject, so no need to translate that for you, right?🤔) that their appraisers, who have been studying Japanese swords longer than you have been alive, are all wrong(!!), and the National Treasure swords, and other blades in their museum that have bo-hi (NOT a “bLoOd gRooVe”, 🤦🏼♂️) aren’t real katanas!!! 🙄🙄🙄

Огромная тяжелая сабля. Не катана. Очень широкое лезвие. Непонятно зачем сделан дамаск. Огромная ручка. Очень тяжелый. Очень.
Great job. It's not easy to make a piece like that. I'd gladly buy a smaller handmade blade. Cheers from Finland!
