that black gunk is mold...if you're filling up with tap water, it still has enough small traces of bacteria in it. same thing with glass and steel water bottles, people assume because only water goes into it, that it's always going to be clean, but over time that builds up and builds up.
Bought this kettle 8 years ago and so far sent it back for repairs twice now (first time in 2019 the kettle just stopped, second time recently the switch didn't stay down). Latest estimates are £54+shipping to repair. Buyer beware!
8 years is good going though. The average £40 kettle lasts around 2 years and mostly can’t be repaired so those are often a false economy anyway. Most appliances these days have obsolescence built in. Even fridges and washing machines usually pack up after 5 years.
My maytag fridge is still running with no problems after 23 years... Albeit with biannual maintenance checkups. Not saying that modern maytags would have the same record but it is possible to engineer products with longevity.
@@DADDELIVERS . It’s also worth retaining the box it comes in, so you have something to return it in, if in the future it needs fixing. I love the fact that it can be repaired and Dualit will do it for you, if necessary.

I have to say we‘ll get the Quooker tap eventually. My parents have it and it’s utterly amazing. But heck are they expensive
Haha thanks Chris!
It would save flipping that lid every time!
I bought the new version of that Bosch when we moved into our home 😂
Great spot thanks!
That Bosch kettle has been so good to us, can't believe it lasted that long.
in USA but of British decent, they stopped selling Russel Hobbs. Same problem. we boil tea all day long. Last kettle disgusting after a year

Thanks for the info Alan, I appreciate it.
Seen that many poor reviews have had issues with the plastic switch

@@AlanBeer possible yes but doesn’t satisfy the shareholders unfortunately!
And of course you can get it refurbished if required
That's a good idea - thanks John

It looks very large but I want one
It's tall, but it looks nice.
For the price the base should also be metal
Very true thanks.
