Man I still think dare iz is above the rest. I don't do drugs cuz of that album. Does all the tripping for me. Amazing production and an atmosphere unrivaled in 94. I understand why muddy waters and even whut are above it though, more grounded and less grandiose in its mission. But that's why I love dare iz a darkside, it's without a doubt one of the few rap albums that effortlessly crossed genres and still makes for an unforgettable listen.

It’s hard to call it for me. Red’s first three albums are all flawless classics as far as I’m concerned, but if I was pressed to choose only one, I think I’d go with Dare as well. Something about the vibe it gives off. Gritty and earthy but bonkers and spaced out at the same time somehow. That album travels the universe before bringing it back home. And it’s funky funky funky. Whatever happened to Redman around that time had to have been major for him to completely abandon this project. You don’t make greatness like this just to leave it behind and never turn back.

I would honestly put Whut! Thee Album as my #1 spot but I can't argue anyone who would put Muddy Waters as theirs, it comes down to personal preference and the reason Redman is my favourite rapper is I feel happy and have a smile on my face the whole time and no Redman album is the epitome of that feeling in me more than Whut! I love the happy feeling of the funk samples, I like the slick jokes that makes it feel like I've been relocated to Red's hood in Jersey and he's just joking around and shooting the shit with me. It's kind of like rap's Friday to me, in the Friday was about the hood but it wasn't all about poverty, gangs and violence, it was about real people showing a slice of life story about a real day in the hood with friends hanging around and jokes being shared, not glorified poverty porn but real people, real patter and real conversations. That's the feeling I got listening Whut! I kind of get that feeling with all Red albums but it felt most natural here, it wasn't an album about the media's exaggerated "ghetto" hood, just an album about Redman and how we exists in his neighbourhood not "the hood" just his neighbourhood. I also think Red deserves more shine cause for an artist to make albums that really gives you a feel for the character of Redman yet he has no "serious" or "personal" songs (like a Cleaning Out My Closet, Suicidal Thoughts, Dear Momma or any of the super personal songs on Royce Da 5'9's Book of Ryan) which is hard to do from skits and persona alone.

Dare Iz A Darkside is a sacred album to me. The beats go hard af. The basslines and the basses used are just insane! Even the Leon Haywood sample on Rockafella is put to better use than on Nuttin But A G Thang. If I remember correctly it's the last album that Erick Sermon produced like this before switching his production style to plain boring. Bomb album and #1 on my Redman list.

7:25 Whateva Man was originally Erick Sermon's song. Erick Sermon said “That was for my album, for Double or Nothing. It was my song. He liked it a lot. And he was singing some of my verses. I can't remember right now [which parts were mine originally]. But he was keeping a lot of my lines, and then adding his. He took the full song of mine, and kept adding to it. And for some reason he kept that one part with me rhyming. I'm not even in the video. I'm like, 'Red, why'd you keep that?' And he was like, 'I like that.' And then me and my friend were doing the, 'Bam bam, dee bam dee dee dee bam.' That was all me. But the Whateva Man title was all his. That was what he wanted to do. He liked the record. It wasn't a big deal for me. He liked it, so I gave it to him.”

In that time period, the album was rumored to be titled Re-Vended. In two interviews, Redman mentioned he did 10 tracks with Scott Storch and 4 with Timbaland. As a Jersey guy, i agree with this list 100%. I feel Red peaked with Muddy Waters. Every album after that (minus Reggie, which was definitely a miss) he updated the MW formula & tweaked it a bit.

7:35 Redman said the part about Parrish Making Dollars at the end of the song Soopaman Luva 3 isn't a diss, he already had that story already in pocket and when EPMD broke up it looked as if it was a diss "The door opened, I snatched him up for no reason. Gave him a two piece with a biscuit. Laid him out, Oh shit, it was that nigga Parrish Smith" Parrish Making Dollars took it as a diss and dissed Redman in his song It's The Pee '97
