I've used an RC car to pull fishing string down a long large diameter pipe when the noobs forgot to do it. It was one of those moments when the boss said he didn't care how we did it, the job just had to be done. Used a TRX4. Being that the pipe was plastic and in an open trench the RF went through it. The trick was to keep the car straight. Pulled about three hundred feet of string from a building across a parking lot to a new remote panel. Used it to pull a string down trays in a ceiling as well. Even if we opened the tiles up we couldn't get to the trays because HVAC and other stuff was in the way. The alternative was to throw something and hope the string didn't hang up on anything and stayed in the tray. RCs can be useful. lol
That’s so awesome, huge geology an rockhounding nerd so mixing a copper mine tour with rc is like the best of both worlds 🤙🏾 this gives me an idea for prospecting some of the old mines near me that we have been slowly re-discovering after being hidden for a 100+ years!
that's excellent. i've seen rc's of all types being used in geology and building (i.e. subfloor exploration). but this is new. there is technology to be able to send that signal further. from what i understand, similar to wifi, is it need to drop some extender signal devices along the way. how they get dropped and where, well, that's great engineering feat.
Very cool video! Definitely a special experience. Since you already have a direct connection to the vehicle with the safety rope, there should be a way to run some wires down it to control the truck directly, rather than relying on the radio range. In order to use a regular radio still, you would probably have to leave the receiver at the opening of the tunnel and run some super long wires (200+ ft? LOL) to the servo and ESC.
Good truck choice for the location, and a good test for a new truck! Such a cool opportunity. Did you have a GPS module on the truck so they could map that tunnel?
Brother!!! You were literally down the street from me!!! I couldn't agree more on how much history is in that place. They reopened to the public about 6 years ago I think. Keep the great footage coming my good man!!!
@@rcdriver I'd love to hear your thoughts on upgrades on Mojave 4S... I just got one, and would like to put bigger tires and stiffer springs on to start with... Love to hear your input brother.. Cheers!!! D
This a great crawling adventure, and educational at the same. When you're in an underground mine without lights there is no light at all. That would've been a hard core prison.
Yeah, I saw that rise in the pipe and knew it would be a problem. My best guess was to squeeze the truck towards the wall side and hopefully push the pipe until it passed to a low spot. It worked! Just wish we had more FPV signal range.
That is so cool! A 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity! Need to go in with a control tether or support vehicles with radio repeaters on them. That sounds like fun!
Yup! A blast. We just put it together with the hobby grade equipment we had. It certainly needs some more powerful equipment with the rock most likely still containing some copper ore.
@rcdriver I'm not sure. I ordered in the first wave, a red one, at 9:01a.m. on May 14th. They generated a label on May 17th at FedEx in California. FedEx has never received it. Rlaarlo hasn't responded to my emails or their own chat. I own every Rlaarlo, Amoril, Crobull product. Unlike the problems people had with the 917, 787, and OT mine came right on time. Guessing it's my turn to suffer. Was really looking forward to this one. Between you and Joe from Exocaged I'm dying to try it!
You’re a ballsey dude Greg!! Going in them mine tunnels… man, anything could happen. It’s so small and rustic… the Rlaarlo did well. I wish their customer service would do the same…
It’s a state park with daily tours. And they just had experts in to check the integrity of the mine. But yeah, let’s just say that type of space was not exactly in my comfort zone. 😬
@@rcdriver that’s what I was thinking… my luck there would be a freak earthquake while I was down there😳… at least that’s what my mind would be telling me.
Supposedly. To be honest, I chose it simply because it already had a ton of lights, it could carry all the cameras and it had the extra weights already installed to keep it stable. Still needs better steering and after this run, 3 shocks started leaking. 😕
@@rcdriver yeah, that thing looks like a Christmas tree when lit. 😅 Too bad about the shocks. That's quite a premature failure... =/ I didn't get what you lost signal in... Was it the FPV or the truck's radio?
I wonder what those prisoners would have thought if they could see into the future and see an RC Crawler navigating through there. Years from now when the earth is overrun with AI powered androids it could look different again.
IF they're curious - just for the sake of nosiness I wouldn't mind crawling down there, that would be really something to do - expecially if you would find any artifacts!
With the copper ore in the rock, it would take some special equipment outside of hobby grade to get down that tunnel. But definitely a cool spot to check out nonetheless.
Definitely an awsome experience I love taking my vs4 10 on vacation and awsome adventures
Awesome video! Waiting on parts to fix my MK07 right now and would LOVE to find something like that to crawl down! Great video!
Driving an RC in a mine is AWESOME!!! I did it 2 years ago. 👍👍👍

you could use a really long cable for wired fpv instead of wireless, already have a rope going to the truck for recovery anyway
Beautiful truck!🏁🏁🏁

Awesome video Greg, often though a crawler could be used for this type of work but as you say signal is an issue underground
Awesome crawl and tour Greg very cool!!👊✌
Thanks! That experience was a blast!
Wow!! That was cool.👍🏼Thanks for making this video.
Thanks!
Thanks so much!

This is so neat. You got an assignment for your RC. Smart idea tying a rope to the jeep. Very skillful driving over the rocks and cable.

Thats so awesome. You should find a to send it farther in. Lol thanks for that great vidio.
this was so cool! Thanks for sharing this adventure.
Thanks for checking it out!
That was a cool adventure, thanks for sharing!
that looked way more fun then I thought it would. had to be a blast doing that.
Right?! Even though we lost FPV signal range and had to back out the drive and anticipation was still exciting.
That was badass. I wonder if a traxxas summit would be better to try in there. Thank you for sharing great video.
Very cool bud👍
What a cool adventure with your Truck! Maybe a DJI O3 FPV unit might give you better range?
Cool indeed 👍👍🤙
I think it was cool!

Great great great great learn video with awesome RC’s. Hey you gotta try and do more like this soooooo koool
Yeah, it was fun. Have to think of more like it.
Outstanding krawling , crazy place your at ,, very cool!!!
Thanks! Never imagined myself crawling in an old mine/ prison. It wound up being pretty cool!
Nice. Love a little something different like this 👍
Thanks! Yup, was nice to get out of the same cycle of videos.
using RC trucks to scavenge for historical artifacts is truly epic
I was not expecting this, wow! Thanks for taking us on the adventure, too cool 😃
Thanks bud! Very cool experience to share!
Very cool! Mine still hasn't arrived though....😢
Weren’t they offering some slow free ship option? Is that what’s holding it up?

The walls are rock solid, some mines are more dangerous than others.. and then it varies within the mine itself.
That mine is probably more stable than a lot of peoples' homes.

Very cool! That would've been awesome if you found something! Great video tho!!
I wish we could have gone further. I drove until the signal cut out completely. Apparently the tunnel is really long.
very cool!

Funny you chose that Rlaarlo. Aren't they releasing an FPV version of that truck?

Remote control is coming soon! You can control anywhere you want at home! As long as there is a signal!
