Great choice Dean! You’re going to love the sideshow one! I completely forgot about the boots too, the split cut sculpted boots is a big win

I have an old legends of the sith sideshow figure. He’s massive and imposing. Looks great and it cost me £50 from a seller on FB. He doesn’t have light up features but that’s fine as I wouldn’t use it anyway. He’s old and doesn’t have any pleather cracking or anything

The truth about the pleader is that it is a way to implement a planned obsolescence on the products. Since Hottoys collectors keep buying these they will not change something that benefit them greatly. This is the reason I dont buy Hot toys, I dont want to keep a figure worth 300-400€ standing with the arms hanging.

I ordered the Vader from the Kenobi show last month. Having the burned Hayden Christensen sculpt as an option was a must for me.

I've been collecting sixth scale since 2008. And I haven't had one single issue with flaking. I live in the Midwest, Illinois. So the climate is constantly changing.
However.. I do use a dehumidifier and I monitor the air quality.

You definitely made the right choice by choosing the Sideshow version of Darth Vader. I look forward to watching the review. By the way, you make a great point when it comes to Hot Toys utilizing pleather for their 1/6th scale figures. They don't do it just because pleather is cheaper. They do it because it's much tougher to make actual leather thinner. It also makes figures a lot bulkier as well. Utilizing real leather means having to deal with the grain size, which looks awkward on a 1/6th scale piece. Pleather may be more accurate than actual leather, but it comes at the cost of durability. However, Hot Toys can definitely utilize better quality pleather, especially given how expensive the figures are. What's the point of spending a lot of money on a high end collectible figure if the pleather material is going to deteriorate in a couple of years or so? Thanks, Dean! I really appreciate the hard work! Keep it up! God bless and stay safe!

I still have my rogue 1 vader, it is still on good shape but that's because I rarely pose it. My terminator 1, terminator salvation john connor, punisher jacket, and a few others that have pleather that I've had for 5+ years are starting to go or have turned to dust already. It sucks. The terminator 2 DX13 is still in great shape but that is a different material, thy should be using that for everything as I've had it for 7 years and posed the hell out of it and its still perfect. I think you made a great choice with he sideshow figure, can't wait for your review!

I have the ESB Darth Vader. In my opinion the most iconic version. The Hot Toys one is great and has a awesome base.
I wouldn't worry about the pleather, hot toys has become better quality wise. I had zero issues with them.
Additionally sideshow bodies are terrible and it would be hard to find a matching body for vader I assume.

I recently purchased the Sideshow version of Darth Vader. Very, very happy here. I'm finalizing the construction of a diorama with a 3D printed mouse droid. I posted a video on my channel. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the figure when it comes.

I have the 40th Empire Strikes Back and the Sideshow one as well, no issues with custom with neither of one of them on Sideshow the body is a bit loseon the legs but nothing mayor that prevents ot from standing on it's own, Sideshow show piece isa good one and taller than hot toys one and thatmakes it stand out a bit more. And the cape it is 10 times better on the Sideshow figure drapes beautifully you'll love it!

I’ve owned this figure twice. Sold it twice.
Maybe I’ve gotten 2 bad ones in a row… but for some reason the neck and head peg is loose which causes it too look like he’s constantly looking down.
The two silver pegs on his mask, one of them was always missing.
Otherwise it’s a good pick up.

I have most of the 1/6 scale Vader figures and the only issue I've had with my Sideshow Vader is that the underbody is a bit difficult to pose. It definitely feels like the base body isn't as flexible as the hot toys version and the hips/legs are difficult to pose. I don't want to use too much force and risk breaking the leg joint under the costume, which happened with my Sideshow Harley Quinn. Also, the wiring for the chest box and belt occasionally comes untucked. Other than those few issues it looks great and is prominently featured I'm my Star Wars display. The price was under $200 US if I recall, I know that I purchased it brand new a few years ago. The cape drapes very nicely and it definitely has a nice shelf presence. It absolutely towers over the ANH hot toys version. Hope you enjoy it as well 😎👍Cheers 🍻

Hey Dean unrelated to the video but I got a Hot Toys 1/4 Batman begins figure but there was marking on the paint. I decided to spray paint the suit charcoal grey and purchased an unreal customs 1/4 scale headsculpt and cape. It's the same one you have just upscaled and your videos inspired me especially the reference photos. Love your videos keep up the great work!

The Sideshow Vader is underrated compared to the Hot Toys. Which Sideshow did you get. the one in the images is the re-release. The first came out with more extras like an unmasked head, the ones in the pics is more streamlined with what you get in the box. But he's still a decent Vader

This is of course subjective but, I think the ‘Obi-wan’ Vader is the most screen accurate version. The shape of the helmet and the proportions look superior to the others, but that figure is of course overpriced and most likely won’t last. You might have to end up kit-bashing a custom Vader, (similar to your ‘Batman Begins’ Batman). Hope this was somewhat helpful. 👍🏻

    • @danielq_4
      @danielq_4 Год назад +1

What..? The Kenobi Vader proto helmet isn’t even accurate to the suit it’s based on. Hot Toys are literally reusing the Rogue One Vader for their Kenobi version.
Not only that, but all the Vader helmets are different to one another.

But they make brilliant faux leather nowadays, my SecretLab gaming chair has faux leather and I’ve been sitting in it every day for over 2 years now and it’s still perfect. So using that for a little figure should have great wear.

The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader was always my favorite look of Vader. That's when you can notice the changes in his suit and helmet with color and shape. I would get the new Darth Vader figure from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series That's available for pre-order now. I hate the pleather material like in your pics it rots after a while but I think there is a protective spray or something that you can apply to the material to prevent it from rotting a little longer but unfortunately until they start making figures with a better leather type material the outfits and accessories will unfortunately rotting over time but I'm sure you already know this. But my Vader figure pick definitely would be the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series Darth Vader figure. Have a great day my friend Return Of The Jedi is the only Star Wars movie that I saw in the theater cause I was finally old enough to go to the movie theater. And Justin is right about the Sideshow Vader figures suit it does feel alot stronger of a material and more sturdy type material as well. Have a great day my friend and thank you for sharing your videos.

for me i lov emy hot toys vader, i did mod it to make it more better but for me i think the hot toys one's look better but i can see the good points in the sideshow ones, like you sad with the lightsaber and the cape, my hot toys cape is still good but i had to do some things with it. but i cant wait to see your review on the sideshow one and your thoughts about it. also i had no problems let with my suit on my vader and the boots and the one i have is there first vader the new hope one. it is still going.
