- Having a gas torch lighter on the workbench is very useful when constantly igniting a gas torch.
A fun light-hearted video quickly and easily making a budget automatic gas torch lighter igniter.

That’s an awesome pile of hinges that you have.
thanks for that Robin … A bounty of bits in boxes and a hinge for every occasion … N
You smarty pants!!!, you said you were going to do it…I didn’t realize it was going to be so simple for you. Should’v known!!!. 🥰
thanks for that Consuelo … i’ve seen so many commercial ones I thought I would have a go at a DIY budget version … cheers … N
Nice one Nick, absolute genius. I like your simple projects, all I can handle. 😀
thanks for that Ant … yes nice and simple, the only tricky bit was aligning the hole so the lighter sits in the right place … cheers … Nick
Brilliantly simple! Would love to know your thought process in coming up with this.
hi Richard … i’d probably had a think about it every time I saw one of those posh expensive ones that are on the market now starring in lots of videos … cheers … Nick
I won't go to the store, lighters are lying on benches in the park!!!!
I prefer rubbing two sticks together … N
Hi Nick well done on the invention, it's a real pain picking up the igniter all of the time isn't it. I just noticed that you have a Smith little torch, or I think that's what it is. You responded to my query on the Cooksongold forum about wanting to ball up the short end of silver wire that has passed through a bead and strip if silver. If you forget about damaging the bead (thermal shock) would your Smiths torch melt/ball up a 2.5 to 3mm long 0.8 diameter silver wire right up to the body of the strip as I described on the forum? Second question, what oxygen source do you use for that torch?
Regards . . Andy
hi Andy, yes I think it would easily achieve this, but I suppose you never know until you try something. I imagine the strip would just have to get hot as well until the wire melts first. having the hole the wire passes through slightly larger may also help. I’ve had my beloved Smith’s Little Torch about 6 years and now only really use it for casting, however it come in very handy for jobs like you are trying to achieve. I use a supplier called hobby weld or hobby gas for oxygen that offer a refundable deposit scheme on there bottles which is much more convenient than most.
This video was meant to be just a bit of fun after seeing how much a commercial electronic lighter igniter would cost to buy … cheers … Nick.
I don’t know how I missed this video… you are genius 🤓🤓🤓… I’m going to make on for myself… Thsnks for all your fabulous ideas 💡 Autumn Michelle
thanks for that Autumn. Had to have a go at making something, I just couldn’t bring myself to spend £50 on a posh one … N
Definitely going to make one.
Resourceful at a whole different level + without complication = Genius. Cheers Nick.
A bit of fun making this after seeing how much commercial ones cost … N
Careful when you pass wind, you may light the wrong torch! 🍑 Simply genius. -M
thanks Monty, hadn’t thought of that probably work well as a fart igniter … N 😲
This is a cool idea! I've always wanted something easier to light my Little Smith torch and I'm definitely going to make one of these, or have hubby do it. 😉 Thanks for another great idea and for sharing!
Thanks Juanita, had to have a go at making something after seeing so many people using the posh expensive version. being a hobbyist I have to prioritise what tools I spend my money on and if I can make something that works I’d rather do that … N
OMG this is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time! You need to patent and sell these. If you could come up with a "cute version" the sewing community uses lighters for thread, zippers, webbing and such and are in dire need of a lighter that can be used to aid in our work. Keep up the Fantastic work! 💙 Your channel!
thanks for your suggestion Kera … i’ve made a few variations of this sort of thing … I imagine for sewing you need something continuously lit … whereas these cheap plastic lighters may overheat and become dangerous if permanently lit … A long neck cooker lighter might be better … N
Woo hoo! If I ever graduate to a big girl torch, I'm going to make one of these! Thanks!
thanks for that Carmen … also good for my small auto torches that are old and have lost their spark … N
Brilliant. This works a treat. Thank you.
thanks Deborah, a simple solution for saving money and not buying a posh manufacturers one … N
Excellent idea thank you. Theo
thanks for that Theo … N
What an awesome idea
thanks for that Cassandra … nice to save money with a cheap alternative … N
Love your ideas 👏
thanks for that Minipuds … N
Thats awesome!!!!!
Thanks for that Off Ya Rocka … N
Creative 😁👍
thanks for that Kaxitaksi … N
Well done! Do you run the oxygen for your little torch from bottle or a concentrator ? Cheers Jim
hi Jim, I use a large bottle of oxygen from hobby gas … no rental fee just a deposit … not committed to investing in a concentrator yet … cheers … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff Thanks for the info. I invested in the concentrator as I didn't fancy having an oxygen gas bottle in the workshop and the compact size of the concentrator goes under the bench. Cheers Jim
i’m not sure if it’s correct but I read somewhere if you don’t use one for awhile sometimes they can stop working … N
Brilliant!
thanks for that G.M … N
😀👍
thanks for that Alexander … N
Excelente ❤
Thanks Ivan … N
so simple and useful! so great!
Thanks Tenebrae, an economy version of the commercial variety … N
@@Nickscreativestuff yeah! man, you're awesome! Thanks!
👍😎👍 … N
Гениально!👍👏👏👏
thanks … 👍😎👍 … N
This is fantastic !
Cheers Lisa, this was originally a bit of a spoof after seeing how much the commercial ones cost … N
@@Nickscreativestuff well, it's a great idea !
i’m surprised how much use it gets and it’s still going strong… N
Nice one... that would make me dare to start a solderingtool... that's the scary part..
hi Malika, this igniter is great for big scary torches, what you need to start with I think is a small refillable self-igniting butane torch the sort sometime used in a kitchen … cheers … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff thank you for the advice. Can you solder copper with that?
yes definitely but only up to a small sized item something like the size of a small coin or ring … N
@@Nickscreativestuff that's all that I need. Gonna look into that. Thank you... 😘
