What I love about this is it’s basically a survival game but with war of the worlds aliens and NPCs running around. The “Days Survived” aspect is super cool too because you know right from the start you aren’t expected to make it
Well if it goes along the route of the book it's less a timer because you're not expected to make it and more counting down until the Martians die from exposure to Earth bacteria. As soon as the Martians show up on Earth they're on borrowed time.
i would love on tripod gameplay, to have different sirens actually imply different messages like "searching for humans in this area", "possible encounter dead ahead", "need more tripods in my area" etc. Maybe there could be a 'ui-wheel' of choices and when choosing a message, your tripod makes a relevant sound which is received by nearby tripods! ...or im just a dummy and something like this already exists but im too excited to even see it yet as i have not finished the video yet as i write this :p

There should be maps where you're caught in the middle between the Martians and Human military. Martians escaping their destroyed tripods to attack players would be a neat change of horror.
@@AAngelDustgaymer I mean, they don't even need to leave their tripods for that. If I remember correctly, the bacteria originally got inside of the suits and killed them regardless of if they left or not.
I am trying to think how the tripod gameplay would work, since they seem pretty omnipotent. The things I can think of would be that initially, you want to vaporize humans in order to get the points to upgrade your tripod, but since it is War of the Worlds, I would assume there is a timer ticking down before the bacteria infect and kill all the martians, but you can extend this timer by terraforming and spreading the red weeds, which requires you to capture humans, who would become more scarce as they go into hiding. Also, I'd imagine that you would have to leave your tripod every so often for food and water, which would make both you and your tripod vulnerable to everything that the human players would be vulnerable to, like wildlife and bandits, so you would need to scout houses and locations with your camera probe in order to make sure an area is truly safe. Maybe the martian endgame would be to discover, research, and eventually find an immunity against bacteria, but until then you need to slow down the infection, survive the military, and forage for food/water.
The sound needs some tweaking so they can be heard walking from more of a distance, maybe more particle effects around the base of their feet when walking so close to add immersion, but otherwise.…killer!
Man, this game had evolved so much! I remember how clunky the gameplay was on its first showcase ever. My thoughts are that the people behind this game put the behind scenes of the movie in good use since the behind scenes of the 2005 movie shows every little detail of the tripod animations.
@@lepterfirefall Why should a small indie dev make the extra effort to make a VR version of this game, considering that VR gaming is still just a niche? Maybe if this game blows up so much that they make so much money that they can create a full-blown game dev company. Otherwise i think any chances of VR versions are pretty low.
@LegioXXI I get you...but there are very talented people out there with the skills to inject vr into games, no matter how basic. I'm sure someone will attempt it.
I kinda like that. Nowadays many games put their op stuff behind massive amount of grinding and/or paywalls. Like, not every gamer is a teenager with too much free time anymore. Would love to just be able to start this game, hop into a TriPod and just unleashing overpowered destruction.
Did the makers of this Game lose the rights or authorization to use the Actual SOUND from the Tripod Machines in the Tom Cruise movie?!? Because THAT was one of the biggest reason I wanted to play this game.
I honestly think it would be really cool that before you die by the tripods, you can see the needle and hear the other people's screams just before it says: "GAME OVER". It's horrifying but it would make a nice touch.
If that style of gameplay appeals to you, Amnesia, the Dark Descent is a very similar concept, you have no means of fighting back, only hiding and distracting the monsters.
I'd like to make a suggestion. For the RV make it where you can turn on dome lights and aisle lights instead of relying on a flashlight everytime. Also you should be able to close curtains on the windows. Hope a dev sees this.
I would advise extreme caution on this one. It gives off "The Day Before" vibes but even worse. Definitely wait for a review if this game ever indeed does see a release date. This was a 2 hour demo and what exactly did they show? As a human, it's a Tripod watching simulator. Makes for an interesting spectacle for youtube, but as far as gameplay goes you're not actually doing anything other than driving to a building, then waiting inside refreshing your food and water meters until it walks past. Then playing as the tripod, they showed off a glorified spy cam, but didn't actually show it finding humans or show what you do when you do find them. The demo briefly showed the tripod destroying buildings in one single area, but then when it was out in the world the buildings were indestructible with lots of obvious edits to the footage. This is a sure sign the game either crashed or was so janky that it needed edited out. As for the NPCs, it seems like their AI is limited to following the player and running away from the tripods, with no examples seen of any kind of intelligent behavior like looting, hiding, or fighting. I guarantee those npcs will get lost or stuck in geometry if you try to walk with them for more than a minute or two. I'm not saying the dev is a scammer, I'm just saying he's an amateur that's in over his head, and is better at editing video than making games. Just go to the official youtube channel for this game and look at the first videos posted, you'll see very little progress has been made since 2021, and most of the assets being used are highly likely to be purchased from a store and shoehorned into a vertical slice.
My guy, this person is no amateur, and a shitton of progress has been made since 2021. The fuck you on about? These assets are hand made by a dedicated team of designers hired by the Dev themself. As someone who has watched recent footage of the game on the Discord: Houses and other buildings are fully destructible. You have to defend yourself from other humans, animals, and even later on the aliens outside the tripods on a regular basis in Survival mode. It's a lot more than just a tripod watching simulator. As a Tripod, you capture humans and use them to terraform the ground beneath you, and this also gets you upgrades down the line depending on the number you have. I could go on, really.
@@TGOPoma Fair enough, you've been warned. I'll join the discord and see if I can find what you're talking about, but if these buildings are "fully destructible" as you say, it looked a lot like he was trying to avoid hitting them as much as possible for almost the entire tripod segment. I saw two buildings be destroyed, then him shoot some cars in the streets while avoiding buildings, and then when he did hit buildings, they showed no damage. Then the tripod stepped on top of the buildings and nothing happened. If what you say is true, you'd think at some point in the two hours you'd see him level one of those neighborhoods? Then I saw some aliens chasing him with some rudimentary follow AI. As for being an amateur, I found one other game by this developer that's poorly received and looks like an asset flip, which doesn't inspire confidence. When I compare this to what I learned in a few months in unreal engine as a hobby for about 2-3 hours a week between july and dec last year, everything I'm seeing here, except maybe the probe, is easily done (and done better) with a lot of default settings in Unreal. In any case, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I'm just saying there were a lot of red flags for me as this demo played out in slow motion with very little happening at all during the two hour runtime. So I still recommend waiting for reviews (which is good advice regardless these days even without this many red flags).
@@Videogamehistorian00 Yep, I was wondering that too. War of the Worlds may be in the public domain, but that doesn't mean every iteration of it over the years is up for grabs. The probe, tripod, and alien design is very much lifted straight from the movie.

"what would prevent them to burn down the whole earth?" Their goal of conquest and fertilisation. If they just wanted to destroy earth they could just throw huge asteroids on the planet and not even bother with any ground invasions.
It's wild how I can watch the movie and just feel meh about the tripods, but watching from a gamer's perspective all of a sudden they are terrifying lol.
That flashlight is like shining towards very dirty glass in a distance of 1m. You can basically see much less than without it. That needs to be fixed... But otherwise a VERY nice feeling, great atmosphere, awesome sound. Not AAA graphics, but definitely AAA lighting (apart from the flashlight thingy).
Looks amazing also very terrifying lol. Seems like a timed survival game. In the end the aliens fall do to earth's illnesses but during that time environmental changes happen, different scenarios play out like the probs and actual aliens. It almost feels too easy to hide in a house like that tripod couldn't knock it down or just blast it. I think with better behavior in the AI could definitely add whole new strategies for sure aswell as how the environment is destroyed. I love the skin of the tripod in the beginning and the sound is amazing just in general. The storms and lightning are awesome wondering if you could watch the tripod activate during those. Kinda feel like the guns would be useless because in an alien encounter it seems like it would just alert the others and defeat the purpose. The nuke was a nice touch of desperation in us humans and is believable to me. Really interesting game though it got my adrenaline running watching. How this game will be shown to the player will definitely determine its outcome. So much potential here. These were just some thoughts of mine.

How can this game ever be released without licensing? It looks like a lot of potential but there won't be any release date without studio approval?
why does it say singleplayer title at the end? on the steam page it says Online-PVP and Online-Coop
Not a fan of suvival games, but I would give this one a try, provided it's not an MMO.
It would be pretty cool to pick wich era of tripod you could play as like the water tower ones

🥶💀
Looks so dope, very immersive. Would work great with vr
It's wild how I can watch the movie and just feel meh about the tripods, but watching from a gamer's perspective all of a sudden they are terrifying lol.
It’s looking really good and can’t wait to play. Hopefully the background music playing in the Screenshots chapter isn’t present in the final build.
Destroy All Humans, but playing as human now
I hope this comes to Xbox we do have a war of the worlds game, but it doesn’t look as good as this
NICE! When is it ready for purchase?
The full release may not be available until mid late 2025 or 2026.
Looks graphically a lot better from the last time I checked up on it
Looks amazing also very terrifying lol.
Is this only single or coop or multiplayer? Many thanks
The game can be played with single player, but CO-OP/PVP is planned.
The sound design is emaculate
This is giving me Generation Zero vibes. Except it's scarier, and I wish I had even bigger guns.
Looks more beautiful every update.
