Part of the silly fun of Re4,Re4R, and Village is inventory organization. It is a mini game unto itself. Of course you can use L3, if on PS5, to auto organize.
The bolt thrower isn't very good but there are a few situations where it can be very useful, especially with the mines. I found it was more useful on a second playthrough when I knew what was coming up and had extra knives to spare for bolts.

You probably figured it out in the next episode, but storage is for weapons, weapon parts, and first aid sprays.
I suck at the shooting range too but the charms you can win can be really useful.
