Mick get your S*** together. Even if you have cored a player like if Indiana cored Kelsey Mitchel a team can still trade for a cored player. CBS: " Speaking of trades, teams are allowed to trade for another team's core player even if they already have their own core player on the roster, though those situations arise rarely." Get it right.
Sure. It is rare because of salary cap issue. Cored means super-max salary. Trade another cored player in you have another super-max player. Not too many teams have the room to sign two super-max players.
Dude, teams can only core one player, but if they get cored player via trade that cored player is not counted against the team. E.g. mercury cored griner and got SDS who got cored by the wings and then traded to mercury several years ago.
Plum and Mitchell are both great. Maybe even slightly favor Plum due to experience she carried a few games when the Aces were winning the chips. I wouldn't look to move Mitchell if she wants in the spot is hers but if she says I want out and you can swap for Plum take that all day...
Theyre only allowed to core one player, but the core designation does not apply to core and trades, I.e. they can still do a deal and trade with someone cored from another team. That core designation does not transfer with a trade.
Mick, the core rules don’t apply to a new team. So the Fever could core Kelsey. Dallas could core Satou. Dallas could then trade Satou to the Fever and she would not count as being cored against the Fever’s roster. Assuming Kelsey is not included in the trade for Satou, she could then just sign the super-max deal and stay with the Fever as their one cored player in 2025.
Seriously, Kelsey Mitchell? Name one time she has increased the efficiency of the team. Does she ever get her team mates involved? Does she ever not kill clock? Does she ever not play hero ball, losing at it 75% of the time?
All I know is she’s been on the team since 2018 and they never made the playoffs until 2024. I also don’t like the way she seems to want to leave the Fever from things she’s said and that article she wrote. Bring on Kelsey Plum. She likes Caitlin. Fever fans will love her. Mitchell can go somewhere that makes her happy and continue not making the playoffs.
@@ericMT Well, from a basketball perspective - KM breaks up floor chemistry and ball movement. This takes her teammates out of the flow which leads to cold 4th quarters, allowing Ds to key solely on KM and CC. People appear to be wowed by a few playground plays and game winners that come along as often as a broken clock works. She's likely the greatest loser in WNBA history and was never on board for CC ball, undermining the Fever i nthe playoffs as well. Plum has a better since of spacing and is a far far better lane runner and on point defender. This should be an easy choice.
Actually, Kelsey Mitchell was integral to the Fever's success last year. Kelsey is a phenomenal player who meshes well with C-Square. To quote Angel in the famous Western movie ("The Wild Bunch") - You have no eyes.
Did you only watch the first half of the season? She was great the second half. She's efficient, saved them many times with time running out, makes good cuts, finishes against anyone and is what the Fever need, offensively.
I am about to leave here because you keep saying the wrong thing about the core rules. You can trade for a cored player even if an organization has cored a player. Do you even read the comments on your videos because this is not new? Here it is again from CBSSPORTS: "Speaking of trades, teams are allowed to trade for another team's core player even if they already have their own core player on the roster, though those situations arise rarely." December 2024.
The Indianapolis Star says the Fever can core Mitchell and trade for Sabaly: "Mitchell has two years of core service left, which is a supermaximum salary of around $249,000 in exchange for exclusive negotiating rights, and the Fever are planning to use the first of them in 2025. It wouldn’t be an immediate issue - a sign-and-trade for Sabally means her core designation wouldn’t show up on either Dallas’ or Indiana’s books in 2025." January 9, 2025
Kelcie Plum's stats have dropped the last two years - she is on a downswing. Still very good but not getting her at her best. Kelcie Mitchell is better.
Mitchell already said she would always be in Caitlin's backcourt and always have her back. Sabally is going to Indiana along with another veteran. Sabally said she would love to play with her sister someday. That day just isn't now because she see's what she has to gain financially and she will probably win multiple championships alongside Clark, Boston, Hull and Mitchell
Whoever that trades for a Cored player it’s so risky. You might say “the face of the franchise,” but then the Cored player can just leave after that one year.
Mick you are wrong about Chelsea Gray. I expect her to return to form before the injury. You act like that serious injury did not happen and it did not affect her play last season.
My choice would be Kelsey Mitchell over Kelsey Plum. But if KM needs to leave, then the Fever need to do that swap for KP. No question. Everything hinges on what KM wants to do. If both KM and Satou get cored then the Fever may end up using KM in a trade with the Wings for Satou and the Fever will need to find another way to trade for KP.
Possibilities are close to endless! Why does the Fever have to core Kelsey Mitchell? If KM's family is there why would she want to move??? And so on and so forth??
Let her do what she wants. People act like she’s a top 5 player in the league. Sure she was #2 pick after A’ja Wilson in 2018 but she obviously has not been nearly as impactful. If she wants to go, that’s fine. If she wants to stay, also fine. She has a little time left to decide.
I said this before, but I will try again to see if Mick gets it this time...Fever can core Mitchell and still trade for Sabally even if Dallas cores her... I base this on what Dallas and Phoenix did with Diggins-Smith: The Wings did a similar transaction to trade Skylar Diggins-Smith to the Mercury in 2020 - Diggins-Smith was cored by Dallas and traded to Phoenix, which had already cored Brittney Griner. Because Diggins-Smith was not specifically cored by Phoenix, the Mercury could have both players on those contracts.
There's reasons why I'm not a GM, for a baseball team .. trade Kelsey's, assuming they both want out of their present teams, course, .. maybe is OK. Plum, starting instead of Mitchell .. perhaps the offense fast breaks, and passing might pick up a tick .. Plum's pretty tenacious on defense, isn't she? A few less 3 pointers .. maybe a bit less pressure on Caitlin, overall, & play less minutes? If I were Mitchell, .. I'd reconsider moving on, though.
I think Kelsey Mitchell is staying. But Kelsey Plum wants away from Aja who is Me-Me-Me just like Angel Reece. Pretty soon, nobody will want to play with either of them.
Wrong Mick. If you have a cored player (Kelsey Mitchell) you can trade for a cored player (Sabaly). This was done in 2020 according to the Indianapolis Star: "The Wings did a similar transaction to trade Skylar Diggins-Smith to the Mercury in 2020 - Diggins-Smith was cored by Dallas and traded to Phoenix, which had already cored Brittney Griner. Because Diggins-Smith was not specifically cored by Phoenix, the Mercury could have both players on those contracts." January 9, 2025

Coring players a year before every player is a free agent because of the CBA reset isn’t smart. If the player wants to leave, let them go. It will be impossible to trade them for draft picks because the math is bad and you are creating Ill will with the player. You’d be much better off not coring them and taking you medicine with an eye on 2026 when I expect there will be massive player movement. You can only core 1 player per year and every team is going to have 6-8 players that can leave next year. Building player trust is everything this year
I hear a lot of chatter in the comments about trades and getting draft picks. I don't want 2025 draft picks. Why draft people who you are going to lose in next years expansion draft (2 players). And in 2026, there's another expansion draft where they lose another player for 0 compensation.
2026 draft picks will be really important, actually. Every team is going to lose 2 of their best bench players, so if a team can backfill with good talent on rookie deals, then they will have more cap space to chase free agents in the so-called "Great Reset".
@@aden538 I thought of that but here's the problem. Because of the pending new CBA, after the 2025 season for most of the WNBA there will be only 2 types of players. Players on rookie contracts or players who will be free agents. If the teams follow the same rules as this year they will protect players under contract and leave all the free agents unprotected. After all if the expansion teams claim a free agent, that player can walk because there is no contract to hold them. I think the league will have to do something totally different. Either pospone the expansion or just let the 2 new teams get the 1st. 24 draft picks. I'm not big on this one. I think they should do the first; pospone the expansion.
@@jjleeisme Fair point. I went and looked at team contract situations and yeah there won't be much of an expansion draft unless they reduce the number of protected players. However, I don't think the WNBA will have to do much at all since most teams will be in the same boat: some rookies and a bunch of cap space. Maybe they forgo the expansion draft altogether and just give the new teams extra draft picks, like an extra pick at the end of the second round, maybe another extra at the end of the third. I don't see anything more than that happening.
First, CBSSports says this - I included the quote. Second it makes no sense. This rule would severely tie the hands of teams if they want to move a player or make trades. She's already the highest paid player on the Fever. Paid way more than Ariel Atkins, a much better all around player. If the Fever pay her the max she's going to end up a ball and chain investment for the Fever, worse than even Wheeler's bloated contract. I think Plum at the max is also far overpaying for another player whose prime was around 2023 and is on the backswing of their career. If I had to pick one between Mitchell, Plum, or Satally I'm taking the Unicorn.
