- HI ALL, BACK THIS TIME WITH A MODEL RESTORATION I DID BACK IN NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR, IF I REMEMBER RIGHTLY I HAD A BIT OF TROUBLE WITH THE PAINT AND MASKING TAPE LOL BUT WE GOT THERE EVENTUALLY! I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS ONE AND IF YOU DO PLEASE COME BACK AGAIN FOR ANOTHER VIDEO IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS TIME.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND SEE YOU ALL SOON,
BEST WISHES,
CRAPAUD NICK.
Very nice Nick, that masking tape can be a blessing or a curse just like super glue, sticks to your skin better than what you are trying to glue together.🤠🤠🤠
Thank you Wally, I know exactly what you mean, especially with the super glue lol, it’s happened many times🤦🏻♂🤔😉 All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
Excellent restoration
Thank you Peter👍😊🐸🐸🐸
Beautiful restoration nick excellent work well done 👍.
Thank you Adrian 👍😊🐸🐸🐸
What a lovely model Nick a great job done mate you have the patience of a saint when you do your restorations it must be frustrating when you have the paint pull with the tape although you wouldn't know now with the finish article, another nice model for your cabinet, look forward to the next video
Thank you Paul, I’m kind of getting used to having paint coming off with the tape lol, I used to get in a bit of a flap when that would happen, now I put the model down and look at it for a bit and try to think of a way to rectify it without a total strip down again, 90% of the time you can find a way👍😊 All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
Another beautiful restoration Nick, it really does look well. Hard luck that you had to spray the yellow again but it was well worth it for the result. Looking forward to your next video. All the best. Peter.
PS. The date at the end of your video, when the John Deere comes up, needs changing to 2025. 🤣
Thank you Peter, yes it was a pain with the paint coming off with the tape again but I’m getting used to that now lol. Yes the date has been changed now for this years videos, this was a video that I had done in November hence 2024 at the end, once it had been saved it couldn’t be edited again🤦🏻♂😁 All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
Nice one nick masking was a bit tricky done it well all the best steve
Thank you Steve, a couple of hiccups but we got there in the end 👍😊 All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸

Excellent job, Nick! I really like the new colours (green and yellow were our school colours--such a long time ago LOL).
Thank you, I hope it didn’t bring back any bad memories of you school days lol😉😁 All the best Nick🐸🐸🐸
Great job 👍👍
Thank you👍😊🐸🐸🐸
You made that model look real good I like two tone it really looks good
Thank you Rick👍😊🐸🐸🐸
Turned out really smart nick ,its a good colour combo, masking flipping fiddly job ,all the best Martin
Thank you Martin👍😊All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
I did one a while ago and in black, though. But the model had a a dark grey floor that was largely untouched, so I kept it as it was. Nice model to do, and good scope for detailing, even leaving the chassis slightly detailed in its original state. I enjoyed doing mine, Nick, but not as much as watching you doing yours! Great job, as usual! especially with the brave two-colour livery: I was certain that was Hong Kong colours but cannot find a corroboration! Lucky with the late masking removal, though. Sweet result!
Thank you Fraser, I have got a couple more of these that I want to do, I want to do one in black like you did as there is one of those over here in Jersey in the Steam Museum, it was a guy that used to own and drive it when it was a taxi in London and he retired to Jersey bringing it with him, he then kept it at the museum as he used to help out there but sadly he died about 10 years ago and it has remained in the museum ever since, it is in lovely original condition. Not sure where Dinky got that two tone colour from, probably just made it up!
All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
@@crapaudnicksdiecastrenovat1739 I have a sneaking suspicion that the Green and Yellow was either HK or Gibraltar colours, but I could not be sure... I enjoyed doing the black one, and it features in a mini-dio entitled 'The Taxi Driver's Dilemma' complete with the simultaneous hailing by a dolly bird and a well-dressed older woman with lots of shopping...
Lovely job mate 👍🇬🇧
Thank you👍😊🐸🐸🐸
Very nice job Nick. Great save after the paint came off, just how annoying is that when it happens? 🤬 Jewelled headlamps FTW!
Thank you Richard, I think that’s a part of a restoration that I get the most nervous when doing and that sinking feeling you get as the paint peels off lol😓🥴 I just can’t resist jeweled headlamps lol although these stick on ones have a tendency to move around a bit once in place! All the best Nick🐸🐸🐸
Very nice restoration nick ive done a couple of these your cabinet must be filling up now any chance of a tour of it to show the collection
Thank you, yes it’s starting to fill up quite fast now, I will video it and show it at the end of the month with my purchases, that will be the next video👍😊🐸🐸🐸
fantastic Nick
Thank you😊👍🐸🐸🐸
Very nice fantastic job the colour do pop looks better than the plane black . I had a look on eBay and they are not cheap in that colour will you make a box for it 👍👌
Ralph
Thank you Ralph, I probably will make a box for it, I need to sit down and make a batch of boxes for the different models I haven’t done a box for yet, but my printer is getting a bit tired now and it struggles with the card I use. All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸🐸
I don't know if I should mention this after all the trouble you have taken to get the masking just right. I was given one of these when I was a nipper. I never liked it as much as my other Dinkies because of the stupid yellow and green (or was it just yellow on mine?) colouring. All taxis are black - everyone knows that - why would anyone ever make them in silly bright colours? I have to say that my opinion has not changed in the last 70 years. . . . However I take my hat off to your superb workmanship.
Thank you David, I was going to do this one black at first then I thought to do it in the yellow and green as Dinky had done one in these colours, not sure if it was based on any real taxi colours or just dinky making it up, also I thought it would make the video more interesting or should I say entertaining, it did that alright with the paint peeling off with the tape lol. I have a couple more of these Austin taxis to do so the next one will definitely be finished in black👍😊 All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸🐸
What a beautiful restoration Sir. I was born in 1954 and remember when I was about 6 or 7 years old these were still being used in Edinburgh. There were literally hundreds of them in rows outside the Waverley Train Station mixed in with the newer follow-up Austin model. The one my mum and I used was the old model and they were in black or maroon we used the old maroon one, and it was a stunning old car. I remember the quality of the door closing it wasn’t a clunk but more of a solid thunk. Anyway enough from the, and thanks for the nostalgia trip with a lovely restoration on a stunning old car when cars were properly made.
Good job ma luv. With regard to using screws vs rivets, provided the screw metal is not too hard, could you not gently drill out the screw heads to resemble rivets ?
Thank you, good Idea drilling into the screw heads to make them look like rivets, I never thought of that, cheers for that👍😊 All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
Very annoying when tape pulls paint off for no good reason
You get that sinking feeling in your stomach lol, that’s one part of the restoration that I’m not so keen on, pulling off the masking tape, tense time lol. All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
