The actor that is supposed to play Klaus had not been cast yet when this episode was made so they had Matt Davis play Klaus. Paul Wesley knew Joseph Morgan and suggested him for the role of Klaus. Joseph was perfect for that role.
I'm pretty sure I've read that Joseph Morgan helped out Matt Davis with the role which clearly suggests he was already cast but probably wasn't able to film yet
"I will always choose you," is one of the most iconic delena scenes of all time. the truth will always be that damon will save her life no matter what the cost. the lengths he will go to protect the woman he loves is admirable.
They dragged the fake-out for so long that I had lost hope! I assume it was both Damon and Bonnie (who are called Bamon btw 😉) who thought of the plan. And while Damon is right that he gets things done and will be the one to keep Elena alive, him saying that he would gladly let one of Elena's best friends die is not the flex he think it is (at least not for me). Matt Davis doesn't get enough credit for his acting as Klaus in Alaric's body. But as you mentioned, a potential plot hole is that Klaus is still able to compel people AND vampires but he wasn't bound by other things that would usually affect any vampire, such as being invited in. Makes me wonder if the mechanism by which compulsion works is by some witch magic method. Either way though, fast healing and, more importantly, being invited in are also products of magic. It doesn't make sense Klaus was able to retain his ability to compel without needing to be invited in homes. And no, a vampire doesn't need an invitation to leave a house. Anyway, another plot hole? Elena gets embarrassed when she calls Alaric 'Ric' in class, even though back in S1 when he introduced himself to the class, he told them to call him Ric.
Hunh… I’m trying to remember if I ever noticed Klaus’ line about preferring the ‘20s before. Welcome to really meeting Klaus. He really is all about doing the most. And he’s a smug little jerk. Bamon is a great dynamic from here on out (whether it’s as a ship or other), but Beremy really is so sweet in this episode (I laughed a bit at your insistence that Jeremy put the dang ring back on immediately). Also, YES to your instant acknowledgment that Elena would try to do the same for Bonnie (has, in fact, by not trying to run from Klaus) and that Bonnie would likewise be resistant- Bonnie and Elena will sacrifice all of themselves for the other if given the opportunity. Good reading on the fakeout- like you all noticed, they really stretched the viewers’ faith that things could work out. Fair warning, the product placement doesn’t ever fully go away. Damon’s line about making hard choices as long as she’ll be alive is one of the more defining things separating the brothers (each is right some of the time)- and Stefan is making a hard choice there (it’s just one Damon doesn’t see as making a choice- he thinks Stefan is leaving the choice-making to Elena rather than making a choice in supporting her decisions). So instead we get Elena making a different decision entirely, and getting Elijah back up. The attention to “hey why can Klaus both compel and enter uninvited” is pretty astute- I don’t know that they ever answer that, but they do answer what will happen with Elijah being re-alived where he wasn’t invited (which not everyone can tell, on first watch, might cause issue).
@@ShiningLightI prefer Delena to Bamon, but Damon also said “let’s go straight for (killing) Elena” back in the first episodes. This episode still had significant moments for Bamon and he is visibly upset at Bonnie’s dead body. Do I believe he would readily sacrifice Bonnie if it’s the only way? Yes. But he still thought it worth exploring other ways and just because he says “gladly” doesn’t mean he meant that. He’s king of the machismo oversell to try and convince others that his convictions are steadier than they are (him saying to “Ric” that Klaus wasn’t that impressive).
It's so weird how the Delena shippers are proud of that line of letting one of Elena best friend die over her is romantic...... but I already peeped y'all ....
Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that in one of the first history lessons Stefan remembered the dates of all the events perfectly, while Klaus doesn't even remember the decades?
Well , Klaus has been around for a 1000 years. Whereas Stefan's been around just a century and a half. Definitely easier for Stef, I would suppose. Less stuff to remember.
Plus the fact that Stef's gone to high school a million times (Lexie 's words ).😂 He can probably answer all this basic stuff even when in a coma , Im sure 😂

Nina D. (Elena) and Ian S. (Damon) are together in real life while filming this episode. I think it helps with their chemistry.
damon was so smart to come up with the plan to make Klaus think Bonnie "died." damon is the true hero and mvp of this episode.
I think as a rule Damon is very smart. But his best plans are on-the-fly.
Me and my husband have "I will always choose you" tattoos 🥰
Yeeeessss such an awesome episode!!!!! And sooo close to the end of season 2 which will blow your minds 🤯
13:38 😭Alarics performance here was so good, the dialogue, the quirkiness, it screams Klaus hey
Bonnie committed a QUITALITY.😂😂
Good job Blake on calling the fake out 👏🏻
damon line will definitely come back in the future 😂
And it begins.
I just love the way Damon is able to make Elena happy when she was feeling stressed out at the dance.
Elena sucks

Those are continuity errors, not plot holes.
@@HeyywoodJablowme To me it's both honestly

and the start of my Bamon heart
"I would gladly let Bonnie die, I will always. Choose. You." was in this episode.
