    This video is another of my son Jason's jobs. He first covered the area and then removed all the loose plaster.
    I happened to be in the neighborhood working with my other sons, Carl and Dan and stopped by to show them how we do ceiling repairs.
    As it's a real drag to film oneself.
    This mud was going off or setting, and I had about 5 minutes to use it or lose it. When this happens, you have to apply it with lots of pressure, throw it away, and remix another bucket full.
    We only throw mixed plaster away if it's set where it can't be applied; thus as an example, think of a 15 to 20-pound dumbbell, place it in your hand, and drag it along the ceiling while pushing it upwards.
    That's the amount of pressure I was forced to use; it's not a big deal, but explains that when you wait too long while doing other things like "talking" instead of spreading.
    Just another day at the office for us.
    FYI, I used the diamond lime finish for the base and finish coat and simply finished it, but you have to know a bit about your materials to do this. For example, if I were doing a whole room. I'd apply a basecoat no doubt with Diamond basecoat or Structo-Lite then apply a diamond lime finish over it.
    But for such small areas, that was not necessary.

      Id like to see him use our stuff too. I have spoken to him in the comments before and his wife’s from Manchester so he’s been here and has actually used it. Their plaster over there looks so different, from what I can gather, their diamond veneer is the equivalent of multi. I think Kirk mixes it up quite thick to cover it in one coat, as opposed to us applying two thinner wetter coats

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  9 месяцев назад

      Good evening Steven, I tried to find the British Multi Finish once, I believe they sold it in New York, which is across the country from where I am. New York just happens to be the shortest distance across the pond, perhaps why it was there?
      Its costly to get products that are heavy across the ocean.
      The fact remains, if a person can spread one he can spread all of them.👨🏻‍🔬

    How long should a homeowner wait for the new plaster to dry before painting? I have seen contractors use moisture meters to check it before painting, but not everyone has or can afford a meter. Also, great job on the patches.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 месяцев назад +1

      My moister meter is ingrained with common sense. All plaster set differently, read the bag. About how long to wait to paint, Most plasters can be painted in about a week.

    • @StuccoPlastering

      Only 5 percent of this ceiling was failing. However we could have done that if the client wanted us to do that. That would have cost some extra dough, thus as a rule I don't sell folks what they don't need.

    Help! Remodeling a 1950s home with Rocklathe. Scraped a ton of paint. Still have some well bonded paint. My question is should I repair cracks and sections where the plaster had separated with more plaster or joint compound? My concern is what will adhere to remaining painted surfaces and will cracks show up again later. Also I plan to do an entire skim coat of the walls and ceiling to fill low spots and to cover 75 years of imperfections.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 месяцев назад +2

      Rocklath is top-of-the-line stuff. Any plaster finish is only as good as what it's applied over, Thus clean it as well as possible, apply a bonding agent then plaster over it. It should last forever if your prep work is done well.
