- To celebrate the recent 2 Year Anniversary of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, I wanted to craft my definitive take on the first game in the Remake series.
Seemed like the proper way to kickoff this channel.
I likely have seen some of you on Twitter or in the Twitch chats of some of the amazing creators below. On a personal note, I want to thank them for opening my mind even more about what Square Enix is likely doing with the Remake series and it's because of them that I've finally taken the leap to develop content of my own.

Initially, when the game came out, I refused to play it for more than a year.😅
I was mad about some of the changes that were revealed.
But then, when I finally was playing it, I enjoyed most of the changes.😶
The new possibilities are creating a great tension, even months after I have finished the game.
Now I'm all in.
We should enjoy the ride.
It may not end how we would like it to end, or it may end very satisfying.
Nonetheless, that shouldn't stop us from having a great time though.
Same. The only thing I've officially published regarding my opinion on the game was just after I had finished it and it was less than complimentary. After digging deeper and interacting with the community that surrounding the game I've discovered a newfound respect and am excited for the future ahead.
Speaking of how it may end up, i just posted a new video with some thoughts on how they might use Zack in Rebirth and Part 3. I've already thought additional scenarios since uploading it last night, but look forward to seeing your thoughts.
When Cloud hears Hojo, i dont think its the whispers blocking it out. I think its his fragile mind or even the Jenovah Cells preventing it from him (us) knowing the truth.
I loved every minute of it.
I’ve replayed this game literally 7 times, I’m getting ready to make it 8 Saturday. I’ve watched several RUclipsrs play throughs of the game, I’ve seen every trailer several times over, and I’ve watched certain scenes on RUclips countless times as well……
And I’m still loving this game.
Wow. I have only done 3 times, but I’ve watched literally dozens of playthroughs. I’m really glad that it had lived on with us so well. Can’t wait to see what they’re going to make me obsessively replay and rewatch in Part 2. The Nibelheim flashback is going to HIT.

I did the same exact thing you described here. I was always a huge fan of ff7 and the compilation since 1997. I grew up with it. After Remake I loved Max ideas and I watched the Easy Allies and Dropped Frames videos multiple times. Then I discovered Sleepezi's channel and BBSeal. All these amazing content creators made my experience with Remake 100000 times better. So much better that now I am looking forward to Rebirth not only for the absolute curiosity of seeing how things will develop, but also for the huge hype it will bring and for the amazing content that those people will provide. Let me say, you are now on the list (just followed your channel) and I hope to hear more of theories from you too. Amazing storytelling, very nice voice, humble enough to praise the others creators. You have all you need to be part of the gang! Best luck to you and your channel and hope to discuss more soon! :)

I agree with everything you said, and yes everyone has been so great at contributing to the lore and story. Like you, their content has helped me get really excited for the future as well.
Yeah. I felt this vague unsatisfaction with the direction of the series up until about 6 months ago when I first discovered them. I just had such a hard time reconciling how beautifully crafted 95% of Part 1 was with the notion they didn't really know where this was heading (their words) or that they were going to embrace the absolute nonsense that comprises so much of the Compilation. The level of quality between the two was too vast to make sense.
I'm truthfully a bit nervous when I get deep in Sleepezi's stuff, for example (hence the final caption where I say I may regret this). It's good, and it makes sense, but I'm fearful of too much of the nonsense from the Compilation bleeding into the next entries that it drags all of it down. BUT I think they're trying to make Remake more inspired and informed by the Compilation rather than really bring much of the wild stuff directly into it. Even the way they've started to with the Yuffie DLC was really well done.
@@SubTXT_ I have confidence in this team. It's got a lot of pressure from a business and market perspective, not to mention the fan base, and honestly there isn't a single group more qualified than Kitase, Nomura, etc. I'm all in, no matter the direction they take. I just want the story they want to bring us, and not alter their story for the sake of fans. That never turns out well.
@@Phantomyre yeah, I’ve mostly had faith, but without the “grounding” that someone like Sleepezi helped provide, you can let the uncertainty creep in about how well it’s all been thought out. Sleepezi especially just really helped settle my nerves that there’s a LOT behind what they’re doing.

Excellent first video! Thank you for sharing your love and thoughts on FF7 and 7 Remake. I am also very excited for the future and really, really interested to see where the story is going. I have faith that at the very least it will be memorable.
Hahaha, yeah I don't think they'll have much trouble making it memorable. It's been eating my brain since 2020.

7 remake was my first ff game. Then I beat 7 original, and just beat 10. 10 is by far my favorite, and I really hope they remake it as well
I only played through this game twice on PS4: once Normal, once Hard. Got the Platinum too!
Really want to explore the game again and play the Yuffie expansion on PS5 before diving into Rebirth.

The only real problem I have with this game is the padding and tedium. Examples: slow walking to "enjoy the scenery", slow crawling through the vents, "NOW YOU HAVE TO DO THIS THING BEFORE YOU HAVE FUN!"
I just wish they had streamlined this game a little more. But other than that, I love the remake.

YES! I spent several minutes trying to figure out the "secret" to getting down there, only to give up disappointed.
On the point of exploring more of Midgar, maybe we’ll get that in Part 3 - parachute in at a distance and have to really fight our way in through a new sector . Tifa did hint about showing Cloud around that sector when they were turning out the sun lamps.

I just found your channel and am loving your videos. Subscribed. I've watched this one and you're latest from May 2023 so far. They're really well produced and thoughtful. I'm Team Maximilian Dood with the dual-timeline plot theories, but I'm trying to stay up on the other takes out there and welcome whatever the Kitase and Nomura's team are scheming. I know it sounds kinda goofy saying this about a game with plot ghosts and Cloud slicing trains in half while flying through space, but the dual-timelines seems to be the simplest explanation and backed up pretty directly by the developer's own quotes and the Ultimania. Occam's Razor, yadda yadda.

Before ff7 remake, I hadn’t loved a game this much since Skyrim on 360.
2 things I want for Rebirth:
1) Improvements to Classic Mode, to feel closer to Turn-Based.
2) Let us push a button to trigger NPC dialogue. I hate it in this game (and Persona 5), how I have to run away from an NPC and then back to them, to get them to start talking again. It's bizarre. I know they did this because they expect people to just run past, instead of paying attention to what every single person is saying...but I WANT to pay attention to what every single person is saying...
I loved Remake, and I agree with you about the characters, and plot changes. Its amazing we get such powerful nostalgia and celebration of OG, but are also on the edge of our seats uncertain of what's to come!
Do you happen to know which specific video from Sleepezi that presents the Terrier timeline at 11:54?
The most direct is the Memories one, I believe. But I also watched so many of his chats with Schrodinger’s Baby Seal that it might be mixed in one of those

I beat the remake once and never played it after that. I've played the original countless times throughout my whole life though.
I get what they're trying to do, attract both new and old fans with the remake. But it only thing I could take away from it after beating it was: "It was really cool to see them all in modern graphics."
I'll play pt 2 when it comes out though just to see it through

I usually try to apply Occhams razor when it comes to super complicated theories, especially around weird time shit, but I have a hard time deciding if one time-line or multiple-timelines are more complex in this situation.

i don't have a problem with the remake whatsoever but i won't be playing it. the original was more than good enough for me. i've played it through several times and continue to come back to it. the only significant difference for me, personally, would be the graphical update but when i think about it the original, while polygonal, was good enough for my imagination to soar and i'm obviously not alone in that thinking as it achieved a multitude of awards. the graphics clearly didn't hold it back. so what else is there? and updated battle system? original one is one of my favorites. a slightly altered and developed storyline? i'd prefer to keep that intact tbh. i just don't see the point to this game - but that's just me. i've heard many fans of the original sing its praises and i'm happy for y'all enjoying it! :)
@Kristian Rasmussen alot of reasons. One to improve on the original, especially the dialogue. That's what remakes do,improves the original. I consider this more a sequel, than a remake. My one criticism, is no blood.the original, blood was,everywhere & now its gone.with this remake, they can do more deep dives into these characters, that they couldn't do in the original. Tell more story details that the original couldn't. Like,lucerica. I bet will have character development, unlike the original. But,I'm not gonna convince u that a remake was needed or try to get u to play it.but,this is more than just a graphical upgrade

I liked the appearance of this game in an era of translational errors. I found them charming and they allowed the culture to peer through the drab English writing I've grown used to over the years. How could it possibly be considered a sequel, though? It's the same exact story and characters, retold. It is definitely anything but a sequel....and a remake actually improving the original is still just a matter of opinion.
I wish I would've done this. I played the remake and I wish I didn't. What you're missing is not worth it.
I bought this today. I have never played a Final Fantasy game ever.
OG FF7 was pretty much my life when I younger. Playing through that game distracted me from a rough childhood. Needless to say I lost it when Remake was announced. But alas, I did NOT enjoy how it ended at all. And it dampened my enthusiasm for whatever comes next. It’s just not what I had hoped for and that’s fine I guess.
Massive mixed feelings about the remake, most anticipated game when it got announced. Once I got my hands on it, parts of it where some of squares best work in years, the characters and combat.
It’s just I can’t shake off the feeling of dread the final segments introduce with all the “kingdom hearts bullshittery” that starts happening.
It’s clear this isn’t the game square said it was, so I felt baited after purchase as this is NOT a remake but a ff7 2.
I’ll keep an eye on rebirth but will wait till it hits pc, so but then I’ll have looked a reviews to see how far into madness it goes.
I want to love it but really can’t get over the final chapters sorry xD
Think of it less of a sequel or an adaptation, and more a conversation. Imagine it as having a conversation with the original.

I dislike some of the discourse around the plot now because people are trying to say that the whispers were always in the original and that it’s some sort of masterful storytelling.
It’s infuriating because Remake is an adaptation with its own canon. Nothing that happens in it can be used to explain the original.
They should of called this game rogue Galaxy or final fantasy 7/2
Still waiting for someone to explain to me who has "come back to life" and how Zack isn't dead still (which would crazily fit in with the story).
I highly suggest checking out the Sleepezi channel. It's a LOT though, as most vids are over an hour. The gist is that Zack surviving was something that Fate/The Whispers ensured happen. You can see them flying around in the background as Zack faces the army. With Cloud and the party defeating fate, it undoes all of what the Whispers did throughout time, including Zack's death and presumably also Bigg's death. So basically, the party enters "the singularity" in Ch 18 - a sorta meta-universe copy of the world - and when they re-emerge, they come back into the world as it would exist if Fate and the Whispers NEVER intervened in ANYTHING -- meaning Zack lives, Biggs lives, and so on. Even the guy who designed the Stamp character ended up being a different person who came up with a different design, which is why Stamp in the new (and only) "Zack lives" timeline is a terrier instead of a beagle. Essentially, killing the Whispers had a massive ripple effect that recreated reality as we know it.

I understand the context behind the alternate timeline theory you refer to.
However, nothing you've said is known. Literally nothing.
Is the Stamp design different? Yes. Is it the only one that exists in that reference frame? Unknown. Does this mean it's a different reality? Unknown.
You infer that it replaces the previous one from a very blatent, and in your face, display. I would counter that this with the fact this is far more likely to be a red herring.
How do you know Zack is alive?
Why does his armour become unmarked and injuries magically vanish when he's outside the Church?
Why is there a bright light behind Zack when he enters the Church?
Why are all the people seen running underneath the falling plate present in the Church, sobbing?
Why in Crisis Core does Zacks last stand start when it is sunny and concludes when it is dark skied and raining, yet when we see Zack "survive" it's still sunny and only begins raining when an injured Zack carries Cloud towards Midgar? (To note, in CC there is a cut away break between Zack fighting troops when it is sunny and fighting the final 3 troops where it is overcast).
I put it to you that we see Zack alive after fighting a first wave of troops. He picks up Cloud and continues towards Midgar. Prior to arrival there are further troops and at this point Zack makes his final stand. Zack's attendance at the Church takes place in the Lifestream.
This fits all the questions above. It fits with the story (which the Devs have already said there will be no major changes to - so far there have been 0 changes to the overarching story). It makes sense. How do you explain the countless paradoxes the alternate timeline theory gives rise to? It will completely change the dynamic of the game that Zack is now rocking around. What would make sense and not be at odds with the story/lore? Zack playing a part in defeating Sephiroth from within the Lifestream. Far more interesting, logical and believable.
@@InterruptedByFireW I don't know if the chip bag is a red herring. I think it would be almost cruel as a storyteller for them to put that much focus on it. Also, if you look around the real world logos DO change, but rarely do they change dramatically. For example, the Pringles guy recently changed, but is still pretty identifiable compared to the old one. Changing the entire breed of the dog is a very big change. It'd be like if Tony the Tiger became a lion with a giant mane. I don't really see something like that happening often IRL. And presumably the Avalanche artist who drew it throughout the subway stations was basing the design of a pretty well-established one. I know Max Dood found every example of the chip bag throughout Part 1 and they were all Beagles. I think the chip bag on Jesse's mom's dinner table in Chapter 4 even says "Original Flavor" on it, but still has the beagle.
I DO think Zack is alive. I understand that a lot of people make the comparison of the giant light behind him as you did, but if he is just in some form of afterlife, then it would be yet another bait and switch. It just wouldn't be satisfying to make all of that just an afterlife/dream/lifestream manifestation. You're right that there's no way to know definitively until they give us answers in Part 2 (or maybe even Part 3), but the end of the Yuffie DLC really makes it seem like he's standing in Sector 5 at the church given you do see the opposite side of the door (from the outside). Sunlight can also just have that effect when coming from a dark area. If you remember first stepping out of Cloud's apartment during the day in Chapter 3, the light is a bit blinding at first.
As for the Crisis Core question... I don't have an answer for that one haha. Maybe they just reinterpreted it? It does seem like it started raining when he's walking away with Cloud. And yeah Potentially Zack can fight Sephiroth if he's in some physical form of the lifestream, but the lifestream as described in other pieces of fiction like Lifestream White and Lifestream Black doesn't sound like it has such a physical form. It says that the Sephiroth consciousness in the Lifestream needs Cloud's memories in order for him to to manifest in a physical form in front of Cloud because Sephiroth doesn't fully remember it (or something to that effect). This is the part where all of the lore of FF7 starts hurting my brain though haha.
They confirmed in the ultimecia book it's the fifth installment in the compilation.
It's a parallel universe plot. I hope it's not as stupid as Sephiroth dissapearing from advent children and going back in time in another parallel universe. ( He says he'll never be a memory in advent before dematerializing ).
Zacks survival Fate/The Whisper ensured Zacks survival to happen, maybe people look into stuff waaay to much, or perhaps the devs wanted Zack to survive due to the fact that remake is a marketing mashup game, which the lore divers blatantly ignore. The whisper however, represent all those who wanted a 1/4/1 of the original game, just a machanic added by Square Enix and nothing more, to stop fate/destiny from changing...but...
Did that ever cross your minds aswell when people make fan fiction theories? Which isn't included in the lore, it's added content to make the FFVII universe sound more interesting, sometimes cringy, it's make believe.
Everybody wanted Square to remake/release/sequel to Crisis Core, now everybody is getting a Crisis Core/sequel another example of marketing.
Another game which is getting a reboot is Dirge of Cerberus, they knew everybody hated that game, and now it's getting a reboot, the fact that remake occurs after the changed events of Advent Children/Dirge of Cerberus, or/and alongside Dirge of Cerberus, or perhaps that is what remake actually is, the otherside of the coin of that version of Dirge of Cerberus, the parts never shown or existed until remake.
Remake has been labelled the latest part of the compilation to the original FFVII and has now became a sequel, after chapter 18 of remake/after the events of Intergrade.
The Harbinger was a representation of Jenova, what I like to call a virtual Jenova, the fact that you fight this thing in a place dubbed the singularity where all time and space does not exist, which connects to Aerith's lifestream, would suggest a computer simulation, ever heard of the hypothetical simulation theory?
Synaptic net dive and all that bolloxxx, a neurological research programme that connects to the lifestream, like a illusionary drug, and is remake Aerith a actual AI just as Chadley was created by Hojo, who activates a digital Weiss.
Square Enix needed a way to recreate Aerith's iconic scene even if og Aerith is already apart of the lifestream going by all source material and the song Hollow.
Thats why memories and dreams is a pivotal factor to remake, reunion plays a major part aswell, and will either Zack or Cloud be the sacrificial sacrifice at worlds end to reunite with Aerith or will it be Tifa?
I'm hype for the potential of whatever Square Enix throw at us for future parts, depends on how they pull it off or by how many parts, the latest part of the compilation will have, I say 5 parts minimun, each part an act of Loveless of sorts, ending with a sacrificial sacrifice, at worlds end, yes a genesis reference, you could say Dirge of Cerberus was fore shadowing how remake potentially might end with Omega.

Bringing everyone back to life is the worst thing they could have ever done. Who wants a story where there are no stakes and the charaters are so awesome they defeat the main bad guy in the first act. Now nothing is going to make sense. I feel like it could be salvaged if they allow player choices to determine the story to a greater extent than they ever have before. Like if some choices lead to the og storyline and some lead to Nomruras ff7 fan fiction. Seems like to much to hope for at this point though.

I liked the characters but i hated this game. I haven't touched it since i beat it and was so let down i had no real interest in trying again
