When I listen to it, I feel.... a history of a boy who become a man... It`s really come forward to my mind... Great interpretation!! cheers. .....thanks
Oh......my......crap!!!!!! I cannot process this at all!!! Victor's solo was Heaven...Steve's solo was Heaven....but I love at the end when you can literally see Heaven from 7:32 until the end is just.....I have no words for it. You can just picture as the song comes to an end that you are at peace. I just love how Victor starts it off and then Steve follows him with like a call and response thing going on. It brought a tear to my eye because it was just so peaceful man. One Love and God bless!
Really amazing song, got stuck in my head and made for one of the most enjoyable night shifts I've ever worked lol! Everyone in this performance (including the drummer) are really talented musicians :)
This is from "Bass Extremes: Live", a CD/tablature book combo and DVD from 1994. Victor and Steve do commentary and show their techniques after the songs. (If you search hard, you can find snippets of this vid on your favorite filesharing program...) According to the commentary, Bailey is using harmonics, sounding them with the index finger on his right hand. He prefers this to Jaco's technique to use his thumb to sound the harmonic. the note bends are just slides.
@x1te Yeah. It sounds like that Machine Gun song off the "Band of Gypsies" album. Love that album, and this video. Pretty amazing. I honestly had the thought "Steve Bailey is screwed! How can he follow that solo 4:00?! There's nothing he can possibly do to match or do better then Vic W's solo." (Vic W is what those of us who are hhis close friends call him.) Wow.... so, that's how he can follow Victor's solo. Simply amazing.
the accuracy of those artificial harmonics amazes me every time. yes i can hit them but not at that speed with that degree of accuracy extreme respect of steve over here ^^
to all the people saying that victor beat bailey in this one, it was never a competition. these are just different parts showing tribute to some of stanley clarkes key techniques. both are incredibly talented, and i agree victor is amazing lol hes my hero, but dont discredit bailey, he has incredible talent and is one of my all time favorite bassists. in this case victor does have a more exciting part but without of bailey it wouldnt sound full and complete. :)
Bailey actually played bass on GnR Appetite for destruction.I know a guy who was there and he said Bailey was kinda pissed that he had to play with a pick on fretted 4 or something. He is so pro that it saved time and $ having him play instead of the dude in the band who wrote the songs! These 2 are scary!
@heptabyte Technically, Victor is superior, but Jaco came at a time when nobody was doing what he was. He revolutionized the bass guitar, and paved the way for people like Victor. Still, I agree that Victor might be the best ever.
In my opinion, Victor Wooten is the greatest of all time...
I'm sorry, but Victor is on another level. Outstanding
When I listen to it, I feel.... a history of a boy who become a man... It`s really come forward to my mind... Great interpretation!! cheers. .....thanks
I think bailey's harmonics are unmatched. Those 2 make a great team, they play on a whole different level.
so much I've learned, so much to learn. One of the most beautiful rules of life, you're never the best at anything.

Haha! I love this! Salutation to Victor and Steve! They are like a couple of Lead and Rtythm guitarits.
I love Victor's playing,so untense and passionate.
Thanks! I only know that from reading Jaco's biography (by Bill Milkowski I think, really good) and from seeing interviews with Vic.
Simplemente ESPECTACULAR!!
Ten bieber's fans don't like this masterpiece
This is dedicated to Stanley Clarke, god of bass....
this is awesome
This is GROOVE
Similar to Stanley Clarke... Well the two of them play Song called "Stan the man". I hope I made a point.
I love 5:00-6:40 where they do this harmonious dueling back and forth, that is awesome
Nicely put man.
Simply awesome.
This song is too good.
Bailey's bassline is godlike!
O MY GOD! THERE FREAKING BASS GODS!
Es increible, no puedo creer el sentimiento que tiene Victor para tocar! y el solo es de otro planeta

He quoted Buddy Miles' 'Them Changes'
Buddy played the drums with jimi at the time, it's also buddy singing on that one.

Bass Extremes !!! Really good... The better bass duo!!

i can confirm this, tenor tuning you just get rid of your E and move everything down, then put the C on the top ^^
GREAT!!!
The intro of the song is so fucking the best thing in the world

Damn straight.
there is a book about victor and steve.
it's called bass extremes, there are the chords and basslines (obviously) ;-)
SOMEONE NEED to download victor wooten and steve baileys version of portrait of tracy
so relaxing..
2:17 - 2:21 best lick ive EVER heard
Amazing work by 2 of the greatest; not about competition, though. If you can play 20 seconds of EITHER part, go ahead and criticize!
HAHAHA DAMN YOU!
Now whenever i see Victor i laugh!
this is crazy.. holy crap
I like Wooten's feeling...
I wish I could play a fretless bass...
Aria Pro II Steve Bailey signature model. Best Arias ever.
@heptabyte Technically, Victor is superior, but Jaco came at a time when nobody was doing what he was. He revolutionized the bass guitar, and paved the way for people like Victor. Still, I agree that Victor might be the best ever.
these two guys are joined at the hip
3:19 - 4:19 gives me the chills! (Insert Owen Wilson's wow here)
esses caras são de ++++!!!!
@Skidhblanir Yes. It says in the book that it was written as a tribute to Stanley Clarke who they both admire.
