Nick Ariondo, virtuoso accordionist/composer & Double Grammy Award Winner performs the Nikolai Chaikin: Concerto No.1 in Bb Major for Accordion & Orchestra with the Olympia Philharmonic Orchestra, Fung Ho, conductor/music director, sponsored by the Hennings-Fischer Foundation and the Olympia Philharmonic Society, 2005 [A Noumi Fischer Legacy Concert]. Throughout the years, Nick Ariondo worked closely with string pedagogue Noumi Fischer, performing in his master classes, orchestra concerts & string recitals, adapting piano scores for the accordion while accompanying violin, viola & cello concertos, sonatas and recital pieces. Noumi Fischers insight and openness in recognizing the validity and seriousness of the accordion was most appreciated. Upon hearing Nicks performance of this concerto at UCLAs Royce Hall to a full capacity auditorium, conductor Zubin Mehta called Nick Ariondo a brilliant success! (The Armenian Observer, Ed Hosharian concert review). Nick expresses sincere thanks to the Hennings-Fischer Foundation as it was an honor to partake in this memorable concert tribute in dedication to the great violin master, Noumi Fischer. The accordion concerto, originally written for the bayan - the Russian chromatic-button accordion - displays the ultimate beauty and style of Russian folk music in a classical/romantic setting similar to that of Tchaikovsky and other composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

*É terrível, este Nick Ariondo!*
*Não me canso de ouvir.* ☺
I am an accordion player myself, but can’t still get myself to accept an accordion in a symphonic arrangement. In some places it seems to used where piano would be used, in some places where flutes/piccolo would be used, or trumpet.
If one instrument can do it all, saves time, money, effort and space.
Sort of makes me wish I stuck with accordion, but it was probably a good idea to switch to guitar.
too bad there's a strange edit into the cadenza.
yes, I do not understand why piano accordion is not valued more
