This is definitely the best video on this amp, and I am glad that mine biggest question about the fx loop being friendly is finally answered... i am ordering one next month... and what a great playing and technic...
Nick: thanks for this absolutely fabulous review & demo. You communicated details so effectively, mate. Love this video. I learned so much about this amp! Now I'm going to have to get at least *2* Jet City heads. Blessings!
Great review of this awesome amp! There is a fx loop mod from Epic Amplification that makes a nice difference in the tone too. It was discovered kind of by accident but the results are pretty sweet!
It's definitely inspired by Martin Kidd's work, but Amelia is *not* designed by MK. It does look like the Earhart (I do own one of the 2 made), but the Amelia schematics are very, very different from the Earhart (which btw is a Cornford MK50H II - per my talks with Martin Kidd himself). Having said that, the Amelia (I also own 2 of them) are fantastic amps!
This is an excellent demonstration! Were I able to manage the Amelia's size and weight, I would buy one. My limitations being what they are, I plan to buy a Synergy SYN1 (and one module, to start) to connect to my Jet City Custom 5. Funds allowing, I will also replace my oversize 1x12 with a Jet City JCA24SVe-thus giving me a two-handed grip which is easier to balance, whilst adding only a couple of pounds (thanks to a speaker swap which will reduce both weight and sensitivity).
totally different animal. the amelia is more of the british type tones with a nice clean channel that makes a great pedal platform. 100hdm is a copy of the hotrod 100 which is gain for days. and while you can get decent cleans at lower volumes you dont buy a 100hdm for its cleans imo. and with a few mods it can get pretty darn close to a slo (will never be as good but i know a guy who actually was actually kind of pissed he spent so much on a real slo after hearing one of my heavily modded 100's) nothing will ever be a real slo but a real slo but you can get pretty close.
Effects loop was never fixed cause it was never broke. Just designed for other than cheesy stomp boxes. All tho the TC delay and reverb and such work fine in it. The Amelia has some loop issues also. Watch that German guy's review. One thing I did notice is how much better sounding an amp the Soldano based Jet City's are than the Amelia. My buddy picked one up and to me the overdrive sounds kinda like a buzz box, but then I'm spoiled by Soldano.
the 100 is designed for a rack loop not pedals. ALL 100 models are this way along with the 50h there is a very simple cheap mod to fix it for pedal use.
Just found out Mike Soldano has quit the amp building business. What's to become of Jet City Amps since they had the Soldano affiliation with the JCA50 & JCA100? Will they still be able to sell those? Will Soldano be in any way involved in mods as he has been in the past? Damn. Amp business is whack these days....
Thats too bad that the level jumps with regular pedals in the FX loop. I just about pulled the trigger on one of these but even with the friendly price I can't deal with that.
That's the badger. Jet City have been keen to downplay it, but the amp is at least inspired by, if not actually copied from, the Cornford MK50 mk2. Close enough for £400, anyway.
From what I recall from the JC Facebook group, the Jet City Earhart (prototype) was basically the Conford MK50 II. Amelia was then based on the Earhart but only cosmetically. The circuit is supposedly quite different. I believe Doug (JC owner) confirmed this but it was a while ago. The owner of the Earhart could say for sure.
Are you saying that this review is not a proper demonstration of Amelia's FX loop?... It is rather strange that there are so many 'complaints' regarding this loop. What was wrong with yours, volume jumps?

Jet City Amps are great amps. I have a jca50h which is a Soldano-designed take on the Hot Rod 50. Its a killer for the 425$ CAD i paid for it
I had one too while working on a Punk-Pop record and it got more usage than a Bogner Ecstasy and Orange Rockerverb!!! Such an easy amp to dial

Fantastic review man!!!

Based on the Fender Frontman 15. Love it!
I would mod the overdrive to be switched via footswitch. Then it would almost be a 3 channel amp.
I thought it was foot switchable?

So... are they going to make these amps again?
Sounds great for such an affordable amp.

Great sounding amp. I usually don't care for high gain amps but this is really musical and no fizz
Cornford MK50ii ??
Inspired by the MK50H, but different circuit
For such a low price, it sounds great!
This cost 500 quid?? Sounds pretty epic
like most the stuff jet city produces to be honnest
So how does this compare to the 100HDM?

he is working with BAD now. they are taking over the soldano brand
Nice one..

Bob Epic Amplification actually just came out with a fix for this but it’s $75.. sucks cause it’s necessary to make it usable live
Martin Kidd?

@@low_e_music totally different its simply inspired by the cornford but the earhart was almost a hand wired clone
Great amp but very odd FX loop. I had no luck with it. My JCA100 is amazing
