- After the independence of India, Mir Osman Ali, Nizam of Hyderabad approached the British government with a request to take on the status of an independent constitutional monarchy within the Commonwealth of Nations. The request was, however, rejected by the last Viceroy of India. In November 1947, Hyderabad signed a standstill agreement with the dominion of India.

My Regiment Shri Kali Prasad Gana had participated in the Hyderabad Action. General Sharda Sumsher was the son of Mohan Sumshere. Crown Prince Karan Singh of Jammu Kashmir was close ally of Pandit Nehru in the Congress party and son in law of Shards Sumsher. Thus the family n political connection also were the major factors of the Nepali Army's participation.
Two Rifle Companies of the Nepali Army were sent as dowry with General Sharda's daughter's marriage to Karan Singh. They became part of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles of the Indian Army. And even now the Nepali people form a bulk of the JAK RIF of the Indian Army.
Recent aborragation of Article 370 helped the Nepali families sent as dowry gained citizenship in Kashmir.

Very interesting . Indians should know this because they always demean Nepalese and the contribution of Nepalese to built their country and once the country is unified and built that strength is used for their benefit . Poor nepal my country !
