You’ve explained how to do the chainless double crochet foundation in the best way. I finally understand how to do it! Thank you - you’re a Crochet Goddess!
Thank You! I agree with the other comments! This was by far the BEST demonstration of a chainless double crochet foundation. I also like the way you join yarns and weaved in the back loop! Great tutorial!
The Secret Yarnery I am from Ontario. About an hour north of Toronto. Do you ever go back home? I haven’t been to Saskatchewan but it is on my list. You mentioned that you lived in BC as well. I love BC!
Love the way you explain the process as you go. Visual and reinforced audio makes it easier to understand. Was a little apprehensive about trying at first. Thanks for being a fabulous teacher😍

I love how you do the foundation chain. I hate all the chains but your way is best and it doesnt get all twisted. I cant wait to get more yarn and start this. Thanks for making it;
So pretty! I love using the chainless stitches at the beginning. Saves a whole step of chain stitch & going back to make the 1st row. Plus it looks better 😁
Oh Rachel! Thank you so very much! How kind of you! Are you going to make a Ruana Poncho? I hope so! Post pics on our Facebook group if you do! Would love to see it. Chat soon, Christa. xx!
Thank you for sharing this format. I use to hold my yarn just like you, then I ran across the thin yarn via ebay. My yarn hold no longer worked for the very thin yarn. That is when I stopped crocheting for a while because my fingers began to hurt. But that was not the only reason why my fingers hurt. Age was catching up to me. In the meantime I decided to take up knitting, I had to learn how to hold the yarn again in order to knit. My yarn hold has taken on a life of it's own and I no longer feel comfortable holding the yarn as I use to. I miss that hold. I love this pattern and i will tackle it as soon as I find colors and yarn that I like. I would guess about 2 - 3 pounds of yarn 4ply. There should be left over yarn enough for a hat.
Hi!! Yes - it is the same pattern - just used a yarn that was easily available for most people. The yarn I have to make my second one is here: bit.ly/32xBoIU Hope that helps! 🌻🌺🌼
Perfect idea for making an Easter poncho for my grands!!! I am outta the shoulder brace most of the time while sitting so I am ready to start hooking again!!!
I love the grey one but can see from the others how versatile this pattern can be, which is great. I'm new to foundation sc/dc and found that they do tend to be much looser than chain+row. I will have to check with my own style, which is somehow un-even tension, but I think that a smaller hook for the foundation would help me keep that row in step with the rest of the work (with a bigger hook) because it tends to be loose. It feels slower, the foundation, but does help keep away chain issues :)

Beautiful especially your long grey one! Or if this would change row pattern do one more row in the
I thought the same! But no - you can't. The half row you just finished is where you end the neck. So if you Chainless Foundation, you have half a row flopping around, and then an empty row down your back. But using a bigger hook for the chain really does seem to to fix everything. You can't tell. ;)

This is a lovely simple pattern!. I am a new beginner and have a couple of questions. Would this pattern work out with a tighter weave? I live in an area where winters are cold and was looking for something more blanket like.
Could I make two long panels using the chainless foundation to start each then make a third short pane for the center back sewing them all together at the end? Would that work or would it make it look weird?
You put three rows in for child neck. Would you do more rows for an adult? Or is it the same regardless?
With a tighter weave, could a border be added?
Any thoughts, hints, tips, or tricks are so helpful. I love your videos. You make learning so much easier!
Hi, Sandi Smith!! Yes - you can use a smaller hook for a tighter weave. Try 80 or 90? Depends how big he is. You want it past his waist, but not mid thigh. ;)
I'm am just not getting the chain thing. I'm trying not to get discouraged and give up. But omg I have been trying for a while doing some ripping them out trying again. I'm about to just make a chain.
Denise Contreras - just make a chain Denise! Use a hook about 2 sizes bigger. It will still turn out beautifully! I hated this technique for a good year before it started to make sense in my head: would try to do it - twice - and then give up and chain instead! You're not alone!
The Secret Yarnery great I was thinking it was just me. I will do the chain then a row of dc right
Denise Contreras - Exactly right! Foundation chain and then double crochet into it. Xx!!

Christa, I was raised in the 60s ,70s , as a child I wore a 'Poncho' to school. It was a garment that I pulled over my head and was all 1 piece.
What you are making is a shawl which is draped over your shoulders. I don't mean to be cruel, I just thought you and others needed to be corrected on your apparel¡
A "Ruana" is correct in this instance. If you Google it, you'll see the regional usage of the term and the variations. 👍
