Thankfully their superb songwriting skills meant they sat in the background a bit writing hit songs for other artists til they themselves returned with a different sound in the late 80s too. They're English but moved to Australia when Barry was 12 and the other Brothers were 9 stayed their for around 9 or 10yrs then went back home to England. This performance was from 1979 promoting their new album Spirits Having Flown. The song got to number one in 1976.
Speedway promoter and driver Bill Goode, who had hired the brothers to entertain the crowd at the Redcliffe Speedway in 1960, introduced them to Brisbane radio-presenter jockey Bill Gates. The crowd at the speedway would throw money onto the track for the boys, who generally performed during the interval of meetings (usually on the back of a truck that drove around the track) and, in a deal with Goode, any money they collected from the crowd they were allowed to keep. Gates named the group the "BGs" (later changed to "Bee Gees") after his, Goode's and Barry Gibb's initials. The name was not specifically a reference to "Brothers Gibb", despite popular belief
They were born and spent their early childhood in England....they emigrated to Australia for about 8 years, before coming back home to England. Eventually, they got the call from America to trial their music for a movie called "Saturday Night Fever"....the tag "King's of Disco" was born! Barry and Maurice stayed in America, whilst Robin loved being at home in England and lived in Oxfordshire until he sadly passed in 2012. Now you've entered in to their disco phase, try "Night Fever" it was the song that put the Bee Gees on the map, the rest is history.
They moved to America before Saturday Night Fever as it was suggested by Eric Clapton to do so as they were having no success in the UK. They had hits in the US before Night Fever.
I see that 48 years later this song is still rocking like it did when it came out. It's not fair to make me go back so far in time. But I have to say that I like it, so thank you. and it's lyrics to this song: My baby moves at midnight Goes right on 'til the dawn My woman takes me higher My woman keeps me warm What you doin' on your bed on your back? Ah What you doin' on your bed on your back? BeeGees came from their manager Bill Gates. In a meeting with him, their mom Barbara, Barry and Bill have initials BG. Bill said we have a bunch of BG's here. That's where the name came from.
They are from the UK then emigrated to Australia, they wrote a lot of songs for other big artists, and their songs were used for Saturday night fever and this was one of them, thats why you see John Travolta dancing, this was my era just fantastic, pure raw talent ❤️
Best time ever to be alive as a teenager,70s, 80s. In 1978 I was in Florida serving aboard HMS ARK ROYAL RO9. This music was so actual at the time. People dressing like characters from Saturday Night Fever and dancing the same… Absolutely amazing times…
If you listen to the live version and look at the lyrics given, at least on Amazon music, they are saying What you doin on your back? It's just with an echo effect.
My dad took my sister, me, and our friend to see Saturday Night Fever at the drive-in. He wasn't ready for the make-out scenes. We're in the back seat, watching my dad's head go lower and lower and lower in his seat and it cracked us all up. The Bee Gees were the best part of the Disco era.
They wrote more than a thousand songs and even some for other artists which also became top hits. They had top hits over 4 decades and through multiple genres.

THEY'RE UP THERE WITH MJ, ELVIS, THE BEATLES, ETC., IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME! IT'S GREAT THAT THEY'RE RECEIVING WELL DESERVED RECOGNITION OF THEIR TRUE TALENTS!
No bad songs. Brothers Gibb. From England, spent 12 years in Australia when their dad moved there for work. Went back to England to launch their career on a large scale. Wrote and recorded 1000s of songs beginning as kids in the late 1950s and continued up until 2004 when brother Maurice (Morris) passed away suddenly. Unbelievable catalog. Great lyricists too. You need to explore all the decades of their music. They could play any style. It's even fun to check them out as kids (RUclips as a few examples in black and white of them singing together very young, and they already had it even back then). Once in a lifetime talent.
The BeeGees absolutely ruled disco in the 1970’s. What most people don’t know is the BeeGees have been around since the mid 60’s and Disco renewed their careers. Does she not recognize John Travolta dancing?
The original lyrics are “you should be dancin” the words are, “what’s chu doin in your bed, and the echo is, on your back.” So, it’s “whatchu doin in your bed, on your back.?”
Yeah, the boomers were dancing at the clubs and Disco’s. We started getting ready to dance with make-up and clothes at 9:00 we when “clubbing” to disco.

Yes. Andy was in that video too! I tell you what, they were an AWESOME group! They could do high energy, or ballads! I liked Andy too when he struck out on his own. Sad what happened to him though. Those brothers had soul! You gotta admit, Travolta was killin that dance solo lol!
The BeeGees are a band of three brothers. Any Gib is a 4th brother that's a solo act. but in this video all 4 are performing together on a BeeGee song. Also this was in a big blockbuster movie with John Travolta. He was in the dancing cuts.
Maddy, colleges use to teach dancing and disco. I took a class and got far too good at dancing . So good girls would drag me out if my dirm room to the disco to dance with me ! I eventually had to go to another school to get my education ! True story !😂
My favorite disco era Bee Gees song. Love all era of Bee Gees they were so diverse. They have some not so good songs, but it's rare (and one person's bad song is another's favortite). Bee Gees was originally BGs and was realted to a lot of people with those initials involved in the beginning (Promoters, Mangers, and family), it later evolved to represent Brothers Gibb. They were born on Isle of Mann, but moved to Australia and started their career there quite young.
The name Bee Gees comes from the initial letters B and G from B ill G oode, B ill G ates, B arbra G ibb, B arry G ibb and b rothers G ibb. Radio-presenter jockey Bill Gates named the group the "BGs" (later changed to "Bee Gees") after his, Goode's and Barrys and Barbras Gibb's initials. The name was not specifically a reference to "Brothers Gibb", despite popular belief.
Loved your reaction! Bee Gees is Brothers Gibb. Don't know if u noticed that there were four of them. They were joined by their brother Andy. He had some great solo songs of his own also.
Check out Andy Gibb singing I Just Want To Be Your Everything live on The Midnight Special--his first of 3 consecutive #1 hits--he was 19 years old and sooo talented just like his brothers❤❤❤❤
@@robinfry4408 Barry wrote I Just Want To Be Your Everything for Andy in 20 min! Then he wrote (Love Is) Thicker Than Water that same afternoon, while in Bermuda with Andy (who was on his honeymoon♥️)! Those were the first 2 consecutive #1 hits!♥️
You missed that was John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever. This song was part of the soundtrack that outsold any other movie soundtrack ever produced
*Bee Gees* is the pronunciation of B.G. which stands for *Brothers Gibb* , since they family name is *GIBB* I hope to have helped. Greetings from Brazil
This was the first time all 4 brothers performed together before Andy (the one with the short hair next to the bearded Maurice) passed away at a young age The Bee Gees is short for the 'Barry Gibbs' after the lead vocalist, oldest brother and the only surviving member left 😢 Barry Gibb This song (amongst a few) was on the John Travolta movie Saturday Night Fever soundtrack
The Gibbs were from England, moved to Australia in the late 1950s, when Barry was 12. The Bee Gees moved back to England in early 1967 to pursue their careers.
Seeing younger Andy up there with his Bee Gees brothers is special, he was the youngest but the closest with the older brother Barry. He was actually supposed to be the 4th official member of the Bee Gees, but Andy sadly passed away just after Barry announced it in 1988.

😂
My favorite disco era Bee Gees song. Love all era of Bee Gees they were so diverse. They have some not so good songs, but it's rare (and one person's bad song is another's favortite). Bee Gees was originally BGs and was realted to a lot of people with those initials involved in the beginning (Promoters, Mangers, and family), it later evolved to represent Brothers Gibb. They were born on Isle of Mann, but moved to Australia and started their career there quite young.
Not many Disco era bands have transcended through so many generations and still be loved in 2024.....maybe Abba!! Looking beautiful as ever Maddy!!
So good!!! 🩷
Not a disco band, been making music since the 60's.
@@jeffhampton5040 agree, but you cant argue that their popularity soared during the disco era of the 70's?
We should be dancing¡😂 I suggest “Alone”, it’s beautifull
This is the best video because all 4 Gibb brothers are up on the stage together! The only one left is Barry (lead singer) 😢
😭
I never knew lyrics to this song so just made them up in my head. Good song.
😂
50+ years on and it all most impossible to sit still while listening to the bee gees
Hey Maddy, I remember when this came out like yesterday, such fun times, never to be back,,,
The name Bee Gees comes from the initial letters B and G from B ill G oode, B ill G ates, B arbra G ibb, B arry G ibb and b rothers G ibb.
Oh wow!!! 🤯
Some of his hits are I Just Want To Be Your Everything & Shadow Dancing

Hoping she'll react to Andy soon, too!
We should be dancing !
Fun times! Every Friday and Saturday night at the disco!
If I tried dancing like John Travolta, I would rupture both of my knees. 😫
From the film Saturday Night Fever, and you see John Travolta doing his thang on the dance floor.
You missed that was John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever. This song was part of the soundtrack that outsold any other movie soundtrack ever produced
*Bee Gees* is the pronunciation of B.G. which stands for *Brothers Gibb* , since they family name is *GIBB*
I hope to have helped. Greetings from Brazil
The Gibb brothers rarely seen all 4 at the same time performing live .
This was the first time all 4 brothers performed together before Andy (the one with the short hair next to the bearded Maurice) passed away at a young age
The Bee Gees is short for the 'Barry Gibbs' after the lead vocalist, oldest brother and the only surviving member left 😢 Barry Gibb
This song (amongst a few) was on the John Travolta movie Saturday Night Fever soundtrack
Need to see Andy Gibb " Shadow Dancing " definitely worth a Watch, Very sophisticated. ✨️✨️✨️🔮✨️✨️✨️
You should listen to New York mining disaster and Massachusetts. Both early Bee Gees songs. Classic harmonies.
Love the BeeGees ❤
"Stayin' Alive", to me, is their best fast song!
The Gibbs were from England, moved to Australia in the late 1950s, when Barry was 12.
The Bee Gees moved back to England in early 1967 to pursue their careers.
They wrote 3 number 1 hits in one day!!!😊
OMG??!
@@MaddyReactions too much heaven, tragedy, and shadow dancing
B.G. were the initials of their first producer, as per Barry.
That’s John Travolta on the the dance floor, he had moves back then
BeeGees means 'brother's Gibb' (They're brothers: Barry, Maurice and Robin - Gibb)
They're saying "what you doing on your bed on your back."
Grew up in early life in England but moved to Australia.
