Thanks for your comment. I’m glad that you are happy. I’ve got some questions because I’m planning to get the GV80 at the end of this year, how is the fuel economy? As I’m an average 9-5 working person so reliability, maintenance & insurance everything matters to me. But I just love this car, it is truly beautiful & worth the money
@@Akshay-08 I would say on average I get about 18 miles per gallon in the city when I'm out running errands, if we are taking a trip from Dallas to Houston, it goes up to about 22 miles per gallon. I just bought this same car a month ago in dark gray and absolutely love it. The Genesis made driving fun again. I had an Audi owner ask me how I liked it and we chatted for about 10 minutes. I drove my Lexus for 10 years and no one ever stopped to talk about it. Sweet looking car and it definitely turns heads.

I am so proud of my car, I have no worries at all about the maintanance, the quality of the car is wow, yes I would rate it 6/10 for some materials used outside (mainly the chrome on sides is little cheap, but the interior is 9/10) the overall for this wonderful luxury is 8.5/10. Compared to lexus, audi. I would choose Genesis at anytime. I am sure the new GV80 successor would be a UFO design of 70yrs ahead of Bently with Rolls Royce style doors on all of their cars Genesis sedands and SUVs, bv then. Goodbyes to German/British cars.
I am telling you so you will know in the future as my words reach your ears, I agree with your wisdom and I state to you as you adjust your turban, I agree, yes, you are correct.
There is an incredible number of features and options to love about the GV80. The exterior is one of the best looking in its class but is still edged out by the Range Rover Velar. The front grill design and layout are classy. The air intakes, clean body lines, and concaves throughout are nice touches that complete a very compelling aesthetically pleasing silhouette. Chrome use is nice but may be a bit too generous. The grill-shaped exhaust is a nice touch. Soft-close doors, head-up display, and lane watch are elevated and much-appreciated features. The interior cabin has a high-end look from the door panels to the dreamy quilted front massaging napa leather seats to the front and rear heated and cooled seats. The 21-speaker Lexicon system seems par for the course but only in-vehicle testing can determine if it's comparable to or better than the competition. A panoramic moonroof is a must-have option although there is a pronounced division between the front and rear panels. Access from the 2nd-row rear seat to the front seat adjustments is a welcome feature. The appreciation of the minimal use of gloss-black especially in the interior cannot be overstated. The rear cargo space is voluminous and is top in class. Power-rear sunshades as well as two USB ports and a full-size outlet complete a very functional and comfortable rear passenger experience. What I am less than intrigued by is the rear wiper being exposed as opposed to being tucked under the upper rear roof spoiler although the rear liftgate release button is nicely hidden in the lower wiper blade base. The door seal plates should be Illuminated (and maybe something I just missed). The steering wheel absolutely does not fit the overall aesthetics and looks a bit outdated. I am definitely not a fan of the look of the infotainment screen that appears to be breaking out of the dash. I expect the display presentation on their flagship offering to be larger although the features are as newer tech should present. Although A simple pie-in-the-sky wish would have been a larger capacity gas tank/better fuel economy which would have propelled this versatile SUV option handily ahead of a very crowded and competitive field. All in all, I am very much a fan of the luxury mid-sized Genesis GV80 Prestige and it is now occupying a contenders seat for my next luxury SUV competing with the likes of the 2023 Range Rover Velar, 2023 Porsche Macan, and 2023 AMG GLE 53. Fun times ahead.

The car is great, I had a 2022. But the dealer network is totally substandard. The only dealer in the Sacramento / Northern Nevada area is in Roseville. I believe all Genesis cars are still sold at Hyundai dealers. Genesis of Wayne is actually about to undergo construction of their own dealership from Hyundai, so I think I’m time Genesis will dramatically transform their dealer experience.
I find it interesting that from the 80s, 90s to today Cadillac has been trying to catch up with BMW and Mercedes. Then out of nowhere Hyundai comes up with something that out classes Cadillac!

Apparently, when Vinny and Louie from CR dropped by Genesis to pick up their "Protection" check, Genesis told em to take a hike. I just bought this car and have been amazed at the gas mileage... mainly city driving and averaging 20mpg. I live in TX and drive across state to see family a few times a year... got a feeling it's gonna be way better. LOVE this car.
Very nice, but can you turn off the "nanny" features like automatic headlight control, lane keep, auto stop-start, smart cruise control(what I mean is can you switch to conventional cruise control?).
The idle stop can't be permanently disabled. You'd have to press the button each time the car is turned on. The driver assistance features can be turned off, but I'm don't think the automatic headlights can't be turned off
Nice but I don’t like the steering wheel for starters ; but for me the main negative is that a 3.5 L Turbo V6 is a gas guzzler and with the price of petrol these days you will be at the gas station frequently forking out the $$$. They should have a Hybrid engine on this like Lexus offers on some of their vehicles . These engines are OK but are not as good as what Lexus offers in my opinion ; and if they want to compete in the luxury segment they need to step up their game with their engines.
I think the GV80 has that wow factor and prestige that the GV70 just doesn’t quite have. It’s definitely towards the top of my list and one of my favorite vehicles I’ve covered 😎
You say in both this review and the GV70 review to be careful when using the dials -- would you be able to put it in reverse while going 80 down the highway or something? For example, in a Tesla Model Y, if you use the gear shifter when you're driving, it just says to stop first. Is that not the case here?
I would assume the electronics would be programmed not to do that, but I don’t know for certain. But another scenario I was thinking of was thinking you put the vehicle in park but actually didn’t, and then taking your foot off the brake and hitting something
Dose the interior come in different colors? Because thhosee colors do absolutely nothing for me actually turned me of the vehicle completely, unfortunately, the exterior is very impressive, don't t think I'd trade my Acura RDX for the genius
@@OpticalAutomotiveit would be a deal breaker for me. I have the GV70 and specifically went for the trims that had the 3 spokes. I will likely look into a GV80 coupe in the future.

Coming out of a 2022 GV70 3.5t Advanced and then a 2023 G80 2.5t Sport Prestige I thought for sure the GV80 2.5t Prestige that they finally put in a HUD, was going to be my next Genesis. Great products no issues and best warranty. But for shits and giggles I test drove a 2024 MDX Advance right before my GV80 test drive. I literally walked next door from the Acura dealer. The sales rep sold both products. The GV80 2.5t actually is noticeably quicker than the MDX normally aspirated six but gets worse mpg, yeh Genesis makes two nice turbo charged engines but they don’t have the mpg figured out like BMW. (I had a 2021 4 series) I was trading my 2023 G80 that was eight months old and had 22k miles (😯ya I know) it’s a work vehicle, so I figured I’d get the same seat. WRONG! Half way through the test drive I’m like WTF, the MDX seat, comfort and handling were noticeably way better, and for $7k less! When I got back to the Genesis dealer I got out and had to double check that I didn’t have my seat bladder cranked up. What a rock hard crap seat and I put long days in the saddle so I passed on the GV80. They wouldn’t budge off MSRP on the MDX so I passed on that too. But then went to a much closer Acura dealer and walked in and asked the first rep that approached me, $2k off MSRP and $2k more for trade in on the G80 (I already had one trade estimate) I handed him my two G80 keys and thought I was very fair with my offer. He came back and shook my hand and said deal. I got $750 rebate to boot and saved $7k over the GV80. I’m still blown away how much more comfortable and better handling the MDX is than the GV80 but am stuck with the Acura touchpad interface. How tone deaf does Acura have to be on this? NOBODY likes it. It’s amazing what you can learn when you do a side by side comparison and not have to remember what the other product was like. Hope I get the legendary Acura reliability 😁 Good review again btw…you never stutter and are really polished 👍🏼
I judge ALL the automotive brands by their longetivity, reliability, and retention of value... The latter, retention of value, is a single most accurate factor to consider whether you should buty a specific brand / model... why and how... Start with the brand... if many models of the brand have grea retention value, it tells you something: people do not often sell their cars because they like them, quality, reliability, design, too many things to list here... so, let other people impact the most important factor when deciding on a vehicle. First, I would never pay 80k for Hyundai... second, imagine taking 80k and buying something that is 1-2 years old and certified with low miles... far more bang for your buck, as well as better options to choose among luxury brands... However, some people do not want used cars, but love brand new and only brand new models... well, this is it then - few select people who want to spend 80k on a Hyundai with a lot of options, paper spec perfection perhaps - but not much of value retention or reliability (Hyundai changes their powertrains in their cars more often than a hot chick changes panties...). Are those few select people watching RUclips reviewes of the models they consider? Highly unlikely... so regular Joes - like myself, don't fall for list of options... Do your research, do your homework and make sure you do not waste your money on brands that do not retain value, or even worse are a simple headache due to unreliable quality...
The GLS and X7 are both larger vehicles than the GV80. The GLE and X5 fall into the same category as the GV80. Genesis has the GV90 coming next year which will be a comparable size to the GLS and X7. But regardless of which class you choose, the Genesis will get you more value for the price. It just doesn't come with the same prestige as the other two. Happy shopping!
Absolutely mind-blowing? 😅😅😅 Man, this car could impress people 10 years ago, but now, in 2023 when Chinese brands produce such a technologically advanced cars which is in same level of Maybach Mercedes and top line, which cost 2-3x times cheaper. In this realities, Hyundai can't amaze and impress anyone, not only Hyundai but many other brands. Their hard times has started.
@@OpticalAutomotive you simply don't know what is happening in China. It is ahead of your countries for decades. When they start to import Chinese brands to EU and UK, you will wake up 😃
No one in the west is trusting a Chinese vehicle 🤣 Same reason Chinese wine can’t succeed out of its own border no one trusts CCP quality especially for something that’s going to cost 10s of thousands.
You could improve by dropping the idiot-loop ;background that does nothing but stupefy. You could explain the frame and body construction, and talk about the engine. Those, are, in case you missed that day in school, the things that make a car.
I have a friend who has one of these. I have driven and done my homework. I dont buy cars because of looks. Any car Hyundai makes isnt on par with lexus and acura. You need a 30yr track record of excellence to even talk. The price they charge is to much to gamble on. You can get a for sure winning lexus or acura for less basically. I know people will try to debate, but there isnt any. Just say your willing to try a genesis. My mint condition 99 gs300 and 2018 both run like new and look like new. No way these are even close to acura and lexus, until they prove it. They havent even been flawless for 10 straight yrs. Good luck but no. They charge much to much for window dressing sorry. Korean TV and appliances yes. Korean car hell no😂 unless that shit is super cheap
At the end of the day, it's still Hyundai. Ask any decent mechanic if they'd recommend buying a used hyundai or kia. They'd tell you to run the other way.

Hope I get the legendary Acura reliability 😁
Good review again btw…you never stutter and are really polished 👍🏼
Thank you again Vance! Enjoy your new MDX, it’ll serve you well.
The prestige should have a v8 option!!! 👍
this a bad SUV and what i like most about Genesis they have some of the best looking interiors in the business 🔥
For all those who don’t like the steering wheel I say. Boo hoo hoo. I love it.
Then your only options are Lexus, Toyota and Honda.
Wondering whether to add this to my consideration list? currently looking at Mercedes GLS and BMW X7
@@OpticalAutomotive Thanks! Appreciate your informative reply ;)
Genesis is the most powerful car in the world
Old style head up display...they need to catch up here with BMW and MB...after all they are in the high end spectrum, right.
A wire for Apple play? Come on
Nice car but the Hyundai Tucson dash integration is so much better
Is it true that it has a German engine ?
If what you're referring to is the fact that Genesis hired multiple engineers from BMW for development, then yes lol
I love this car. I have $4 million in cash. I will not spend $80K on an SUV
Debating between the 2024 Caddy XT4/5, the Genesis GV80, and Acura RDX 😩
With my own personal bias, I'd go for the RDX for the ease of ownership, low maintenance and reliability :)
GV80... ain't even close.
Hard times? I think the sales numbers Hyundai/Genesis is doing say otherwise.......
And we don't even have any Chinese brands in the US.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@OpticalAutomotive😊
does he said “ Ford Genesis”???
You mean 2024 Genesis???
The use of Android Auto requires the phone to be plugged into a USB port? What a joke.
You could improve by dropping the idiot-loop ;background that does nothing but stupefy. You could explain the frame and body construction, and talk about the engine. Those, are, in case you missed that day in school, the things that make a car.
Who hurt you, Dave? 😂
BUTTONS
Is Dave Portnoy narrating this?
Well that’s a first 😂
It's best value when you buy used.
You could probably get a really good deal on a 2021
Not when you can deal 6k off msrp of a new one
Major issue with all Genesis models is their decline in value when used----so much more so than Lexus!!!
Nothing can hold its value quite like a Lexus can that's for sure
Interior would have looked better with a light gray leather instead of that saddle brown. And get rid of that god-awful grandpa steering wheel
I'd personally choose Acura for its reliability. Already have 2 in my household
$80,000 for a Hyundai... Hard pass.
At the end of the day, it's still Hyundai. Ask any decent mechanic if they'd recommend buying a used hyundai or kia. They'd tell you to run the other way.
No different than Lexus being a Toyota, a Volkswagen being an Audi or a Nissan being a Infiniti. Luxury is Luxury facts 💯😜 or get a BMW or Mercedes if you just want a stand alone brand of Luxury.
Garbage! Owned a gv80 for a year and turfed it. Never again!
What was the issue?
@@OpticalAutomotive Transmission would not go into gear at times.... almost as if the selector was disconnected. Idled extremely poorly and was a rough start in temps below -25 celsius (when parked outside). Nav would intermittently not work (usually during winter months). We lost heat from December to February in the coldest months of the year and had no fix/resolution during this time from both Genesis Canada and Genesis Korea.... this was the final straw that led me to sell it. All of this topped by the absolute worst customer service of any dealership we have been at (luxury or otherwise). I cannot say this enough.... do not buy a vehicle from ANY Go Auto affiliated dealerships in Canada. We bought our Genesis through their Edmonton/Nisku location and it was a complete shit-show!
