I've seen other Sopranos reactors doing Goodfellas...everybody recognizes Christopher, but best I can recall you're the first to tie him specifically to the Season 1 episode where he shoots the clerk in the foot.
Another vote for Casino. Also directed by Scorsese, also based on a book by Nicholas Pileggi, also based on a true story, also features a lot of cast members from Goodfellas, also an EXCELLENT movie.
42:52 The guy in the scene talking to Henry and Karen is playing himself. He was the actual federal agent who got the real Henry Hill into witness protection.
Paulie wasn’t actually a “Boss”. He was a Capo Regime (Captain), which basically meant he was in charge of a crew. He was part of the Lucchese crime family and the Boss was a guy named Vic Amuso. But Jimmy, Henry, and Tommy were part of Paulie’s crew which meant they kicked up to him and had to listen to what he told them to do.
Yes, that scene from the Sopranos with Christopher shooting the clerk in the foot was an homage to Goodfellas. When Christopher is leaving the pastry shop, the guy who he shot cries "you shot me in the foot". Christopher replies, "It happens!" CLASSIC!
This was definitely one of the better reactions to Goodfellas. Nicely done and pretty sure Christy would have been wacking people as fast as Jimmy after Lufthansa. 😂
Henry has a daughter and she wrote a book, her perspective of growing up with Henry's mafia lifestyle, it's actually a fun read, "on the run, a mafia childhood"
Henry hill was pos and a terrible father to his children. And would occasionally beat on his wife Karen, who was also having an affair with Paul vario, his boss when he was in prison.
Joe Pesci's character's Tommy DeVito is based on Tomas DeSimone who was around 6"3" and 220 pounds. Pesci's DeVito was more "dark" comic relief where as DeSimone was a true psychopath and scared pretty much all of the other gangsters. He disappeared when he was 28 after killing at least 7 people.
No incorrect, he was born on June 6, 1946 and would have been in his early 30s when he was killed. He was reported missing by his wife who had last seen him borrowing $60 from her. Crazy right.
Fun fact: The lady who played the roll of Tommy’s mom is actually Martin Scorsese’s real mother. And Henry’s old cellmate with the big glasses that was putting too many onions in the sauce is Scorsese’s real father. One of his first films is called “Italian American” and it’s basically him interviewing his parents in their home and talking about Italian American culture in New York. A lot of funny stories. It’s a fun movie to watch. Mama Scorsese is hilarious. You can tell she was the life of the party.
The am I funny scene was inspired by real life. Happened to Pesci when he was younger. Told a real mobster he was funny and the guy reacted like you saw in this flick.
The Sopranos creator David Chase originally wanted Robert De Niro or Ray Liotta to play Tony Soprano and Lorraine Bracco to play Carmella..both De Niro and Ray Liotta turned it down because they weren't interested in doing Television series at the time since drama shows weren't really big at the time. Lorraine didn't want to play Carmella because she claimed that she's done that role before in Goodfellas but was convinced to play the Psychiatrist . Loved your reaction and really hope you get to these highly recommended Mob films... "Casino" (1995) directed by Scorsese/reuniting De Niro and Joe Pesci with Sharon Stone. "A Bronx Tale" (1993) directed by Robert De Niro, starring De Niro and Chazz Palminteri "Scarface" (1983) directed by Brian De Palma, starring Al Pacino, Michelle Pheifer "Donnie Brasco" (1996) starring Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, Michael Madsen
Millers Crossing is another great mob film. It came out the same year as Goodfellas and was a smaller film directed by at the time, the less well known Coen Brothers.
That opening scene was the perfect choice to open this film. When Tommy says “ look at my eyes “ as he’s stabbing him to death was dark and as close to the real Tommy as you’ll see in any mafia doc.And you mentioned the glamourizing scenes but like all Scorcese mob films, he shows the darker side and how in the end it all goes sideways and people die, turn on each other and it’s not so glamorous after all.
38:27 This is what Googling told me, I didn't personally know the reason either: "Warner Brothers did not receive permission to use the airline's logo in the film. It was an American Airlines ticket and the company did not want to be affiliated with the illegal operation depicted in the movie (drug trafficking)."
Honestly don't know how no one told you/insisted you watch this BEFORE starting The Sopranos, lol, but here we are. Kinda surreal watchalong with ya catching all the cast. Bravo! You should try Brando in 1990's The Freshman. A sorta meta light-comedy flick, if ya want something to sit back to and enjoy, and not have to work on posting.
I saw an interview with Ray Liotta years ago where he said he never even got in a fight growing up which people found hard to believe considering the characters he's played.
I don't think the mob would have messed with his dad. They would look at it more like "If you don't want to catch a beating from your dad, you don't get caught."
Karens mom is Carmela Sopranos mom, Billy Batts is Phil Leotardo in Sopranos, Spider is Christopher Motisanti, and many more. 21:24 This little girl is Lorraine Bracco (Melfis) real life daughter with actor Harvey Keitel. Her name is Stella Keitel. Most of these movies and shows recycled the same 15/20 actors from the 80s thru the early 2000s. However, Goodfellas is my favorite movie of all time.
RIP Ray Liotta 😢. Did you notice the owner of the restaurant that gets hit is a captain in the Soprano's,and the drug dealer in the motel is the guy run over in Soprano's
I remember watching this amazing movie when it first came out and I was around 18, and it blew me away. The old Animaniacs cartoon has 3 pigeon (bird) characters that are literally copies of Henry, Tommy, and Jimmy. They even have the "funny how?" bit used in many episodes. Every second of Goodfellas is a work of art! I've watched it many many times. It's so "good"
When Michael Imperioli shoots the pastry clerk in the foot on the Sopranos the guy starts yelling about it. Christopher looks back at the guy on the way out the door and says "It happens".
I'm surprised she missed Paulie in the "Hey, you broke your cherry" scene Carmela's mom in the "My daughter says you're half Jewish" scene Beansie Gaeta when Henry and Karen are seeing helicopters The bar owner who asks Paulie to help him out is a Soprano family ally named Larry Barese Billy Batts was Phil Leotardo I can't remember another one now, who else did she miss?

As Henry stated that in order to be made as a member of any family, man has to be Italian/Sicilian Heritage both parents can be traced to their homeland of Italy and Sicily. Plus, ritual of being made is sacred and secret according to some members.

In the 90's Animanics did a spoof on this movie called "Goodfeathers" complete with the Godfather pigeon. Absolutely hilarious. This is one movie that makes My Cousin Vinny even MORE funny 😂
In the 1st restaraunt scene, Tommy says "The Bank job all the way in Secaucus, I'm in the middle of the fkin weeds laying down." ... Thats where I live, in the weeds, literally lol.
Actual mob members had some screen time in this especially when Henry is walking through the nightclub describing some of the "fellas" and during the "funny how?" scene which Pesci and Liotta improvised a lot of.
Fantastic, fantastic reaction commentary to this movie, you are the perfect reactor for this! Do not miss "Casino" which is practically a sequel to this, it's basically Goodfellas II: The Vegas Years. De Niro, Pesci, Scorsese, Sharon Stone, James Woods, 1995. Also Scorsese and De Niro's first collaboration together, "Mean Streets" (1973), the year before De Niro did Godfather Part 2 and playing a completely different kind of character! I'm sure you've already seen "Raging Bull", right? Pesci's first collaboration with De Niro and Scorsese? That's another must-see, it has some mob overtones. (Lastly, for mob movies: "Donnie Brasco" with Al Pacino and Johnny Depp, another true mob story and the only other mafia movie that approaches Godfather 1 & 2, and Goodfellas & Casino. (After you've seen all those.......then you'll be ready for "The Irishman"! lol.)
The scene walking through the kitchen to the dining area is replicated as a homage in the movie "Swingers", which is a great movie about the 90's swing music craze in LA, with Vince Vaughn and John Favreau. Highly recommend. Thanks for reacting! Classic movie. Half the Sopranos actors appeared in it, it seems.
Swingers is great, of course, and has a connection to The Sopranos, the episode "D-Girl" in season 2, Jon Favreau appears, he and Christopher talk about Swingers.
The scene where they are introducing some of the people at the club, they mention “ Michael Franzese”, who was a mob boss and currently has a very good RUclips channel where he tells stories, interviews interesting people and even talks about the sopranos, check it out!!👍
According to my Sicilian wife, Italians have a historical tradition of married men having a "side piece" or girlfriend known as a Goumad (not sure how to spell that). It wasn't spoken about but it was understood and accepted. The only rule is you can't fall in love with the girlfriend.
Joe Pesci's also in "JFK": Oliver Stone's epic film w: Gary Oldman as Lee Harvey Oswald: Kennedy's sniper, Kevin Costner, John Candy, Dan Akroyd, & many more!
When Hill first went into the program he was sent to Omaha, Nebr. Within a short time he was selling drugs outside the gate to Offutt Airforce Base, which is a little concerning as it's the headquarters of what was then known as the Strategic Air Command, in charge of all the nukes. He got made in Omaha and the family was on its way to another city before sundown. Much later, after he'd been kicked out of Witness Protection, he wound up in North Platte, Nebr. of all places. He was busted there at least a couple of times. I knew a guy there who knew him pretty well. My friend said he was full of bull.
Many former Mafia guys said it didn't matter if you were only half Italian, you could still be a Made-Man. It depended on which of the Five Families you were a part of.
Rumour has it the scene where Christopher shot the kid from the pastry shop in the foot was not meant to happen...Christopher was meant to rough the kid up but said to Chase he wanted to shoot him in the foot like payback from what happened to spider in Goodfellas..."Genius lol", Liotta was asked to play Tony Soprano but recommended Gandolfini "Another rumour", the connection with bit actors from this film and Sopranos is massive as they went on for big major roles in Sopranos...This is my favourite film ever, the Sopranos my favourite series. Great reaction.
Thomas DeSimone (the real life character played by Joe Pesci) was an unhinged psychopath who had no problem murdering women and children. One day, Henry said that they were walking in the street and Tommy had bought a new gun and he shot and killed a random guy in the street just to try it and wasn't the least bothered by this senseless murder. Just like in the movie he killed that waiter who told him to go fuck himself and he killed Billy Batts who told him to go bring his fucking shinebox. Truth is that Tommy's body was never found, he disapeared in 1979 and the accepted theory is that he was whacked by future crime boss of the Gambino familly John Gotti who was a close friend of Billy Batts. Gotti had to get permission from Paulie as Paulie was a capo in the Lucchese familly and Paulie probably gave the go-ahead because Tommy was too much of a liability and the real money was with Jimmy.
I think what's brilliant about this movie is you see it from Henry Hills perspective in the beginning everyone's in shock that they glamorize the mafia and everybody wants to be a part of it but later in the movie you realize how fucking dirty this business is the glam wears off and everyone wants out just like Henry BRILLIANT!
Okay, so now for what happens to Henry Hill after this film ends, watch "My Blue Heaven" starring Steve Martin as Henry Hill, and Rick Moranis as his Parole Officer. This film is a comedy, and was made years before Goodfellas, but it is also based on the life of Henry Hill after he enters the FBI Witness Protection Program.
21:10 That is because that old lady is Scorsese's Mom and all what Marty told her to do was to bring the picture on the table at some point, no script. Martin Scorsese just put his mom in that scene and told actors to improvise. The whole scene is improvisation surrounding Scorcese's mom :). He did the same thing in CASINO afterwards... (After you've seen all those.......then you'll be ready for "The Irishman"! lol.)
Cristy laughed at the same scene I always laugh at too. Jimmy Two Times "I'm going to go get the papers, get the papers".
Other cool organised crime movies include : "Catloto's Way", "A Bronx Tale", and "Casino". All have great soundtracks and fabulous narration.
I'm gonna go get the papers get the papers
The scene where they are introducing some of the people at the club, they mention “ Michael Franzese”, who was a mob boss and currently has a very good RUclips channel where he tells stories, interviews interesting people and even talks about the sopranos, check it out!!👍
Henny Youngman. Before my time, but his signature joke was , "Take my wife,...please!!" It was thing, for a while.
The real Tommy was even a more violent sociopath than depicted in the film and actually 6'2" (or taller, i can't remember).
The audio commentary with the real Henry Hill and the FBI agent who caught him (who also appeared in the movie as himself) is fantastic.
What a treat on a Friday night. Thanks so much for the upload! Now you are obligated to do Casino - you'll enjoy it for sure 😄
According to my Sicilian wife, Italians have a historical tradition of married men having a "side piece" or girlfriend known as a Goumad (not sure how to spell that). It wasn't spoken about but it was understood and accepted. The only rule is you can't fall in love with the girlfriend.
The wife is the long time and the goomah is the fun time lol
Joe Pesci's also in "JFK": Oliver Stone's epic film w: Gary Oldman as Lee Harvey Oswald: Kennedy's sniper, Kevin Costner, John Candy, Dan Akroyd, & many more!
I think you like a Bronx Tale as well. I recommend that one too. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Chris! For requesting Christy react to one of the Best Movies of All Time. God Bless you Brother!
Ok thumbs up for recognizing that was all one shot when they entered the restaurant.
That is what a reaction should be.
He was also a reknown woman beater and would beat his girlfriends. He was surprisingly married in real life, would also beat her and had a daughter.
RIP Catherine Scorsese
Cristy two times, Loyalty and Loyalty
LOL "I mean...he was a little volatile and a little nuts but..."
Lol your random accents crack me up 😂. Goes from sorta ditzy valley girl to "I just got off the boat" at the drop of a hat
Little shoe lifts bobbi deniro always playing ‘tough guy’
