I think Patricia Arquette should have gotten an Oscar for her performance. Also the music, the Cancun music, is a kind of foreshadowing that encompasses not just romance as happy, but romance as a struggle so it sometimes plays even in the darker scenes. I like how Zimmer did that.

    Thank you so much Cristy!!
    Thanks for the shoutouts too.
This was such a pleasure to watch.
You’ve just been introduced to so many iconic actors all in one sitting.
The lead actor Christian Slater was a very hot young heartthrob actor in the late 80s and early 90s.
And he killed it in this.
The actor who played the pimp Drexel was Gary Oldman.
He is the favorite actor of many movie fanatics.
The role he played in this movie was so off the wall and unlike anything else he had ever done.
It’s almost a shame you weren’t familiar with him before because most who watch this movie for the first time are shocked when they see Gary Oldman in this movie and the character he plays.
Gary Oldman is a very respected British thespian actor.
The actor who played Clarence’s dad is Dennis Hopper.
He’s been acting in movies since the 60s. He appeared in a western with John Wayne. Hopper is an icon who’s known for playing intense characters.
A very iconic role and performance of his I’m recommending
    “Blue Velvet” (1986)
And of course I knew you’d get a kick out of seeing young James Gandolfini.
As far as the music, the music for this film has become iconic.
And the light whimsical melody playing over heavy scenes turns the whole story into a fairy tale.
Why the two lovers get away, have a boy, and live happily ever after.
Director Tony Scott’s sensibilities are all over this movie. The eccentric characters, the bad guys in this movie are like vicious, brutal monsters, the wardrobe, the colors and lighting.
All these elements turn this gritty crime story into a fairy tale of romance.
The visuals, the music, the tone are all Tony Scott.
The Tarantino elements are there in the dialogue, particularly the scene with Walken and Hopper (Clarence’s dad) is very much Tarantino.
And the Mexican standoff at the end is a staple of Tarantino movies as well.
And there’s another movie related to this one.
    Also written by Quentin Tarantino.
    Directed by Oliver Stone.
This script was rewritten though by other writers and the director Oliver Stone himself though.
    “Natural Born Killers” (1994)
So an earlier draft of the script had Clarence writing a screenplay based on his and Alabama’s exploits except making it all crazy and exaggerated.
Well this element of the script was taken out of True Romance and actually developed as a script on its own.
    And that script is
    “Natural Born Killers”
    Directed by Oliver Stone.
This is a MUST SEE film!!!

This is as close to a perfect movie as you can get for my money. So much fun. Tony Scott, the director, was kind of known for that (Man on Fire, Domino, and The Last Boy Scout are a few of my personal favorites). There are times when I felt like they could've done more with the characters, but it's such an ambitious story with so much going on that it's easy to forgive. And after a few more Tarantino movies, you will DEFINITELY start to see his mark on things. I can't really explain it, but he just has this really off-beat way of dealing with the old unavoidable storytelling cliches. It doesn't always land, if I'm being perfectly honest, but it comes pretty close. And it's always creative.

This movie has a collection of great individual scenes by great actors. Gary Oldman's scenes were wild and he's always great. Walken and Hopper in the trailer. Gandolfini and Arquette in the motel room and the over the top shoot out at the end. Even though Slater is the main star and you're rooting for him, the supporting characters steal the show and make the movie great. JMHO.

I'll be truly impressed if she recognizes Val Kilmer the first time viewing this! The ending in Mexico finally pulls Hans Zimmer's score together. Read the credits and try to figure Val Kilmer's role.

People aren’t nearly as into Elvis as much they used to be, which is understandable. This movie is 30 years old. When it came out, Elvis had only been dead 16 years. That would be like 2007 in today’s years. Lol

Love how QTs writing always has so much happening, but he let's you meet and learn so much about each character, that you can follow the story and root for them.

Really enjoyed your reaction! Just one of the many great movies that reactors are too busy watching the same crowd pleasers, to discover & enjoy.
Two wounded birds can actually be a very good, strong relationship.
No, smoking in a theatre was never & will never be allowed. Alabama was just being little miss edgy, but then they weren't sitting very close to others in the theatre anyway.
Seeing as how you seem to be open to movies that are more off the beaten path, here are some that I'd love to see catch on in the great Reactorverse:
    What's Up, Doc? (1972) (comedy)
    Magnolia (1999) (drama)
    Being John Malkovich (1999) (fantasy/dramady)
    Adaptation (2002) (dramady/romance)
These are all fantastic movies, so pleeezz consider them!
    Namaste! 🙏🏻

The music/score/soundtrack grows on you as the movie goes, and if you watch it again, you'll love it. There's no other music that fits the story of this type of 'True Romance!' Throughout the whole film!
And you would recognize the QT dialog if Tony Scott edited it, the way it was wrote. But it's still a great film!

I finally get all caught up on your channel after binging it for two weeks and you immediately watch one of my all-time favorite movies! This was a dream cast with so many of them having very small roles or even only one scene! Did you watch the credits to realize Val Kilmer was Elvis? I think Tarantino's writing style is all over this with the great dialog filled with pop culture references. You should read a bit about the making of the film, it would've been very different if Tarantino had directed it.
Now back to our regular programing: when do you upload your MCU reactions? Now that I'm all caught up I'm wondering what the schedule is.

Hi and welcome aboard! I had no idea Val Kilmer was Elvis!
As far as the schedule, it's actually a bit funky right now because I am in the middle of moving and also transitioning to a new editing/recording workflow soooo... you can expect a new MCU video this week, but I need to sit down and actually work out a new schedule for videos once I've got myself situated. Playing it kind of loosey goosey during this transitional period!
Hit the notification bell so you can be notified when the videos are up so you won't miss one :)
