Bummer you had to abort the mission. Valve lash of all things. In addition to my TW, I've acquired both a Honda CT90 and CT110 (aka "Postie Bike") in the last 1.5 years. The CT90 recently stranded me due to the spark plug gap getting too wide to spark. A friend with a truck rescued me and it took a while to figure out the problem. The best I can figure is the tip of the plug broke/burnt off. The gap was then too wide (given the setting of the points) to spark. At least your ruckus it was a low cost fix (except for the truck rental!). Great adventure (attempt). Thank for posting.
That was an awesome video DD. Not everything works out the way we plan it all the time. It's more fun to go on a big adventure on a small bike than it is to go on a small adventure on a big bike. Ride On my friend!
Those ruckus adventure vlogs are the bomb. i love em. i hope you make more ! The feeling of adventure is magnified with a small scooter like the ruckus
Props to you for at least trying that on the Ruckus. You were correct, you bypassed Bethel Ridge and it died on you passing Cleman Mtn. Glad you made it home safe
Sorry you had to end it early man. As a bike tech for 30 years, if the lash goes to zero to the point it holds the valve open some when hot, the valve may be beginning to tulip some. I'd put 5 or 600mi on it local and check it again to make sure it isn't tightening up. Haven't had to do it on a ruckus yet, but all the race and hot rod bikes with titanium valves, I replace with Vesrah stainless and you hardly have to touch them again. Enjoyed the series nonetheless!! Good stuff!
The fact is the 250 Chinahawk bike long trips have been done but a Ruckus is something crazy and not been done. We all know crazy is interesting and is where legends are made.
Im about to move to WY from NW WA, and Im sad I didn't get the time to rip my Grom up the WABDR, but you're making me want to do it on a visiting trip lol.
I had a rear flat on my Ruck last week on the way to my favorite cafe for lunch. First time it let me down in 8800 miles. Got it to the repair shop, gonna get a set of new tires, brake calipers adjusted, new air filter, oil change, antifreeze change, and on the shop formans advise…valve adjustment…my white bumble bee should run like new! Just had hand surgery for trigger finger release, so in a couple of weeks I will be back out riding again! Yeah, I think if you had stayed off the dirt, you would have not had it leave you stranded…all that vibration is just not good for it.
@mikehoward8201 hopefully you can get back out on the Ruck soon. I got that Forza rear shock now and it helps out so much. Still have to adjust the preload though.
My wife and I spent a long night on Cleman Mtn. She dumped her bike multiple times and had issues riding it down to Wenas. I basically rode her bike down and mine while she hiked off the summit. FYI…You bypassed Bethel Ridge. From what I could tell, you rode the easy bypass…. Probably for the better. 😊 I actually liked it better before it all burned Sorry to see your ruckus trip end. If you ever in a bind… you have my contact info. Retired for nearly 2 years now. Adventure rescue service would be kind of fun. And yes, I agree with your dad. 😮
Ah man i see what you mean by quit being fun. Glad you made it out alive and well. You mentioned on the last video that you installed a new shock, what other mods are you planning for the little turdbergler
@Core_VII nothing to crazy really. Didn't buy it to go fast for sure. Just want to keep it simple . Maybe look into changing out the fwd springs with something heavier and that's it
What vibration dampening phone mount do you use? Quad lock is hella expensive, but if it's built with better plastic than others I supposed it would be good to protect my cameras on my phone lol
Still a better adventure than most people have on their GS's for a fraction of the price lol. Missed your message but wasn't also wasn't sure if you were in the area? Had to work too. Sometime it will work out. You ever watch C90 Adventures? You kinda remind me of him... In that you both like to torture yourself lmao.
@@namewitheld lmao hell ya. He is seriously an inspiration to try something stupid sometime lol. Half the reason I got a TW. Other than Fellas like Dual Dorks and TdubKid
D, glad that you're both back in action, and that it was only something simple! If you're headed towards Canada, then you're closer to me now, then ever.. Punch in "del Lago Resort & Casino" for an idea of where I'm at - If you think you'll be rolling back this direction! Have Fun, Ride Safe, And Better Luck from here on out!
Interesting video. Bad luck had nothing to do with it. You abused a bike that was meant to be ridden on asphalt or very smooth dirt roads, and not on rough rocky roads. Your Ruckus would have taken you the 570 miles that you set out to do, if you only had kept it on smooth roads. But, let's look at the positive side, your video teaches others not to do what you did. Good and bad experiences is what life is all about. As long as we learn from them!
I honestly wanna try it again but just avoid that last dirt segment and continue straight to Ellensburg. I did that route before on a bigger scooter years ago. It's not to bad north of Ellensburg. I did learn a lot about the Ruckus during and after this trip for sure. I had fun though overall so I'll take that as a win lol
I was going to make the trip from CT to ME but unfortunately CT won’t register my ruck because anything under 49cc doesn’t need to and they won’t in the state of CT 🥹
@@dualdorks yeah it sucks…. BUT!!! Im moving up to Maine in 2 weeks 🤷♂️ I’ll just register it then and then I’ll drive it from Maine to Connecticut >:D MWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I was excited to see this video! Sorry it left you stranded but makes for a good video

Bummer about the break down. Always enjoy the vids anyway! Be well
I never would have even thought about checking the valves before leaving on a trip like that. Pretty amazing video otherwise.

Also what app is that for the navigation?
Nvm I just saw the brand name when you took your phone off the mount LOL
Did you lose your glasses? I saw them bouncing on your brake cable when you left camp.
No I got them. I am the worst with nice things lol. They survived the trip then the dogs back at my house chewed them up lol
My ‘06 Ruck keeps doing that… I had to shave a 1.2 down to less than 1mm to make it run good again. Not sure why.
@reggiepaulk I bought this Ruckus without knowing anything about scooters or the Ruckus in general but I did learn a whole lot about it quick lol
I was wondering how you were doing. Sorry it didn’t work out.

Early September I did this
@@dualdorks ah not this time. Buf the possibility is still there if you go again
Valiant attempt on a scooter. I hoped “Honda Reliability“ would have been better.
time to finish up the bdr on the ruck?
@brianesquivel6516 ran out of vacation. Maybe next year
Change your bike name to "Speciel Steve" hahaha

Do it on a tw200, you will be guaranteed to make it.
All that truck and barely enough bed to fit a Ruckus :V
For real lmao. I was thinking the same thing when I loaded it up. My kei truck has a 6ft bed and can fit two Yamaha TW200's in it with the gate up lol
Wish i could find people to do dumb shit like this with.
@RedSageGames the battle I face everyday
Does that have a carburetor
Yes
