    Late to it again. I love the return of the mysterious beings and the idea of this weird redemptive process. I do wonder what the two women did to be put in the painting. A wonderful story of many emotions and skillfully told. Thank you.

    Delightfully mysterious throughout with enough questions left over to justify a second listening to glean further meaning. Always thrilled to hear a story that leaves me asking questions such as “What is the precise role that this ‘little girl’ plays here?” And “Generally speaking, wtf just happened?”

    Just wanna say I really appreciate the work ethic here. Lots of narrators breathe and shuffle papers. I’d just like to say I really respect the impressive vocal range (accents) and allowing us to discover weird fiction we otherwise may have missed.

    When I heard the voal effect in Spirit Photographer in this collection...I thought it was a voice on the bus! Someone just to the back of me saying something. Then I thougt "...was that the story?!" and I heard another voice and realized yes. I was just blown away. The production value was top notch, and I loved that story in this bakers dozen, as I am a photographer, and have a fascination with supernatural/ghostly stories :)

    I like to space out my visits to Horror Babble for the simple reason that I love seeing how many unheard episodes have accumulated in my absence and then I have a feast which lasts for days. • @TheMultiverseNomad
    @TheMultiverseNomad 2 года назад +1

    This feels very haphazard. Individually, the stories could have been a set of fairly interesting vignettes, but taken as a whole it comes across as a half-hearted attempt to fuse a number of unconnected story fragments which the author couldn't find a use for into a barely cohesive whole using a vaguely and non-specific ominous background setting.
    This is most readily apparent in regards to the 'woman in the painting' segments. Taken separately from the others, this would have been a pleasant little horror tale with an amusingly ironic twist ending. When thrown into the hodgepodge mixture of the other tales, it is discordant. The thief boyfriend, the only character in the story who definitely did wrong, gets away, while the girlfriend is punished for his slights and the friend likewise.
    On its own, this would have been a fairly typical horror story, possibly including an epilogue of the newly freed painted woman seeking after the thief so as to result in a complete set of supernatural deaths. When taken as part of the larger story, it reads more as author vengeance against a somewhat obtrusive ex-girlfriend and a Hide Your Gays ending.
    While this is the most jarring and thematically contradictory hanging plot thread, it is not the only one. Altogether, this would have worked better as a number of individual stories more fully fleshed out, and the overlying plot of the Shadow Man left entirely to suggestion until a more complete story involving the occult seeker and what lay beyond the vaulted door could have been developed.

    • @HorrorBabble
      @HorrorBabble  2 года назад

      Thanks for giving it a shot, BIOS. I hate the 'obtrusive ex-girlfriend' implication -- that certainly wasn't the intention... but that's what happens when you leave a tale open to interpretation, eh? Again, thanks for listening.
