    If you are maining the Saw Cleaver, its best combo is the R1-L1 attacks. That is, Light Attack, followed by a Transform Attack, since transforming your weapon mid combo results in a hit. The Saw Cleaver has some INSANE damage and poise multiplier on its Transform Attack. A lot of bosses will just crumple because of the poise damage of it (that is, go into their visceral attack position).
    Poise damage is in every game since this one, so DS3, Sekiro and Elden Ring. Its like an enemy-exclusive status effect, a bar is filled as you attack, with special attacks increasing it the most, and if it gets full they bend the knee and get opened to a Critical Attack by the player.

    Fantastic job on Ludwig! I admit I used a summon just because I enjoy using them when available. Henriett didn't seem very effective as you mentioned, so I found another summon nearby to use (Valtyr I think) and we did such a great job we both survived the fight - third attempt (first was solo and second with Henriett). I don't care if anyone thinks summoning is casual behaviour, I've also beaten Maria and Orphan solo!

    Yeah the wave attack is dodgeable, but you have to be locked on to him. I think since you were thinking it was the round explosion you were locking off of him, but the right thing would be to lock on and just dodge to the sides two or three times and he always misses

    Great job. Congratulations on beating him. You've really earned it!
    I don't know if others mentioned this already, but Ludwig's remains are still alive. Put on a church outfit and console him for a nice reward. Putting him out of his misery afterwards would also be appropriate, I think.
    And please don't let others scare you about the remaining bosses. They are challenging, but one of them (you already met him) should be much easier for you since you did so well with the Cleric Beast (I didn't, which is why that was my 200+ attempt boss). Maria is an awesome boss which imo is just really fun to fight and well designed. Definitely not the hardest, I think. The last one is harder, but both of them can be parried pretty reliably once you get the timing, so you don't have to dance with them anymore if you don't want to ;)

    If you go back into the room with the automatons (the metal kid-like things that don't attack you), there is an elevator that you missed on your way up to Micolash. The elevator goes down into a pitch black room. The brain of mensis is down there.
    If you use the "make contact" gesture and just hold it, you'll get a new rune. It'll feel like I'm trolling you. You'll just stand there, making an L pose and feeling foolish. Then Jason will switch her stance. Wait. You will get the rune. It takes like a full minute or two. You got the contact stance at the top of upper cathedral ward. There was an immobile statue you interacted with (I'm pretty sure you did, anyway.)

    • @rosstee
      @rosstee Месяц назад

      Hi, I'm at this part of the game right now and found that elevator but it was so black I didn't go far and went back up. Do you have to find the brain in the darkness or just do the gesture anywhere down there? I could search for the info but don't want more spoilers than necessary! Thanks.

    • @progers20
      @progers20 Месяц назад +1

      @rosstee you have to drop the Brain of Mensis, first. There's a lever at the top you have to pull. Once it's dropped, leave the elevator and go straight and to the right. It's not so big down there, so it's not hard to find, but only if you've dropped it first.
      Google how to kill the brain of mensis if you get stuck. Also, make sure to either get gud or take a bunch of sedatives to deal with the frenzy.

  • @FlameHidden
    @FlameHidden Год назад +1

    Last message from me, I swear lol.
    So we know the Nightmare is some sort of curse applied to Hunters, as per the dialogue in entering it. Its where hunters are going when they die, and from item descriptions along the game we knew thay Ludwig was the founder of Church Hunters. A true knight, he used heavy weaponry instead of fast ones to deal with the beasts and fight for Yharnam, maybe without knowing that the blood healing his church was offering was what was claiming the people and turning them. We have indication that he might have even fought on horse. Which is why its so disturbing to see what he was twisted as, maybe even fused with his own horse. His design is also VERY reminiscent of an enemy in the Berserk manga. Berserk is one of the most regarded manga in history and Myiazaki, FROMSOFT's main game director, absolutely loves to reference it all the time. This demonic horse design is, absolutely based on... well... the community calls him... R*pe Horse. Great.
    Look around Ludwig's arena. There is a surprise there that is different if you are or arent using gear related to the Healing Church.
    We also know, from Rom the Vacuous Spider being probably a baby used by Byrgenwerth to seal the Blood Moon, aka Paleblood ("The Byrgenwerth spider hides all manner of rituals, and keeps our lost master from us. A terrible shame. It makes my head shudder uncontrollably.") And because of the Old Workshop (the version of the Workshop in real life, in Yharnam, in that giant pit on the way to the Chapel) that to create these reality-altering things and dimensions, you need to sacrifice a newborn. Its why stuff related to it always gives a Umbilical Chord. There is one in the real Workshop, which was used to create the Hunters Dream, and Iosefka stole the one from Byrgenwerth. As per the description of one of the Caryll Runes, Old Ones are particularly fond of humans and tend to obey their asks and needs when requested, especially in exchange of newborns because "Every Old One loses its child, then yearns for a surrogate". They are a perfected species, which is why Byrgenwerth was so interested, it was interest in their evolution, but by being perfectly evolved they seem to have lost their ability to reproduce, which is a species ability to perfect its genetics. They have reached their pinnacle, and are eternally burdened with it.
    Remains to be seen by you how the Church of Mensis made THEIR Nightmare to call the Blood Moon to Yharnam, which is the entire reason Master Willem even made Rom (to seal it) and NOW THIS DLC has to tell us: Who, and with what child, made the ritual to call forth the Hunter's Nightmare into being. Because if ROM is anything to go by, the baby used in the ritual turns into an Old One.

    I think it would be really helpful to farm blood gems from the Winter Lanterns (brain things on the bridge on the way to getting the blood rock). They legit drop 19% blood gems that can fit in any slot. It's pretty simple, you just have to wear all your best frenzy res gear and do charged R2 attacks with the untransformed saw cleaver. You'll stagger them before they can touch you, and just heal anytime you take frenzy damage. The gems will have a negative stat also - the best ones to aim for are negative damage to kin (you rarely fight kin) or negative stamina.

I was going to mention it in the last video comments section but I watched it a while after it was uploaded and reckoned it would have already have been mention by then. Anyway, you beat him and can finally move on, that's what counts. You can actually find what's left of Ludwig, his head, near the lamp and talk to it. IMPORTANT if you want to farm infinite bloodstone chunks and upgrade all your weapons to +9 no problem, read this before exploring more, or you could miss the chance!!!
    The next Lantern has two Scurrying Beasts (enemy that disappears and always drops upgrade rocks). There is a glitch in the game if you despawn enemies then kill them again you will duplicate their drops infinitely. So here is what you do: clear the way from the ludwig lantern to the next lantern (still to be seen), this includes the two enemies from Ludwig to the elevator plus the Eye-Stealing granny in the bloodriver part. Go on foot to the Next Lantern, its in a newly named area. There will be two scurrying beasts, one by a pillar, another in a pool of water. This is immediately in front of said lanters. Kill them BUT DO NOT PICK UP THE ITEMS, THIS ENDS THE GLITCH.
    Now run back down the elevator and to the Ludwig Lantern. Make sure to climb down the steps completely, then run back to the Scurrying Beasts. They will have despawned when you walked back, and since you didnt pick up the items, the enemy is revived. Kill both of them again. Repeat. Ever time you do this, you will be adding their total 4 chunks by another 4. I did this for my wife for 1h so she could experiment with all weapons, especially the DLC ones. The other upgrade materials are easy to farm. Put on a podcast and try it out! There are videos on it too if you need, look up Blood Chunk dupe glitch
    If you already picked them up, there are Chalice Dungeons around with drops for them, but they take a little longer

  • @timothyfavorite1875
    @timothyfavorite1875 Год назад +1

    Congratulations on finally killing Ludwig.
    One thing to take away from that fight is that what seemed to get you the mose was his big charge attack. Consistently you were running straight back. Rather than trying to time it and dodge sideways. The time you did get him, you ran off to the side and he missed.
    Timing, anticipating enemy attacks, dodging, and knowing how many times you can attack an enemy before they can counter attack will be far more useful than any amount of leveling of items.
    When you did get him in that final sequence, you were dancing through his attacks beautifully, well done 👏

    • @HollyElsa

    NPC summons are, most times, useless because they increase boss health and defense. Unless they can solo them and its thematically/story related and appropriate that they do (Tarkus, maybe Solaire for the final boss in DS1, Lucatiel in DS2 and Anri in DS3) I never use them.

    Congratulations for doing this on your own. You did amazing.
    I think one of the major choke points you were having that I could notice was healing timing. You were always healing whenever you felt you needed to, when it would be best to heal in the place of one attack, exchanging the timing for getting in for timing to heal back up. Most heals you did ended up on you getting attacked more. Everything else was just roll timing really

    I'm currently watching. You're on attempt 25. FYI - beast blood pellets let you do more damage, however; there is a caveat - you have a bar (top middle) that you fill up. As you are able to do more damage - the bad guys are able to do more damage to you, too. If you aren't great at dodging, bbp only really hurt you. If you want to use them, practice your dodging, first.
    Also, be more aggressive. You are almost ALWAYS better off dodging IN to enemy attacks.

    Congrats on beating Ludwig after a long time. Also, no wonder why you were having a hard time, you’re not doing any damage, by this point on the game with gems and leveling up you should be doing around 500 damage and your saw cleaver was not even 300 at the start, also don’t be afraid to level up, the normal is to beat the game around level 100, maybe a bit more. Don’t be afraid of orphan of kos that boss is a one try boss if you take it easy, lady Maria is bit trashy ngl, but overall the main tip I’m gonna give you, upgrade your gems, there’s like 3 gems that gives you 15% plus damage and Ludwig’s holy blade staggers the enemy with each hit
