Goodness gracious, in a span between April 1994 and January 1997, Square released, among other titles, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy VII. That's just an incredible run.
As someone who never played the original ( never even heard of it tbh ), there is a certain charm that the original has. Could be the choice of color palettes.
It does make you wonder how the team wanted the og one to look like how the remake looks, but due to its limitation’s it wasn’t possible. It’s beautiful to see
The remake does an excellent job in re-imagining an old game to fit the modern era and concurrent designs. In the process it lost a lot of charm that made the SNES title unique. Unfortunately the lighting is very monotonous, poor contrast and few dark scenes. Textures/materials are tame and low-frequency resulting in a very smooth/round appearance. The original renders on the other hand were subject to harsher lighting (less ambiance), creating darker shadows and contrast. Furthermore the fixed sprite color limit on the SNES roughened up the results, creating "edge" and a more textured look. The audio follows the same trend, it's a very produced sound design but, once again, doesn't have the same edge found in the original. For example the "clank" in the hammer sound, or Mario's fireballs. Personally felt some of the instrumentation produced a more light-hearted and upbeat tone to the soundtrack. Booster Tower on the SNES is rather melancholic/lonely, the produced sound of the remake is in a different key, while beautiful the sound it portrays is different from the OG. The remake is very cohesive and well-meshed in design but would argue some will find it rather generic/boring. It's bright, colorful, easy to look at with sounds that won't grate your ears. TLDR: The remake lacks the edge and grit of the original.
Too bad this game didn't got a sequel back in the day because Nintendo broke their relationship with Square. Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi are great series, but SMRPG is something special and timeless
Nope. It's harder in ways. There are special enemies that are way harder that randomly appear, and the timed hits were generally made different and harder to trip up old-comers. Do not write this remake off without playing it lol
@@JeanKP14 Well, looking at the comparison video, enemies seem to take more damage, and attacks deal splash damage for no apparent reason. Also hearing new mechanics like Triple Attacks and Chain make the game too easy.
Not really. This is not the best comparison, a lot of enemies have new animations. It is true that less frames in animations makes things have more oomph depending though.
Well when games like re4 remake are coming to cell phones its kinda moot at this point to claim. It's the switch, still below last gens graphics. They've gotten their mileage out of it though.

True and they can't do anything like that nowadays. It's horrible remakes and just bland boring games.

Mario for real is killing it this year. Nintendo got bangers
Man can't wait excited to play it soon today.
It's gonna be a Rollercoaster of Nostalgia
The OG version still puts up a fight with the new version.
@@reincarnationa1525 So why don't you enlighten us as to which engine would have made it better and why?

So amazing how far graphics have come in 27 years
This is almost ps 2 graphics .
The graphics back then were not bad either honestly. Aged pretty well, especially with the help of emulation
@halkill8801 the rage bait is crazy
Never played this before but that graphical improvement sold me. Ill be picking this up soon

OG version is more square-enix feeling, while remake is more nintendo style
Squaresoft feeling. This game is before the fusion
Notice how the peace sign was changed for a hat tip because miyamoto hates mario doing the peace sign cause hes weird lol
its not a peace sign its a v for victory in chinese
Part of the charm of the original version (and quite possibly almost all of the classic Square(Enix) titles was in its simplicity.
One of my dearest childhood games getting a remake ❤️😖
There's only one thing that they forgot: the moment where Geno comes to life.
It does make you wonder how the team wanted the og one to look like how the remake looks, but due to its limitation’s it wasn’t possible. It’s beautiful to see
This is the best kind of remake. Where its thr same game only improved visuals.
Wish there was a classic mode in the remake that lets you play the game with the old graphics
The music is so awesome. What a huge remake for Nintendo 😮😮
Mario RPG was originally developed by Squaresoft and the last Mario game release for the SNES
Spoiler alert: One is a remake, and one is the original.
Buh
Spoiler alert
At a certain site you can pirate this game free.
Thanks. You ruined the mystery for everyone.
Wow dude you had to ruin it for everyone smh

Now do it with Chrono Trigger
Heheh.
In the original, Mario's house is called the Pipe House.
Mario you dawg.
It's like looking at the same picture
Mario and Luigi was a great continuation even if it wasn't made by square. The animations are so funny
Not sure if but a Mario Sunshine remake for me would be 🔥
Already got one from 3D All Stars.

I'm actually more impressed with the 1996 version

Only 27 years later? It was about time nintendo! 😅😅😅 so glad might buy switch only for this lol
why does the sword looks like he got downs
amazing comparison
Nintendo knows the assignment and gets it done. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it but when Nintendo fixes it, they make it 10 times better.
