  • When you order a Tesla, you get to choose which wheels you want on the car. The Standard Range and Long Range have the option of the 18" Aero Wheels or 19" Sport Wheels. The Performance model comes with 20" Performance Wheels. This video is my discussion on why I think the 18" aero wheels are the best option.

    Correction: the bigger wheel means you have a smaller sidewall. The overall tyre diameter is the same.
    The great efficiency comes from having more tyre sidewall to flex over small road imperfections and smooths out the ride. So less energy is wasted elsewhere riding over bumps.

    Yeah that’s what I hear. The 20 inch wheels are more susceptible to potholes and flat tires. That’s why I got the 18 inch Aeros. And last put not least the price. FREE. 😁👍

    Mostly want to trade in my 20inch to 18s to feel less bumps in the road. Car is getting louder with bumps the longer I own it.

    The purpose of the Air capsules is to reduce air resistance. And air resistance is stated to have an effect on the range of electric cars. on the other hand, perhaps the capsules could have been made of some form of metal such as sheet metal. For example, the caps on a Mercedes in the 70s and 80s were not plastic

    I took the Aeros off my model 3 yesterday and replaced with a cheap Amazon hub kit - black/red Tesla logo centrecaps with the bolt covers.
    I’m actually in two minds with the decision. Not sure I’m feeling the aero wheels without the covers. I can’t even tell you why 😂 the model 3 is quite big and slab sided and then there are these skinny spoked wheels with big gaps sat there. My car is white which might also be why though. Perhaps I’m looking too much into it!

    The rotational inertia of a wheel /tire combination is a function of mass and radius squared. Since the radius is squared, the effect of increasing the radius from 18” to 19” is 11%. Going to a 20” wheel is even worse! Reducing mass is a linear function, and an increase in mass has the opposite effect. Since the motor’s torque is the same starting from rest, increasing rotational inertia will reduce angular acceleration, and thus, linear acceleration. There are other effects as well, handling, responsiveness to bumps , etc. High school Physics folks!

    Nice to see the options. Can you leave the nut covers and center logo cover on and put the aero hub cap back on if I want. Thinking of saving work and not taking a chance losing a nut cover or small hub cover. Thank you for a great video and another option.

    • @BecauseTesla
      @BecauseTesla  2 года назад +2

      Unfortunately you will not be able to leave the center logo cover on. The aero wheel cover uses the same mechanism that the logo cover does to attach to the wheel. It has additional connections on the spokes. You should be able to leave the lug nut covers on though.

    Introducing our new product, Titanium lug nuts, 29% stronger and nearly 50% lighter than steel which results in a decreased rotational wheel mass. Used to set up your Tesla cars and make it more great. I know where can you get it at a great price. Our available colors are Gold and Burnt Blue. If you are interested you may reply on this comment:)

    Do you recommend forge wheels and spoiler for increase range?

    • @BecauseTesla
      @BecauseTesla  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, if you can afford it, lighter wheels to reduce weight and better aerodynamics will help improve range. Hard to say how much range, but at least it will look cool.

    Great vid, I’m worried about kerb rash. I’d like a cover to put on to protect the alloys, and when damaged, just replace. Is there anything on the market? I am getting my M3 29 March, 18” wheels

      Yes, Abstract Ocean sells a product called Rim Savers. They're exactly what you're looking for. I have a set that I haven't installed yet, but I will be in the near future. They come in multiple colors, but black would look the most stealth. abstractocean.com/collections/all-model-3/products/rimsavers?aff=becausetesla

    The rotors on the Tesla hurt my feelings

    • @BecauseTesla
      @BecauseTesla  2 года назад

      The rotors aren't so bad for normal street driving, but they definitely need an upgrade if you plan on tracking the car. "Unplugged Performance" is a company that makes big brake kits to upgrade the rotors and calipers if you ever need to.

    • @BecauseTesla

      Yes, that's an option too. The lug nut covers are what comes from the factory, so it's just a more factory look. If I were to buy aftermarket lug nuts, I would look at the Titanium lugs from Unplugged Performance. The only thing holding me back is the $495 price tag. LOL
