    I'd like to publicly offer a retraction for talking about J. Cole jumping ship. Upon further review, this doesn't feel like friendly sparring or purely a business type of thing between Drake & Kendrick. At a certain point an audience becomes to familiar with each rappers families for it not to be at least *a little personal. I will be giving Jermaine a pass cause I'd also very much like to be excluded from that narrative if I was in his shoes🤠 edit: *this was prior to catching up on all the songs. extremely personal. He big bro'd me ngl I was very wrong smart to get out the way damn

    Drake is an all-time great, but none of Drakes albums are as good a GKMC, TPBF, DAMN or MMAHS. They simply are not. This is like Beyonce and Taylor. Taylor is the bigger, more popular artist, but Beyonce makes better music. At the end of the day, it comes down to who makes better music, and it's Kendrick.
    Finally, "Like That" is best song of the diss songs. Kendrick and Metro still clear Drake's diss.

    This back and forth dissing is all a publicity stunt in order for the artists to stay relevant and boost sales.
    Even Drake, himself, stated that some who throw shots at him are friendly to him behind closed doors.
    Why is everyone-even the esteemed NYTimes-falling for this? To boost their own presence, perhaps.

    Wait. John says Kendrick isn’t on Drake’s level and I’m sure there’s a metric for that or whatever. But Drake isn’t on Kendrick’s level as an MC because he’s had writers write his raps. That’s always been seen as a disqualification from the MC debate. Just this week, at least two new reference tracks leaked. I respect Drake as an all-time artist, but when we’re talking about MCs, it’s not a debate.

  • @Eyephere

    17:22 John says Kendrick is not on Drake’s level by some metric, but Drake isn’t on Kendrick’s level for the simple fact that he has writers and, to the extent of what is known, Kendrick does not. So if we’re talking music, sure, but if we’re talking rappers, MCs, Drake can’t touch Dot because he has been disqualified from that conversation.

    John says Kendrick isn’t on Drake’s level and I’m sure there’s a metric for that or whatever but Drake isn’t on Kendrick’s level as an MC for the simple fact that he has writers who have written his raps. So I agree with John that there is no big 3 but I disagree with his why.

    Sorry guys but this the most basic conversation on this topic that been heard. You really should have brought in some of your black colleagues to help provide context from a cultural perspective. Rap beef/hip hop wars is about respect. Saying that only Drake has something to lose (or furthest to fall) is so far off the mark. The Big Three is a thing because they have respect for their achievements and consistency over time. They (and everyone who considers themselves part of the game) has RESPECT to lose. Which is what we are seeing with J Cole. Do you even understand hip hop culture?

      But their whole argument is that the big 3 isn’t real, and nobody outside that bubble cares. Which is partially true. They’re allowed to bring that outside perspective imo 🤷🏾‍♂️ we’re gonna gate keep how people discuss music?

    • @munee17
      @munee17 2 месяца назад +5

      @@nameisamine it’s called critiquing not gatekeeping. This discussion misses the point in a huge way I want to call that out. Don’t gate keep my critique.
