When I turned 10 this exact bike was my first! 5 up neutral all the way down! I remember the fork seals were blown so the forks would clank every bump! It was a good bike for a little kid because of the Yamalube. Just pour the gas in and go! No premix for a kid to mess up! Loved the head light. I used to ride the fields across the street until 9-10 every night during summer. My cousin and me fabricated a little ski out of a plastic sled for the winter. Actually worked! Have a lot of memories on that little bike!!
My dad bought me a brand spanking new one in 1981 for my tenth birthday ...I had to pull off all A 's and B's on my report card for an entire year and he gave me one muligen.( I got a c in health?) But it soon had no turn signals and a knobby rear tire lol...ran the hell out of it for maybe 4 years ...sold it for 150bucks ..it was 779 new ... I would Love to find one like that just for old times sake
That’s a cool little bike... my dad bought me a bran new yellow one on June 8th 1973 and brother got killed on it on June 10th 1973.... that was the worst day of my life.... thanks for the video buddy...
When the pins and the surface of the links they rub against wear, the chain effectively lengthens and that's what causes the sprocket's teeth to "bend". It happens to both sprockets, so the chain and both sprockets must be replaced together. If they aren't all replaced, the one that hasn't been changed will cause the others to fail prematurely.
I had one in 1977 at 14 years old and could hit 51' mph.. then again I was only about 125lbs back at that era! Paid $200 dollars or about $900 in today's dollars
ha! reminds me of the MX80 I had, bought it used in the early 1990's, someone replaced the exhaust with an aftermarket street pipe(used as a pit bike I think), it was very clean and I ran the snot out of it, no speedometer but topped out at like 43mph, clocked on road, beside a car and sheriff once 🤣 they made me push it all the way home, while following behind me, it was about a mile and up a huge hill and few rollers, that really sucked, but that was the only punishment I got. 🙃
I had one when I was a kid (before I had my drivers license) and I rode with all my friends that had CR80's and KX80s and there was no comparison. Those bikes were land missiles and in hindsight, I was probably just along for the laughs. I managed to get my hands on a RM250 later on and you really had to pay attention to what you were doing if you had any intention of putting the front wheel back on the ground.
I had 2 of these in the early 90d. It was my first step up from a mini bike with no gears to something with gears and a clutch. I rebuilt both of them but my first one was way faster than the other one . IDK But seemed like my first one would easily hit mid 50s mph but I had no speedometer
Is there a big diffrence between the gt80 and dt80. I have read a forum where it says it has the same basic engine only the plastics disigne is diffrent. So is that true or false?
theres a forum on a site called "yamaha-enduros" lots of great guys there who can help with these old bikes, sometimes site members will have parts to sell but most often they will just help you find a good place to buy. Always check ebay!! I just got a new gas tank off there
I know a lot of starters on like Harley’s kick out and connect with the rear primary gear where the clutch is and starts spinning the motor over and I’ve had some where they won’t connect all the way because the starter is shot and will just spin making a grinding noise. It might also be one of those gears is slipping. I don’t know if that’s the way the Suzuki is but it’s worth looking at the starter area by exposing the clutch.
Hi, I have this same bike that someone gave to me. I trying to repair it because the bike is a mess. It doesn’t have the tachometer nor has the device to put your key in. They cut many cables, and it’s hard to figure where all the electrical connections were supposed to go. So I want to ask you if you have a manual of this bike. Thanks
what did you put in it that made it smell so good? lol i have one of these but all the lights and electrical are stripped from it. trying to find a carb rebuild kit for these are like finding a needle in a hay stack. any chance you might know where I can find a throttle valve? They're discontinued as far as I know.
On the turbo bike try putting it in gear and turning the flywheel a bit and it may disengage the bendix if it’s stuck. Just rock the bike in gear with the clutch out and maybe that will help otherwise you may have to pull the starter
with the xn 85 try bump start it if it does not work replace the battery connection becasue the wires might be old and not giving it the voltage it needs to start.
that was the very first thing everyone disabled and got rid of, the(blow up your bike, oiler system) yeah, it happened all too often, on every brand that had them. still happens to this day on 2-strokes with oiler systems(boats, jet ski's etc.) warning lights fail, people forget to check, something clogs, hose breaks, etc. mixed gas and oil is always the right amount, unless the carb jetting is way off or someone sugars/alcohols your pre-mixed fuel (yeah, I'm still remembering you old neighbor) they cost me and a friend three bike engines, but I'm still here and they're long gone from the area. 🤨
i had a 2000 yz80 that went around 75, raced my cousin on his quad and he was going 70 and i passed right by, i was like o sht, didnt think itd go that fast lol
Btw do you think you have enough RD's? I think that's why there aren't any in Cali because you have them all! Just kidding. How much are you selling the older RD for?
Love your videos also first

That is a beautiful GT80. A 73 was my fist bike age 7 and Im restoring another now 35 years later
Fist bike eh?
Never had a fist bike, but I did have a fust bike once😂
Fun video as always! Got my xr80 up and running and almost completely finished. You got me motivated to work on it again thanks for that!
Beautiful. My first bike was one of these, the tanks were metallic green. Loved my little Yammie.
Had a same many many years ago and enjoyed like anything. truly fantastic mechine

I also got one for my tenth.... but that was 1995 it was NOT new but so much fun!
I had this exact bike when I was 8-9. My old man put a knobby tire on the back and I started ripping the dirt up. Great video bro🤙🏻
I just recently received one of these as a gift. It needs work but watching this gets me excited of what to expect! Thanks for sharing!

I had a ‘78 GT80. I recall the fastest I could get it to go was 45 mph even down hill on pavement in 4th gear.
The Gt 80 is still a cute bike, and on the turbo, maybe the battery is on its last legs, but what do I know anyways lol, great video 👍😊...
I had a GT 80 back in 1974. It was my first actual motorcycle ( I had mini bikes before that).
I had one in 1977 at 14 years old and could hit 51' mph.. then again I was only about 125lbs back at that era! Paid $200 dollars or about $900 in today's dollars

Wow four-year-old video brings back some memories
this was the first new bike I bought in my life I loved it
My first bike
You’ve had like every bike man every time I look up a random bike it’s you😂
It's the battery it is shot
I have commented before. This is verry similar to my 1982 yamaha mx 100. Minus the lights. My bike tops out at 53 looks great keep up hard work guys

any idea where to buy parts for this bike. I have one in my garage im trying to restore.

my first bike ❤
whack the starter motor with a hammer. It sounds like the bendix gear is not engaging and is stuck

Love the vids man keep up the nice work

How do you kick something with your hand?
great video as usual!
I think u should do a 87 yamaha Tw200 on your channel haven't seen one of those yet
Did you use an old battery or new? If so get a new battery before moving forward.
They were four speeds got one in 1975 for my birthday brand new. $700 Cycles Incorporated Arlington Virginia.
I had a silver one just like it when I was younger... lots of fun.

Sounds like starter is spinning, but not making contact with the flywheel. May need a starter. Or push start it!
if the battery is fully charged take a hammer and tap the starter while pushing the starter button works sometime
I saw that ATC at 3:29 ! Love that thing!
I’m am fixing the same bike right now the gas tank was rusted I’m gonna have so much fun I think my first bike was a 50cc Yamaha like a 2013
with the xn 85 try bump start it if it does not work replace the battery connection becasue the wires might be old and not giving it the voltage it needs to start.
Alex Parker he has a broken foot!
Happens to my bike all the time even if the battery is charged the three things it must likely are is shot battery, fuse or battery connections
i have a Yamaha enduro 125dt and its my first bike any pointers or tips on how not to blow it up
Nice thing is you didn't have to mix oil in the gas before you put it in
that was the very first thing everyone disabled and got rid of, the(blow up your bike, oiler system) yeah, it happened all too often, on every brand that had them.

I also have a Yamaha 80gt and it also cuts in and out when in full throttle
Love the sound of a 2 stroke.
What year is the bike?
I’m always on Craigslist 😂 but i guess it’s better than playing fortnight
It sounds like solenoid but it could also be the starter, ive fried a starter before on my four wheeler and it sounded kind of similar to that
Mine didn't have no lights and the gears we're one down 3 up
Anything with clicking is alternators charging system .
I love this bike. Awesome video👍
What kind of helmet do you have?
I had one like this when I was kid weeklies all time .
Oh yeah we can hear it that two-stroke
I'm getting a kind of beat up one for a steal
what kind of KLOTZ DO YOU USE?
what ia the oil ratio for a gt80
put the yz running gear in and have a 5 speed and ull get 100kms but have to advance the timming
How much did you pay for it
Love your bikes garage is mint keep it up
Anybody know of any smaller bikes that can cruise at 55 other then a grom? Something older.
xStr8UPDoPex get a grom clone for only 1200
Ashton Allen no i want something older and name brand. I had a ruckus before and saw a chuckus quality was alot worse. Prob same on a fake grom
Nice video😄👌
That's my first bike and mine was labeled a Yamaha Enduro 80 2 stroke.
I saw this bike on Craigslist in Oshkosh last week I think
i had a 2000 yz80 that went around 75, raced my cousin on his quad and he was going 70 and i passed right by, i was like o sht, didnt think itd go that fast lol
More like 65 lol
Btw do you think you have enough RD's? I think that's why there aren't any in Cali because you have them all! Just kidding. How much are you selling the older RD for?
Rigguy 2000
2vintage too bad I live so far away. Good price though
Do you change the oil on bikes when you get them
Jon Hines typically yes
How much was it?
Oh my childhood
I had the enduro 80 for my first bike it would do 55 easy the chain broke and ruined the case 😮
my four wheel sounded like that and I replaced the battery and it fired right up
On the turbo I think the battery is just low my dads bike does the same when the battery’s low
Your surname sounds similar to the way you talk.
@@citizenseventies6738 shit that was 2 years ago don’t even know what I was trying to say😂
I actually have that bike at my grandpas and it’s fun to rip it down the property
Maybe it’s the starter clutch is messed up on the Suzuki 85
It does sound like the solenoid is stuck.
kickstart with my boots have fun pedal
Awesome bike!
Here I got 50mph (80 kmh), it was a nice run
Check the starter or the stator
you probably need a fuel filter the cutting in and out could be shit from the tank
Nice bike man
you paid 50 bucks woahh
Oh yeah it said they did 56 mph I don't remember going that fast on Google
Sounds like the teeth on the starter have stripped down can pick a starter up 25 pound - 40/50 dollers on the Suzuki
I got one of these in my backyard that dose t start
1973 paid $400 brand new, maybe 74 I know it was four hundred bucks though
Hey are you willing to sell me one of the bickes
Maybe need a bigger main jet
It’s the clutch on the gt80 not the gears
Brand new carburetor that thing would probably do a lot better
Sounds like your gear dogs are skipping not your sprockets
I subscribed and turned on post notifications
BBD TV i appreciate man
it's your safety on your clutch
Mine had a top speed of like 55 my second one like 40
I think it needs a battery, try that maybe 👍
