Being from The Caribbean. I know for a fact. People steal land, all the time. But, The plaintiff is suing, the wrong person. The defendant (literally) had nothing to do with this case. The plaintiff needs to go find the crooked lawyer, he gave the money to.
People stealing land is nothing new to the US as well. In fact, in Maryland and certain other states "landowners can lose ownership of their property through a legal concept called adverse possession. This means that someone else can potentially gain legal title to your land if they meet specific criteria, including occupying it openly, notoriously, exclusively, and continuously for a certain period".
And in Jamaica that's exactly how they say it. When you ask many of them do they mean lawyer. They'll tell you yes but, they say liar. For so long I thought it was the accent.😂😂😂😂
He just needs the right type of representation…. He’s trying to say the defendant is a snake and is in cahoots with the lawyer he referred to him. Big ups to Mobay, Westmoreland and Portland 🇯🇲
I am half Jamaican and these "dreads/locs" are considered "elder dreads/locs" and they are respected in the culture. To me as someone who sports dreads/locs they are authentic expression of himself. I have much respect for him!
In some countries if you rent ur house to someone and they been there for a period of time, they can become the new owners. That's why it's good to have everything in writing and have it notorized by a lawyer.
To clarify, I was addressing how convoluted and off-topic his answers to her were. Not his speech pattern itself. Everything she asked, he started down another road. I was straining to understand what connection his replies to her questions had to the actual questions.
What happens in some Caribbean islands is if a plot of land is left unattended for a number of eg. 12 yrs and someone comes along and occupies it and is taking care of it in a meaningful way then they can apply for a title, become the lawful owner and begin to pay taxes. Because the government would of deemed that land abandoned.
Something that should be allowed here. Too many abandoned properties around here and the property owner refuse to sell then the city takes over and auction it off.
A guy at work asked me if I knew a plumber. I told him I used this guy and would give him his number but that was it. @phyllisneither9097, I say scam too. Sending money to an account, at least the plaintiff received some kind of refund, most people that's been scammed get nothing back
Jamaican here. There are lots of places in Jamaica that do not have addresses. The house I grew up in up in still does not have an address. Residents have to physically go to the post office to get mail. It’s quite common. Especially in rural areas.
@ I am curious. Many places in the United States have an address with PO Box, a number, then city, state and zip code. Does the post office not have something that will differentiate people pickup up the mail. I would imagine the mailing address to that post office will do.
@ for places not having an address, mail is directed to the post office for the region. Mail is picked up by giving your name. In most cases like this, the residents are well known by the postal employees and not even an ID is required in that case. The locals know each other. I found it odd that Judge Milian was acting as though this concept is foreign to her. America has been grappling with squatter’s rights issues for a very long time.
How about banking in Jamaica. Do you not need the person’s name and account number to transfer money? He said he didn’t even know the lawyers name in is original compliant. Wait, plaintiff gave a lawyer $2300.- and at the end of the day it doesn't go well and he gets refunded $1500.- ??? I haven't had to hire a lawyer for too many things in my life but $800.- doesn't get you very far in the legal system. No idea how the plaintiff thinks he's getting ripped off. Depending what the lawyer bills per hour, seems to me he paid for two to four hours of a lawyers time before his case died and he got the balance refunded. That seems very very fair.
OOOOOOF... I have property in the Bahamas... After my mother passed, my father and I flew down to remove her name from the deed and put my name on it... When my father passed, it wasn't difficult to get the deed transferred into solely my name either... And it was rather inexpensive for the lawyer... $500, I think... I kind of feel bad for the Plaintiff... clearly a "barrier" there...
So the he and the wife came .none to say don't do it . This is the kinda guy that makes me say I mind my business. I don't get involved not recommending anything lol.

The answer to that question is YES Judge Milian. If someone pays the past due taxes on property and they can prove they have been living there, they can have the property legally deemed theirs.
I think that the purpose of the lawsuit was to compel him to share the address. The fact that the defendant wouldn't assist someone whom he has known for a while with getting contact information is concerning. I wouldn't do business with him at all after this. Also, I wish that this was a Judge Mathis case because he does his research beforehand. When the plaintiff lost, he would have understood why AND had a clear pathway forward. And the ignorant comments about the man's hair🤦🏽♀️ Go look up Rastafari religion. I'm not using my energy to keep saying the same thing to people whose experience with culture doesn't include grass, fresh air, and real people who they have real conversations. 😑
But he was suing the defendant for the money the lawyer took. If all he wanted was an address, he could have asked for a court order; however, courts do not get involved for litigants for remedies that could have been done without court intervention. The plaintiff could first hire an investigator to find the address but does not have appeared to do so. If the defendant was the last and only way to get an address, then the court could order the defendant to disclose it. The damages clearly are not on the defendant which would make the lawsuit frivolous.
“In his own way” still makes the case frivolous. The plaintiff hired a lawyer. He paid the lawyer directly. He was unhappy with the lawyer’s fees, however he does not have her address to sue her. The problem is none of that is on the defendant. All the defendant did was recommend the lawyer. He is not suing the right person.
