watch the live version of jabon from modern drummer 2005. or some live from from Nublu, like "To listen is to love". This guy is just a DnB powerhouse, i dont think any of us can fully appreciate his incredible skills
I love his solos because he never gets lost in the solo. Always keeps the groove going. You can literally nod your head through the whole thing. I'm pretty sure he was the inspiration for the drum machine.
A very late reply to your comment, but have you seen his TedTalk about improv and the sounds of machine drums ? Fascinating ! Edit: It's called "Exploring the distance between 0 and 1" ruclips.net/video/KExLCJAuTXA/видео.html
I think Jojo is one of the best around mainly because this is one of the few guys that can make solos that can amuse both drummers and non drummers. And that's not easy! Also, when I leave this solo on, my bird dances around!
He's legit amazing at everything. I see a video of him playing jazz, them i see him playing double bass, then I see him busting out nasty gospel chops, than a video of him playin some crazy polyrhythms, and now I here. Jesus what a beast!
@@marcusking8507 Why? That really wasn't very good for a dude who's supposed to be a "master." The only compliment I can give that laughable drum bit is that he has very good hand technique. No concept of what sounds good, playing a basic rhythm, dude is the most overrated guy ever.
@@ronelc.9012 Just listening to it, it sounded like a triple stroke followed by a single on the kick. But watching it in slow motion, it looks like only a double. So the third note must be from the snare: KKS_K and that's actually not too bad. But I have seen another video where Jojo is demonstrating his foot technique and he does a QUAD stroke on the kick with one foot. I can only get close to that using with the (George Kollias) swivel method, but I don't have control over that method it to do it consistently or as powerful. Jojo is a beast!
The line of difficulty in the beat he plays at 2:58 is amazing. Each limp in his body not just playing at the same but performing very difficult techniques. Just Brilliant
He is not only the drummer, but also the musician. All of drummer, have to learn from him, how to be the musician, not only can beat the drum set. Jojo is my inspiration
This solo shows an incredible amount of personality. I mean, the feel I got from this was quite intriguing. There aren't many drummers who can speak with emotion through a drum solo as much as a melody would, but this guy seemed to do that. I have much respect for that.
Wow....just a different kind of drummer, truly unique. Reminds me a little of Damien Schmit from France, they both have that incredible ability to almost sound mechanized
The best, #1, any other way you want to put it. Jojo is on top of his game! I have watched almost every video that has come out over the past 25 years, the one thing that very few drummers have been able to get across is their SINCERITY!!! Jojo is sincere when he teaches and that is a measure of his character. He's not an ego maniac.
JoJo Benny Greb Chris Coleman Rene Cremers and DRUMBASSADORS is insane Evelyn Glennie You can watch their Drumming OVER & OVER and still get AWE inspired ya Know??
Priceless Boost I found it boring repetitive and unimaginative really Also it had no flow and and was lacking that characteristic uplifting big band drum solo feel
Wow! from 2:22 to 3:50 min was the is why i love jo jo. That building up in intensity is awesome! as solid groove as it gets. A swirling vortex of fluid rotating energy. crop circle just discovered . fluid dynamics is the key!
My favorite drummer of all time. Saw him in 2022 in Vienna, I was a meter away from him. His energy was so huge, it lasted with me for one year. This guy is an absolute god.
thedakon do you really say that or you just say that he makes it look easy! Because if you mean the first one, then you're crazy, whereas if you mean the second thing... I completely agree with you!
I gave you a thumbs up although I hate Jojo Mayer style. Keep playing hard!! Some idiot doesn't know that the English might not be your first language. Dont mind them~! God Bless.
Beautiful vid. I love Jojo's grooves - they are just so cool. And he just throws in a few mind-blowing fills, not 5 minutes of flash like a lot of other drum videos.
Love this dude! I could listen to this guy all day. Such great feel and technique, and such good ideas. Can do weird tuplets and pushes without coming off like an irritating math nerd.
Paweł Morrison Ahh Bummer, but not on a JOJO video 0_0....trooooollllzzz Vic Firth When are you going to release 55A's with nylon tips for Electronic Drums? I have to keep buying sticks that would be perfectly fine otherwise because my Gen 16 cymbals keep eating the tips like a pencil sharpener. They don't eat the nylon of a 5BN. Thanks!
Because he's "jungle drumming". Originally a style of sampling blazing, vintage funk beats and incorporating them into drum and bass mixes. But drummers such as Jojo pioneered the genre onto the acoustic drum set.
RIP Richie......Nice, funny guy, iconic drummer.........Played in "The Factory" and "Little Feat" with Lowell George, also brilliant, also gone......Wish they grew old with the rest of us...........Sending kind thoughts to all.....
Jojo has been around a lot longer than Noisia and if we are talking about break chops in particular,Noisia are waaay low on that list.Noisia's drum programming is weak sauce.not even approaching a semi decent imitation of Jojo's drum chops.you wanna hear real drum programming?check out Photek,Calibre,Boymerang,Fanu or Squarepusher for a more jazz tinged take on Jungle and DnB (probably the closest analog to Jojo too)
So nice to see there are still drummers out there that don't use a double bass pedal. Listening to guys like Thomas Lang and Mike Mangini rip 32nd notes on a double bass drum all night makes your brain go numb after awhile. I really don't care if a drummer can play Wipeout on their bass drums. Whoopty-fucking-do. Double bass pedals have taken the soul out of drumming and turned it into a damn racket.
Double bass is just as much part of playing drums as any other technique dude. Blazing 32nds at top speeds, is not the only thing you can do with that. It's very close minded to even hint at that. Sure, some amateurs use double bass out of laziness to learn certain patterns with one foot. Then again, such people also use two hands to do certain patterns that could (or should) be done with one as well. And you know what? That's ok too. Just enjoy playing and let others have their fun as well. To say that a certain technique or drumpart has "taken the soul out of drumming" is just silly elitism. There's only one thing that has taken the soul out of music and it's called the beatbox/computer.
I find it amazing how fast Mayer can play, while at the same time keeping it so clean and articulate.
He's great. But there are definitely more amazing examples
and it makes you wanna dance dude, that shit is groovy as fuck
Xyluss Nelms Give me one
Just jungle music 🙂

Pocket
If anyone deserves their own signature drum stick, its this guy.
The left hand at 2:46 is absolutely illegal! The Beat afterwards is just cool and delivered… we love you Jojo!
What’s amazing about his drum is he controls the tone of the drums in such an accurate and groovy play.
I think Jojo is one of the best around mainly because this is one of the few guys that can make solos that can amuse both drummers and non drummers. And that's not easy!
Also, when I leave this solo on, my bird dances around!
Yeah!
...rock out Bird! :]
I hope his name is Parrotdiddle
taids HA!
...& when the Rhythm Cats eats him!?
Then will there be a "diddle in the middle" ?? Hahaha! :P
Caalamus X-D
True
One of the drumming elite for sure! What a signature sound.
muy. bueno
Antonio Anthony i literally just watched family guy
The hair, the tongue, the glasses, the scarf matching the t-shirt is just pure 70's rock n' roll. BTW the fill at 2:55 was just phenomenal...
He's legit amazing at everything. I see a video of him playing jazz, them i see him playing double bass, then I see him busting out nasty gospel chops, than a video of him playin some crazy polyrhythms, and now I here. Jesus what a beast!
Double bass? What video is that? I need to see that
Jojo Mayer is awesome. His timing is impeccable. So much fun to watch and listen to him play.
I can't express how I feel incapable with drum after that.
Erin Palitroque i know that feel bro
You should feel motivated by it.
I do :')
Inspire yourself don't dishearten yourself
same here i mean wtf,i didn't even know that you can do that playing drums xD

4:23 wow. Just.. Wow, that bass footwork.
Exactly 🤯

You meant *limb* , I'm sure.
Being a drummer myself, watching Jojo play always boggles the mind. Just amazing.
He is not only the drummer, but also the musician. All of drummer, have to learn from him, how to be the musician, not only can beat the drum set. Jojo is my inspiration
He just brought drumming to a whole nother level....that left hand movement is mind blowing!!
2:20 - 3:50 the best 90 seconds in history of drumming :)
This guy is 80.ruclips.net/video/1EKaflXTzHw/видео.html
This solo shows an incredible amount of personality. I mean, the feel I got from this was quite intriguing. There aren't many drummers who can speak with emotion through a drum solo as much as a melody would, but this guy seemed to do that. I have much respect for that.
Extremely awesome.
the sticking. the control. the groove. beautiful.
2:43 - Master of the Universe ! ! !
It has three arms, the only possible way
Thank you Jojo For a wonderful and stunning display of artistry and musicality.I thank GOD for musicians like you
i love his kick sound more than anything in this video, trucking incredible
I am so happy that I have been into this drummer. I have learned so much from you JOJO. Thank you. Keep kicking ass.
Wow....just a different kind of drummer, truly unique. Reminds me a little of Damien Schmit from France, they both have that incredible ability to almost sound mechanized
2 millions viewers is a rare thing when ur watching a drum solo performances, that sums up how amazing jojo is..👏
2:55 i love that so much

2:55 WHAT THE FUCK !!
+isaac miller Jojo's hand work really is just outrageous.
+isaac miller Incredible !!!
his left hand work is especially dazzling frustrating to watch as a drummer lol... no clue :(
Push-Pull
My favorite living drummer.
Thanks JoJo for adding beauty to the world.
I've watched this video about 10-15 times in the last year.
That's not enough
Have you checked the Alastair Taylor version?

Gotta crank those numbers up
I watch this about 10-15 times a day ;)

Never get tired of this video, I don't know if I should be inspired or discouraged lol...
hahahahahaha nice!
I still play that opening groove to this day I love it.

Every time i watch this i still find a way to be amazed the same wow
Also this is incredible marketing hahah
If I could travel back in time to show a RUclips video to Buddy Rich, this would be it.
+Legio XXI Rapax ..."yeah...I made that video possible"...
+Grudman it is not very good
Alexander Ghionis Why?
Priceless Boost I found it boring repetitive and unimaginative really
Also it had no flow and and was lacking that characteristic uplifting big band drum solo feel
Alexander Ghionis It's a drum and bass solo, I can see why
One of the best... That little bass drum lick at 4:23 is just great.
So underrated and overlooked, the best around 👍🔥
"underrated and overlooked". Ok.
No one is under rating jojo mayer
Its incredible what this guy can do with just the snare, kick and hi-hats
I like the fact that he likes drum & bass and he makes it to sound natural
Wow! from 2:22 to 3:50 min was the is why i love jo jo. That building up in intensity is awesome! as solid groove as it gets. A swirling vortex of fluid rotating energy. crop circle just discovered . fluid dynamics is the key!
@ 1:14 ... sticks his tongue out cause these beats are SO tasty.
LanceCampeau I think it was more likely because of all the Booger Sugar.
The thing I like about Jojo is his style and his attitude can be felt through his drum playing. It's just simple and pure art.
what the hell was that fill at 2:55 xD that was awesome !
AresBrutality Wow!!! That’s all I can say!! Awesome!
Shaaat
that's called the smooth low bone sweep
I would say legato awesome fill..coming from guitarist :) was so good.
My favorite drummer of all time. Saw him in 2022 in Vienna, I was a meter away from him. His energy was so huge, it lasted with me for one year. This guy is an absolute god.
My fav part is when he switches to the 22" AAX Omni at around 1:42... I could listen to that beat forever...
One of the best drummer
I want the HAT, RIDE and SNARE!!
I want his haircut
Then don't cut your hair
I want his skills
***** lol
Victor suarez
hahaha suarez hahaa bite your drumkit cmon
i could watch this all day.
"Playing drums is so easy" one would think by looking at Jojo's performance in this video.
thedakon do you really say that or you just say that he makes it look easy! Because if you mean the first one, then you're crazy, whereas if you mean the second thing... I completely agree with you!
No one thinks that trust me
so good and so different
He is dancing on the drum kit
Proof that the very best musicians in the world are virtually unknown
I saw jojo live in italy :) crzy talent
Jo Jo is the most creative, innovative drummer out there right now, IMHO...
God would not want a drum-off with Jo Jo.
2:55 this fill INSANE!!
I love his creations in this video!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!!
There is two types of drummers. Drummers. Jojo Mayer.
there are only two types of people: those that can extrapolate from incomplete data.
+ThePTGuy well played sir
I gave you a thumbs up although I hate Jojo Mayer style. Keep playing hard!!
Some idiot doesn't know that the English might not be your first language.
Dont mind them~! God Bless.
Amazing musicians out there in our world and I´m hell of glad about! Best wishes to all of you!!!Keep on jazzin`!!
Awesome! Thank you to Tim Ferriss for the recommendation!

+Hayden Spears And the buzz roll was just perfect

2:55 !?!?!?
wow
WOOOOOO
Lol
amazing. one of the best drum solos i have ever seen. So much technical skill. I would love to become as good as him.
4:31 - I can hear that groove all day! Fun-kay
Love this dude! I could listen to this guy all day. Such great feel and technique, and such good ideas. Can do weird tuplets and pushes without coming off like an irritating math nerd.
DnB, House, then a Steve Gadd-ish groove.
first was jungle
+Nathan de Groot
Jungle and drum and bass used to be synonymous, and today id still call jungle a subgenre of dnb.
Jojo is always a delight to hear his creations. He does not make noise.... he must have african blood in him: he's got soul and rhythm!
Why is Fool in the Rain at the end?
Someone recognized it! :) It took about four years, but better late then never.
Vic Firth Awesome!!! It happened because I'm learning it!!
***** Such a great tune... :)
Vic Firth Hey I`ve said it like a year ago on some other performance series video! Lol

Man....that was freaking awesome..
his ride groove starting at 2:58 is whoa
Thank you Jojo for being such a big inspiration to me and my music!
first 2 minutes is basically song Jabon from his band Nerve. Right?
primoz lekse yep
No.
Love this style so much ...
why does this remind me of the Power Puff girls ??? :D
Because of the "Funky Drummer" breakbeat
Same bro.
Because he's "jungle drumming". Originally a style of sampling blazing, vintage funk beats and incorporating them into drum and bass mixes. But drummers such as Jojo pioneered the genre onto the acoustic drum set.
Groove and feeling that's all there's to it.. !! Gotta Love JoJo Mayer !!

that beat he started @3:11 is money!!!
insane. and he takes that beat up a notch a @3:25 adds something I am not sure what. crazytalk.
He is the most sophisticated and rhythmically refined drummer on the planet! Superb!
I'm at a loss at how he gets his legs going like that in those leather pants... Haha :)
Saw him live last night, blew my flippin' mind! And he let my friend get a picture with him, such a cool guy
Noisia would be proud.
who is noisia?
A drum and bass group.
and Black Sun Empire
I think Jojo Mayer is proud of noisia

Ok.
its your opinion. but dp havent taken the soul out. its just the different ways of drumming. try to respect each other

This is awesome. Again and again and again...
Epic!

If the ocean was made of drums...? No idea how-else to describe it. Makes my ears melt.
People that think double bass is drumming is elite.... I show them this.
i cant help but smile and think: what a genius
Awwww thanks. 😊 How long have you been my fan?
We've made a big mistake! Remo for the win! We see that hidden powerstroke JOJO. Sneaky sneaky boy. Remo Inc
LOL
This drumset is a Sonor Delite series . Sound Amazing !!
2:56 whaaaaaaaat???!!! :O :D
Double stroke roll dude
Jojo Mayer is a amazing drummer. His Techinic express music, not showman. Excellent drummer!
I could not imagine drumming in leather pants for any length of time...
I love how interesting his playing is! I get a sense of excitement because I don't know what's coming next!
