How To Create a Laser Show (A Detailed Beginner's Guide)

  • This one's for the beginners!
    When I was starting out, I would constantly check the QuickShow wiki and Pangolin's tutorial videos to find any hidden information that would improve my programming.
    I created this video for the beginner me.
    It's a bit longer than I expected but it contains all the information and tips I wish I knew when I was starting out.
    I hope it helps!
    Missed Points:
    • If you experience strobing on the laser, try reducing points per beam first!
    Then point count or size.
    • Color effects. Totally missed it. Make sure they're placed in the 'correct' order in your effect list. A size or position effect will change the way your cue interacts with color effects. Move the color effect above to retain the whole color effect at all times. Move it below to have the cue take on position-based colors.
    • In key effects, 'Enable auto-keying' will automatically create a keyframe when you change the associated value. I always have this on.

    Thank you so much for this! I bought a Raw 1.7 awhile back because I saw your videos last year. I've been fiddling with it, trying to piece it all together, but it's definitely not easy. Super excited to watch this all the way through, cus I know there'll be something that I didn't know in here. Thaaanks!

    Amazing. I hope Pangolin sponsors you as you are the reason many of us are buying their products. Getting QS next week and will be trying it on Chinese 5w Ilda Lasers. I hope this wont hinder me too much until I can afford Unity/KVant projectors.
    Will be purchasing your shows first thing.

    Hey Vox, love your shows, keep up the great work!
    The problem you uncountered around 38:00 can be easily solved if you use a cue list, it's in Beyond but I'm not sure if it's in quickshow. Once you drop a cue to your timeline it gets added to the cue list. If you want your cues to be linked, drag them from the cue list to the timeline instead. This way, if you want to add an effect to all the linked cues, you add it not to the timeline but in the cue list, and it'll affect each and everyone of them. Likewise you can replace cues in the cue list and it'll change all the linked ones that are in the timeline!
    Hope that helps if you weren't doing that already!

      @vox.daemon  Месяц назад +1

      Right! I actually haven't done this using the cue list directly but I'm gonna start haha thanks for the tip! I was surprised that this wasn't a feature in QuickShow. It's the biggest timesaver for me so I was pretty excited to share it with beginners.

    There's some really helpful tips in this video, a couple things that are handy that I wasn't aware of! If you actaully created a course that we could take to learn how to make shows like you do, I would absolutely buy that! Thank you for making this tutorial Vox, love what you make! :D

I would really like to be able to project with a setup similar to what you have in your immersive videos. Anyways you're a huge inspiration and I'm looking forward to seeing more content from you! 😊

      @@vox.daemon Okay thanks ;) . I've only used Pangolin Quickshow so far, but I've been thinking about buying Beyond for a long time. Beyond will be for more professional purposes, right? Do you have many more options for creating a better laser show with Beyond or is it worth the extra charge compared to Quickshow? Or should you just get Beyond if you want to control more than 9 lasers? I don't make any money from it (yet).

    Thanks for posting this! Thoughts on number of lasers for starting out for small indoor shows ( typical large house)? awesome!

    • @vox.daemon
      @vox.daemon  2 месяца назад +1

      Start out with two lasers. Programming will be easy since you’re just mirroring! If you go for an odd number you’ll have to get very intentional with your designs. If budget allows, try to grab some with at least 3W of power

    Around the 6:22 mark could you potentially use the stuttering effect to potentially make “machine gun” lasers? I saw a video I don’t remember how long ago of a show where the dj had a machine gun effect with the lasers. It was bad ass! I don’t know if it’s really possible, but curious if you could give it a shot in a future video??

    • @vox.daemon
      @vox.daemon  Месяц назад

      It definitely could be! I would probably pair it with a strobe effect (oscillating brightness w/ 2 discrete steps) and maybe an X position effect to give a sweeping motion. Great idea for a future video I like it

    I would say the background music is a little annoying for things like this. Now I need to fight the urge to buy a laser since I’ve only just seen this kind of thing and my ADHD will make me start a new hobby on a whim.
